What if?

What if every book you
have ever read was really
just blank, hut filled with
Psychic Paper... and you
were reading only what you
wanted to?
what if the real reason some
people like to boast that they,
Don' t Read' or Tve Never
Read a Book in my life!'
is because they tried, but
only saw blank pages due to
lack of imagination?!

that makes sense if you look at some movie adaptions

The only thing that was just as off key as this movie was the Avatar movie and the Percy Jackson movie.

But the book was also crap.
User avatar #43 to #36 - organiclead (05/13/2013) [-]
Seriously, it was. It was a tale about a Gary Stu getting everything given to him on a silver platter and being told how special he was for being at the right place at the right time on several occasions. It was Twilight for boys.

I'm talking about the first book alone. I didn't get passed it because the first book was crap. We got Eragon, a farmer boy who just happened to find a dragon egg that just happened to be teleported in that location by an elven princess who just happened to have a mentor around to teach him and just happened not to be home when his uncle was killed who then was drug on a journey until his mentor died, then was lead and saved by Murtagh and had pretty much everything done for him by the end of the book. Even the climatic final battle was someone else doing all the work and him getting all of the credit for it. It's Star Wars with dragons.

If you read past the first book you would realize how that stuff happened.
Brom was Eragon's father, staying there to watch over Eragon as he grew up, so that wasn't random
Arya meant to send it the egg to Brom, as he was the only person they could trust with it's safe keeping, but the magic sent it to his son, Eragon, so that wasn't random
Saphira flew Eragon away into the mountains when the Ra'Zac attacked the farm, so that wasn't random
Murtagh was following them long before when Brom died
Not to mention Eragon was all of 16 at the time, so he couldn't exactly be told to do everything, he was still learning, all he knew about was hunting and farming.
The final battle was a teenager going up against one of the most powerful beings on in the story alone and then being saved by an explosion

OH MY, it's star wars with dragons, how long did it take you to figure that out you literary genious? You must be so capable of seeing further into the author's thought process than everyone else, it's not as if it's blatantly obvious with character archetypes or political scenarios.

You're entire analysis is done without even completing the story, it's like saying star wars is bad after watching Episode 4

Actually the elundari meddled with Arya's magic, sending the egg off course to Eragon, rather than Brom, just as they fixed his back and finished his physical adaptation to being a rider
User avatar #195 to #180 - Crusader (05/14/2013) [-]
So that was them, I honestly thought that the magic itself changed his appearance and that Arya just messed up.

User avatar #97 to #67 - Mr Ronok (05/14/2013) [-]
and star wars is excellent even if you only see episode 4. and honestly, the only book that lines up with star wars that closely is the first one. the rest kinda taper off on the whole star wars thing
User avatar #100 to #97 - Crusader (05/14/2013) [-]
Kind of, but it's still there, the dude becomes really important in the rebels, goes off to an old decrepit teacher to learn, said teacher then dies.
He learns his "father" was the evil dude's right hand man, secret sibling, super rare sword from his "father" that is given to him by the wise old mentor
The outlaw best bud and the non-human companion
Romance with a princess
Black dude is important but kind of a dick
A bunch of short guys decide to help out
There's a lot more

Not to mention that the "rare sword" was in all stories, but only in his possession for the first 2, much like Luke's Lightsaber.
Both came from extremely remote regions after being dropped off with their uncle and aunt after the "death" of their parents.
Antagonist's soldiers come and destroy the farm they grew up on and kill their uncle.
They spend the first part of their stories simply traveling to the remote rebel headquarters, only to have a giant fight that is ended with an explosion.
The second leg of their journey is all about them learning and training and suddenly they have to travel a great distance, just to end up in the middle of a battle where they have to fight someone much better than, only to be beaten and have the "truth" about their father's revealed, while losing their weapon.

Not to mention at the end of the whole war there is a massive explosion of nuclear proportions in which they have to make a speedy escape, and then they go off to teach people and change the code from what it was originally to what the world can actually use.
User avatar #192 to #155 - Crusader (05/14/2013) [-]
Hey ******* , if you look at my other comments, I said that Brom was his father, the reason I put quotation marks around "father" was that it wasn't actually his father and only who he thought was the father.
And how he dies doesn't matter, it's still a parallel to Star Wars.

Hey. Hey. You. That's right. I'm talking to you. Here I am, minding my own business, when I scroll down from this content, and I see your post. This Eragon post. Mr Ronoks post. The post that immediately filled me with such rage that I had to go find my Eragon book series, and cuddle them and assure them that they will not be abused like that again. You've brought up some painful memories. The movie was awful. In fact, there was no movie. Only a giant steaming pile of turd with some actors thrown in it
User avatar #196 to #39 - Crusader (05/14/2013) [-]
My friends and I made a 30 minute video that summarized Eragon.
I used it for film class, they used it for drama, it was decent for the fact that it was basically all on a go pro, but it was still more accurate than the hollywood version

That explains why The Hobbit was COMPLETELY different from the book.
User avatar #65 to #56 - supamonkey (05/14/2013) [-]
True, but then it is not advisable to assume a film adaptation of a book (or other media) will exactly the same as the book itself. Some themes and devices don't translate well, but you are also getting the adaptors version of the book. Watching the Hobbit films is like sitting inside Peter Jackson's head as he reads the books.

They still could've gone through the movie without the need of having a primary antagonist. The book's story was episodic. They didn't need Azog.

remember that the hobbit was made as a bedtime story, so off paper it would be much slower.

Not necessarily a bedtime story. More like a children's story in the same fashion as Narnia.
