Im moving to Estonia in August to start school in Tartu.
User avatar #198 to #189 - ifuckbabies **User deleted account** (05/11/2013) [-]
Really? Well, you are lucky. Tartu is the best town in this country, and it has amazing people there. I wish i could live there myself! And Tartu has the best schools in Estonia also.

Anything else I should know about Estonian since I am coming from America?
User avatar #205 to #200 - ifuckbabies **User deleted account** (05/11/2013) [-]
Stay away from Pärnu, Valga, Tallinn, Haapsalu.. well.. just stay away from literally every other town. Watch out when you buy things, because if you don't speak Estonian, you are considered a tourist, and tourists pay more. Unless you speak Russian. That works also. Just.. just try to stay inside, hire people to do your shopping, and cut yourself off from real life. You might be able to stay safe that way. Avoid most Russian people also. The younger ones mostly. Old ones are okay. Easier to run away from them, because of arthritis 'n' **** .

Pretty desperate situation you describe ha. Im afraid I won't be able to hide though Im 6 ft 1 and 190 LBS grew up on a ranch so Im not a small guy hah. How are the girls, Drinking, etc..

Do you know where in Tartu you are staying? If you are staying in Annelinn, then you might be ****** . I've heard bad stuff about that place. Every other place in Tartu should be awesome though.
User avatar #211 to #208 - ifuckbabies **User deleted account** (05/11/2013) [-]
Well people do say that Estonia has gorgeous girls, so that's all good.
As for drinking... well... i think that's pretty much all we have here.
Tartu has the best public drinking place in Estonia also. There is a park where drinking is legal ( you can drink cider, beer and other things that aren't too strong ), so that's fun times. Of course it's only legal there if you are at least 18 years old. If you ever want to visit other places in Estonia, then you can always contact me also. I can invite you to some pretty decent parties sometimes perhaps. Just watch out who you drink with. Estonians will steal your stuff, and Russians will steal your stuff and stab you. Estonians are too scared to stab you, so that's okay.
#216 to #211 - washingtonhick (05/11/2013) [-]
Im just going to be in the dorm in Raatuse. I can out drink most people here so it should be good to be with some fellow drinkers : D. Except here we drink whiskey straight I assume its more vodka over there. Last thing, I assume bringing my cowboy hats and boots would be a horrible idea correct?
User avatar #220 to #216 - ifuckbabies **User deleted account** (05/11/2013) [-]
Mate, i wear a cowboy hat all the time. No boots though. And my cowboy hat says " I go commando, do you? ".. so.. I am basically a fashion crime. It's a good thing i don't care about fashion! Anyways... bring the boots and cowboy hat. Those things are badass. And yea, it's mostly vodka here, though i don't drink that anymore. I've gotten soft. Only beer for me.

I think it's mostly due to the Soviet regime who didn't allow freedom of religion and gave a lot of anti-religious propaganda which is why they don't believe in God or any other religion. Although I could be wrong.

Correct, since most of the churches in the Soviet regime was "Capitalized" with money.
Easy said, the rich folks was naturally religious, although there was some christian allowed, these supported the communists.

The Scandinavian countries are Scandinavian. We live in a life of luxury and wealth and we have been pretty liberal over the years. Since we have been really forward thinking and not gone around in the past religion hasn't been seen as very important to us. Since the 70's everything that has happened with science and so on, we've been pretty open to and the religious people often stood in the past rather than wanting to adapt to the new world view so many abandoned their faith. Others also so an alternative to faith and thought we don't need religion since science can explain where we come from.

Overall, it was a new age and the religious didn't like it and decided to stay in the past which made people want to abandon their faith.

The communist propaganda thing isn't made up if that's what you believe. There are as many believing in God in Eastern Germany as there are in Estonia.

Short history of Estonia.
Estonia had the pagan thing goin' on from the beggining of the times and then the crusades just shoved the religion down everyones throat and made everyone a slave. Then in the first part of 20th century Estonia was declared a republic and it stayed for a few years. Not much time passed and **** hit the fan with the WWII and Estonia was yet again in the crossfire and in constant Nazi/Soviet occupation switcheroo. Eventually WWII ended and yet again it was under a reign of someone else, but Estonians.

All Estonia ever wanted was a pepsi freedom and neutrality. After going through all that, you can see why there's resentment against pretty much everything. The goverment, the church, everything. How do I know this? I'm from Estonia.

Its full of American Money and Ayn Rand novels, just brandish those at him. He usually hisses and flees back to his box. I'll send a few guys down there to fix up the display, it'll be fine in an hour or so.

18% of Estonian citizens responded that "they believe there is a God", whereas 50% answered that "they believe there is some sort of spirit or life force" and 29% that "they do not believe there is any sort of spirit, god, or life force". - European Union survey, 'irreligious' does not mean 'atheist'. Outright atheists remain a minority in even Sweden.

Well actually, it's not so much that there are so many non-religious Nords, but it's considered a personal, private thing that you don't whip out and shove in peoples' faces.
So you don't know if a perosn is religious, and it's impolite to ask.

But at the same time, Nordic Gods are badass, why wouldn't you flaunt them? Marvel does and gets money for it.
