Feminism has nothing to do with being beta. I live in the UK where you find feminists left, right and centre. These people think they deserve preferential treatment just because they are female or, even worse, they insult you for doing stuff out of courtesy for them because "they don't need no man" to do things for them.

I'm so gonna get thumbed down for this but here it goes

About all the "women are called sluts and men are heroes when they sleep with many people" there's a simple explanation, a 7/10 guy has to put some effort into it to get laid, he has to be the one to flirt, be funny and whatnot, a 7/10 girl will probably manage to get laid by just standing there, people act that way towards womanizers because they do something that takes effort easily and often, not that I'd like that lifestyle to myself, I'd like to devote myself to one person only, call me old fashioned, a mysoginist or whatever you want, that's the way I think

I completely second that. An example would be prostitution. I'm pretty sure most pornstars are female and the fact that the opposite gender (mostly) pays for for sex with females shows that females barely even need to try.

It always rustles my jimmies when I see this. Yes, guys often take the first move and it can take a lot of work in order to be attractive- funny, in good shape, well dressed etc. But that goes for women as well- you think Megan Fox just wakes up like that? A lot of time, money and work goes into being attractive for women as well. Make up, hair, nails, fit body, waxing etc.. it goes both ways. The difference is men have to put on a show in order to be attractive, play apart. Whilst women focus their effort in looking the part. Men are more visually turned on than women. trust me- i'm a plain jane fem anon who has to put a lot of work in to look mildly attractive.

She was followed by one guy. Learn to read.
And I am a woman. I have been followed by a man. I have been followed by a group of men. You either learn not to put yourself in that situation (bring a friend, bring another guy, ask a security guard/bouncer to escort you to your car, wait with you for a cab) or learn self defense. On average, human females are physically weaker.
They have less muscle mass, smaller bones, generally a higher body fat ratio, thinner skin. Men are also (generally speaking) more resistant to physical trauma, not to mention will generally hit harder.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen that a woman may be a 6"2 body builder and MMA fighter who could win a fight with most men, but most women couldn't.

I'm 6'3" and weigh about 190lbs, if it was dark and I was walking behind a girl wolf whistling and telling her how hot she is I'd expect her to be scared and unwilling to approach me.
But I'm not a creep, so I wouldn't do that.

Can I ask what your definition of feminist is? I'm not trying to start a ********* here, but it seems a little skewed. I would argue that all women are to a certain degree feminist, because it means simply asking for equal rights to men - not more rights than men, that would be a perversion of equality.
User avatar #116 to #113 - flemsdfer (05/12/2013) [-]
My opinion is that it's wanting more rights than men. The term itself is 'feminism' and that name puts it as just for females. That's segregation from the get go so equality just flew out the window. That leaves less rights and more rights and let's face it no one fights for less rights. Anyone I've met that wants equality doesn't throw such labels around. It's called being fair.
User avatar #123 to #116 - defeats (05/12/2013) [-]
Feminism: the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

What you said isn't feminism, but more of a... Feminist elitism? I don't know...
#125 to #123 - urbemarmis (05/12/2013) [-]
feminist elitism has essentially taken over the feminist movement.
User avatar #129 to #125 - defeats (05/12/2013) [-]
Yeah, this is also true.
The problem is many females become feminist not because they believe the ideals, but because they or somebody close to them has been victimised somehow.
I can understand why a woman who was raped, or the sister of somebody who was raped can bring hatred to feminism.
Such as the leaders of one feminist organisation (not one I can name off the top of my head, but there was a picture on this site from her website about conviction of rapists) but she was a rape victim or "survivor" as they called them on the website.

Such hatred is what has changed feminism. Such as the hatred that sparks terrorism in religious people.
#124 to #113 - urbemarmis (05/12/2013) [-]
essentially what flemsdfer said. i believe feminism was once a good thing, but now its been taken over by the man hating bitches. lesbians and your typical college aged blogger who doesnt shut the **** up about saving the planet. even some lesbians that arent feminists can be assholes too though. a little anecdote that happened a few weeks ago: im at a jiu jitsu tournament and i was called to roll at a mat that the only way to get there was to go thru this narrow area of the gym where the medal tables were. theres this lesbian (and i mean like dyke looking lesbian. thats how i knew) that was just standing there doing nothing. not even watching. she was just standing there. i try to get around her and i say excuse me and she goes "what?" in a challenging manner and looks at me like she was sizing me up. i didnt say anything to avoid having a lesbian getting pissed at me for no reason. im assuming she wasnt a feminist, and if she wasnt it just goes to show that although not all asshole women are feminists, but most feminists are asshole women
User avatar #136 to #124 - dtox (05/12/2013) [-]
Why is it lesbians now? how about people who're too thick in their own ego to realize that they're doing the exact opposite that the study of feminism desires from them?

And, to be honest, you're doing no better than those "man hating bloggers" by sitting there and generalizing the field of feminism (as well as its members).

Also, you immediately assumed some woman was a lesbian because she looked like a "dyke," which is just another fallacy.

My problem is that it's misleading to use the word "feminism" when you mean human rights in general.
Seriously, it's just more accurate.
User avatar #55 to #52 - monkee (05/12/2013) [-]
The term definitely leads to the presumption it's only focused on female issues, but that's because it evolved in a time when women were seriously repressed. It's been around since the Victorian ages, when women couldn't work when married, couldn't vote and didn't have any other way to express themselves. Nobody likes to hear it, but gender inequality is still a huge issue in every society. It's just the context and severity that differs.
Liberal feminism does focus on both sexes but the name is stupid. Equalists doesn't have the same tone to it, which is why it's barely used, but is a much more correct term.
User avatar #57 to #55 - RandomAnonGuy (05/12/2013) [-]
"Human rights activist" has a nice ring to it.
Also "Egalitarian"
"Humanist" too.
User avatar #59 to #57 - monkee (05/12/2013) [-]
Humanist is a different thing, you can have a Humanist marriage which is non-religious but celebrates the beauty of humanity, as well as funerals and other celebrations. It's getting quite popular in Scotland at the moment, where I'm from. I agree with Egalitarianism as a concept but it's not quite caught on. In college I am studying sociology amongst other subjects, and feminism is a key concept taught alongside marxism, functionalism and symbolic interactionism. It is an academic school of thought, regardless of the individuals opinion on the subject. They did try to change it to gender but struggled to find research that didn't class itself as feminist, due to the term being used for so long.
User avatar #63 to #59 - RandomAnonGuy (05/12/2013) [-]
Also, from wikipedia, "Egalitarian doctrines maintain that all humans are equal in fundamental worth or social status"
Equality is somewhat central to egalitarianism.

Humanism is a collection of philosophies and perspectives that basically say that humans are wonderful. Any complaints?
As such it's pretty easy to justify using humanist as a label when supporting human rights.
Much easier then trying to justify "feminism" as in "feminine" as supporting mens rights.
User avatar #61 to #52 - Computersaysno (05/12/2013) [-]
Here's my thing about feminism, and I say this as someone who is queer, Jewish and a few other things feminists say they support:

It's fine and ******* dandy to fight oppression inherent in the system (heh, couldn't help myself). In fact, go right ahead! There are a LOT of ****** up things about our society, and it doesn't JUST hurt men. Gender expectations hurt men, and so do the myths about rape. It hurts men to say that they can't control themselves because a woman is naked. That's saying they are nothing but mindless animals who can't think with anything besides their libido. Now, that doesn't mean men can play the victims about rape either. Instead, the rape culture needs to be overthrown. Just, **** that **** over there.

Moving on.

There was a poll done asking men what they are afraid of when it comes to women. Their answer was most commonly that they feared being rejected or humiliated. When women were asked the same thing, the answer was instead that they feared being raped. Now, that's a pretty ****** up thing. So when I hear guys QQ'ing online about how "most girls make it up", I want to shove a shiv up their penis. Until they've had someone force something into something that not only belongs to them, but is part of their body, against their will, they shouldn't talk about it like they know.

The fact is, yes, some women pull that **** , but it's so ******* rare that it's not even worth being brought up. Why diminish the pain and suffering of all the victims just to point out the few bad apples? I strongly suspect most of those men have had sex of questionable consent.

I don't really understand why it is that the whole rape thing has to be a joke or even be brought up as often as it is.

I got off topic, sorry. Basically, I agree with you.
User avatar #128 to #61 - flemsdfer (05/12/2013) [-]
The reason I think rape is viewed like that is because it's heard about often and all it takes is "he raped me" to ruin a guy's life whether he did it or not and that's too much power for some dumb bitch, who doesn't know what the sun is, to have. Sadly it does take away from the actual claims, but once it sticks, even if it's proven to be false later there is no getting off of that list. I had a friend who was with a girl for a period of time which resulted in an unplanned child. He didn't want to be committed to her (she was a crazy bitch who'd call over twenty times a day. every day) but said he'd be there to help out with the child. She constantly talked about just telling the cops he raped her if he didn't talk to her or do anything she wanted which finally ended when he had saved all her phone messages of her drunk and high crying to him about how she was hurting the baby like that because of him ignoring her. Something he had to threaten her with of how he could easily get absolute custody and just give the baby up to adoption and she'd never see it again. Terrible unjust things like that do happen and it ruins it all for everyone. We just can't have nice things, sadly.
