>Great Britain flag
>American say's it's English
>Wow this comic sucks
#223 to #209 - anonymous (05/09/2013) [-]
Its funny because 'American' is closer to original English than European English. European English is spoken that way because after America became independent they wanted to separate themselves further, even at the language level.

The girl who make these made a comic about why England was wearing the Union Jack ... When he wore his own flag everyone thought he was redcross guy.

That is the Union Jack. Not Great Britain's flag. Although they are almost the same. Besides, America is usually portrayed as ignorant of european culture in those comics.

It's actually the Union Flag, it's only the Union Jack when on the Jack mast of a ship
fun little fact for everyone there

Some people claim (wrongly) that the America ACCENT is closer to colonial (so called 'original') English, mainly because of the rhetoric accents Americans speak, but this is nonsense, because most accents in Britain still have rhetoric accents too, such as Irish, Cornish, Scottish, an many areas in East Anglia and the Midlands, and these all sound distinct and not all that similar. The person who came up with this theory obviously has the ignorant view that everyone in Britain speaks like the Queen or Hugh Grant. To say the American rhetoric accent is the "real" one is absurd and impossible to know.

Also, he isn't wearing the English flag.

Well England is part of the Island Britain, and the English language originated from England, so therefore logic dictates that English did in fact originate from Britain.

The Red Cross is one of the most prominent charity organization, but I don't think they invented English.

And yet, because of the shared television shows and movies between us, our accents are slowly homogenizing...
#160 - urbemarmis (05/09/2013) [-]
now i do agree this **** it stupid. i could go on for hours about this language i call "da doo" language from my town (its ******* stupid. everyone looks back at it and laughs at themselves) but this is how different languages are formed. spanish, french portuguese and italian all formed from latin, but instead of them saying "hey lets create a new language" they just started speaking it. different slangs and dialects, of the same language and even a merge between other languages of the area soon branched off so far that they became what we now know as the romance languages. hell who knows maybe some day we'll have american, and mexico will have mexican?

Actually the Americans got their accent from first the natives and then after the 'melting pot' accents amalgenated (not sure how to spell) into one accent
#161 to #157 - angelusprimus (05/09/2013) [-]
And which "american" accent would that be?
There are about 75 regional accents in USA.
Would it be Boston accent? New York accent? Virginia accent? West Virginia hill accent? New hampshire, vermont, georgia, texas, luisiana?
Which "american accent" are you talking about?
