Fun fact: America has a medal called a purple heart. It's awarded to men who are wounded or killed in battle. Well every single one given out in the last 70 or so years was made in preparation for the land invasion of Japan. The US government made half a million of them, because they expected the battle for the Japanese mainland would claim at least that many Americans. But then they went ahead and spent the equivalent of 20 BILLION dollars and a 5th of all the electric power in the entire united states to build 3 nukes instead. So after nuking the desert (for the LULZ) they slapped the Japs **** with the other two and then trolled like ************* by claiming that they had hundreds more nukes and that they would keep using them on Japan unless they surrendered. And they Japs bought it.

So all the purple hearts given to US veterans for the Last 70 years are from that production run, and it's not unusual for veterans to have 2 or 3 of them. After Korea, Vietnam, both gulf wars and Afghanistan there are still 120000 of them left.

Additional fun fact: The Japs were planning on developing A-bombs too. But they thought it was unfeasible and so they decided to try building a death ray instead. They spent huge amounts of recourses on it, and in the end all it could do was stop a truck from 100ft away, or take 10 whole minutes to kill a prisoner tired to a pole from the same distance.

Fun fact: The japanese would have surrendered anyway, whether the US had nuked them or not.

actually this has been proven to be true but in fact Japan wasn't going to surrender after our atomic bombs. Japan knew that if they surrendered to us, we would allow them to keep their dynasty thing going while the Soviet Union would have abolished it and made Japan communist. Truman and Stalin had an agreement going in which Stalin would officially enter the Pacific war on August 15th. Stalin however disobeyed that and had captured the entire Manchurian Peninsula before then and was readying a naval fleet to invade Japan directly while the US had no preparations ready for a land invasion. Japan Surrendered to us specifically because they knew that the Soviets were not going to stop until every last Jap was dead.

TL;DR : The bombs weren't the reason Japan surrendered, it was the Soviet Union

Japs is a derogatory term.
Trinity was a test bomb.
Other than that, this was quite interesting.

the desert nuke wasnt for the lulz you ******* retard. It was the first weapon of its kind in existence worth millions of dollars, they had to test it to make sure it would actually work.

Holy **** , do some research before opening your god damn mouth.

Of course it was a test. I was just making a little joke.
I'm not retarded. They didn't want to drop the bomb, have it not work, and then have the Japanese steal the design, or the fissile material.

To be more precise, we Nuked Japan once and told them we had more and that they should surrender, which they turned down which is why we launched the other nuke. THEN they were like oh **** and surrendered. Otherwise, good post.

The test bomb dropped in the desert was seen for MILES. The U.S Government claimed an ammo cache blew up.

A scientist also had plans, that were approved and constructed, to build a $5 million container that would catch the uranium in case the bomb "fizzled" and failed to explode. They then realized this container was ******* retarded since if the bomb didn't explode then the whole thing would be a failure. And if the bomb did explode, then the container would be vaporized. So the U.S Government effectively wasted $5 million.

Because 'Murica, that's why.
