I dont see how that pertains to the gif, the lyric is "Somebody told me that you had a boyfriend" etcetra. Plus, it doesnt pertain to the conversation, The Killers are a altenative rock band.

DON'T YOU EVER INSULT RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
User avatar #181 to #1 - psykojet (05/11/2013) [-]
Rage against the Machine is good. The Beastie Boys are awesome. Hollywood Undead are more thug-ish/gangsta rap metal, but with some great songs(Young, We Are, The Natives, Been to Hell, and Another Way Way being the first to come to mind). Linkin Park's new stuff is rap metal, but not as good as their older stuff. And I feel like I am forgetting someone, but oh well.

I think as a genera, yes, it is bad, but rap can be incorporated into metal pretty well. Think of the song liberate by disturbed. It's not really rap metal, but the vocals are fast and flow in a rap like way.

No really metal, but RHCP uses rap too. I think of rap more as a vocal style than as a genera of its own. That's why it has to be really good to stand on its own.
User avatar #176 to #39 - guymandude (05/11/2013) [-]
Agreed. RHCP and Rage Against the Machine did this style well, and the genre is considered mostly bad due to the fact that RHCP and Rage bred a lot of imitators (btw, if you ever listen to the RHCP albums Uplift Mofo Party Plan and Mother's Milk, those two edge very close to full on metal).
User avatar #180 to #176 - guymandude (05/11/2013) [-]
yeah, that song, along with Nobody Weird Like Me, and Backwoods from Uplift Mofo is "metal-esque"

The thing is success doesn't mean the same thing to different people. For some it is to simply survive. For some it is getting rich. For some it is having a family and taking good care of them. For some it is to be famous and heard. For some it is to serve.

Heck, for some it is even to kill and strike fear into other's hearts.

Whatever it is, success is not when you've fulfilled the common dream, but when you've fulfilled the your own dreams. (Unless the common dream is what you actually want). If I ended up in a job that I never wanted, I'd be devastated too.

I remember being thirteen years old saying something very similar. It was along the lines of "I want to be in a world famous punk rock band and be as good as Green Day!" (I said I was 13, shut your ******* mouths). I got picked on quite a bit for being a band geek and always got laughed at when people saw me toting around with my guitar or ,y keyboard. Well guess what?

It's almost a decade later, and now I'm a professional keyboardist with a full time job as a sound engineer. Moral of the story, keep the ******* dream alive!
User avatar #336 to #310 - shugudugs (05/11/2013) [-]
What did you study to become a sound engineer? I want. Teach me. Seriously.
User avatar #342 to #336 - jazzspeaks (05/11/2013) [-]
It was actually kind of weird situation. I started school as a music major, studying jazz piano performance. I did a ton of recording sessions and I ended up spending so much time around recording gear that I was inspired to build my own crappy little home studio. I had two condensers, a preamp that I swear rattled when you turned it on, and two cruddy programs running through a relic of a laptop. I really had to learn the ins and outs of the hardware and software to make it work, and ended up accidentally teaching myself how to really record and edit.

So, simply put, buy the most basic setup you can, record with it, then spend every waking moment familiarizing yourself with the gear you have. You build on that, then take some classes once you have it figured out. My music connections got me hooked up with gurus in the area who passed on more tricks of the trade, who I worked my ass off for, and work your way in with the big boys. Do volunteer work at local shows on the soundboards, record everything you can at home and spend every waking hour refining those recordings, network like a madman, and eventually you'll catch the attention of someone working for a real recording company.

It's definitely not a sure fire way of doing it (lord knows I was lucky as hell), but it's a great way to learn in a way that you know works for you.

There's also schools like Belmont, Full Sail, and Ithaca that have unbelievable music industry programs. If you're looking to drop that kind of money.

Good luck! It's tough and at times infuriating, but once you get it, it's a seriously valuable skill.

Here's the gear I used to get started
-Audacity
-Nuendo
-(eventually switched to pro tools)
-eumann U67 condenser mic (good for male voice)
Telefunken 251 (good for acoustic recording, grand piano in my case)
-Mono Gamma preamp
-cant remember the model of soundboard I used exactly, but it was a cruddy six-channel that did the job

Overall cost about $900 used, mostly through random eBay and garage sale purchases
