Scientists, remember:
If your theory goes against Einstein's theory of relativity, it still might be good.
If your theory goes against quantum field theory, it still might be good.
If your theory goes against the Big Bang model, it still might be good.

But if your theory goes against the Second Law of Thermodynamics, then you're fucked.

all natural and technological processes proceed in such a way that the availability of the remaining energy decreases. in all energy exchanges, if no energy enters or leaves an isolated system, the entropy of that system incr-cr-cr-eases. energy continuously flows from being concentrated to becoming dispersed, thus spread out, wasted, and useless. new energy cannot be created and high grade energy is being destroyed. and economy based on endless growth is UNSUSTAINABLE

The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of an isolated system never decreases, because isolated systems spontaneously evolve towards thermodynamic equilibrium—the state of maximum entropy. Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the second kind are impossible.

I had the course last semester, I scored a B+. Shit get intense.

Wow I have my final for physics tomorrow and I was putting off studying and looking at funnyjunk until i realized I can't answer this question so funnyjunk actually just convinced me to go study

The 1st law is "matter can not be created or destroyed" which is pretty crazy because I thought everything was created by the big bang?

Wasn't created I suppose, everything was just compressed and then it expoded...

But what is the first rule?
User avatar #19 - allamericandude ONLINE (05/13/2013) [-]
Have you ever noticed that it's always the Second Law?

I had something like that on a materials science test--the choices were "Fick's First Law" and "Fick's Second Law", so I wrote "Fick's Second Law--because it's always the second law." And it was right.

Fuck If I know which law is which, I just know how to use em.

Ill use this on my ap physics test tomorrow
