Yeah. If I were going to make a shelter like that, There would be a lot more space and alot more supplies. Mostly because if you're gonna do it, you might as well have enough to last 6 months or longer

yeah, rather survive and only get to drink nuka cola then sit in a ****** bunker that would get destroyed by the bombs
#99 to #93 - anon (05/09/2013) [-]
what if you were in one of the test vaults that allowed radiation to seep in/ had an excess of guns and chems/ opened up too early for the nuclear fallout to clear enough?

you wouldnt be sipping nuka cola for long.
thats even assuming you make it that far. you could be standing outside the vault when it goes off, the radiation will set in then youll become a ghoul.

usually american television is full of decadent immoral western filth, but married with children and malcolm in middle are funny.

i guess because in both shows the families are poor so I can relate to the characters.

mwf im so poor that i cant even afford a "mfw" image.

If a nuclear bomb went off within a close enough distance that you'd need a fallout shelter, what possible use could you have for a phonebook?

you use your new found time to erase all the numbers of the people who died
#26 to #1 - anon (05/09/2013) [-]
Back in the day, phone books also contained addresses...
User avatar #30 to #26 - wheresthefudge (05/09/2013) [-]
Addresses don't do you any good without maps. Furthermore, I think it'd be rather ridiculous if you didn't know the layout of your hometown.
#52 to #30 - anon (05/09/2013) [-]
This. I was also thinking maybe one could argue the layout of your hometown would be greatly changed by a nuclear bomb going off in it. But then... I would also think roadsigns are the first to be ******* vaporized so what good would addresses be then.
#27 to #1 - anon (05/09/2013) [-]
Most of today's generation can't read road/street maps.
Sad...
#29 to #27 - anon (05/09/2013) [-]
How will your generation survive without the Internet?
You can't.
Books are obsolete, remember?
#33 to #1 - anon (05/09/2013) [-]
Phone books can provide an entire evening's heat if you know how to start a fire.
You do know how to make fire, don't you?
User avatar #35 to #33 - wheresthefudge (05/09/2013) [-]
It certainly could, but there are better sources of fuel out there. Certainly many which are more easily obtained.
#167 to #1 - harleycurnow (05/09/2013) [-]

User avatar #178 to #1 - elcreepo (05/09/2013) [-]
All the people down below might have stupid answers for why you need a phonebook, but the real answer is simply you never know when or why a ******* of paper is going to come in handy.

Just that it might. Best be overprepared then under prepared~
User avatar #263 to #178 - wheresthefudge (05/10/2013) [-]
But it's tissue-thin paper which already has its surface covered in now useless information. Also, the paper is likely glossy now (from the weight of the rest of the phonebook), rendering what little space is left on it useless for writing.

The only possible purpose is as a register of the dead.

Man died in the house. Sold by his family who never spent much time there. Bushes grow on top and around. They sell house, new people move in, trim close to the house. BAM fallout shelter.

There's the remnants of a bomb shelter built between the garage and rest of my grandmother's house.
I'm totally cleaning it out (It's got like two feet of sand in it for some reason?) and making a badass mancave out of it.
