There are radios that can survive an EMP. In fact if world wide nuclear war or a really ******* massive solar flare happened one of the only forms of communications that will still exist is shortwave HF radios.
#2 to #1 - zzzapped (05/08/2013) [-]
Yup most military stuff is EMP proof
User avatar #4 to #2 - heretofuckshitup (05/08/2013) [-]
really? So you guys are saying everything I know about EMPs is a lie. well damn....damn
#5 to #4 - zzzapped (05/08/2013) [-]
well, almost every thing is not EMP proof. But since one of the side effects of a nuke is an EMP the millitary decided to build EMP proof stuff, for example Radios and simmilar.
#6 to #1 - shaunrnm (05/08/2013) [-]
You contradicted yourself, if its HF then it will be long waves ie 20m+ VHF or UHF are shortwave

It's not through radio, the Characters shout it out, as pointed out on reddit where you got this image.

EMP's in CoD supposedly kill ACOG sights which don't use electricity. They use an internal phosphor.
User avatar #14 - tenthousandmarbles **User deleted account** (05/08/2013) [-]
I dont understand why the eye sight goes all fuzzy apparently, all of them are terminators.
User avatar #20 to #14 - isheapurebread (05/08/2013) [-]
Well if you notice, they have an uplink to a map, the score, etc. It's like a disabled HUD glasses I suppose.

Most military radios are protected by a thin layer of lead.

Now explain to me why a knife goes through Kevlar but a 50 caliber bullet doesn't....
#37 to #34 - aaronvan ONLINE (05/08/2013) [-]
i do believe in reality Kevlar would give you very little protection against a knife although i doubt itd provide much protection from a 50
User avatar #38 to #37 - SKYLINESPEC (05/08/2013) [-]
Kevlar will essentially protect you entirely from a knife attack. especially the kind used in thick fragmentation vests with ceramic plates
#39 to #38 - aaronvan ONLINE (05/09/2013) [-]
After doing some research (looking at various yahoo answers) it seems some vests are rated for knife protection and some arent
User avatar #40 to #39 - SKYLINESPEC (05/09/2013) [-]
Well from experience I have never worn a kevlar vest that doesn't provide protection from knives

How they actually did it

I always thought it would be cool if EMPs would shut down communications between team mates.

like live chat wouldnt work anymore
#17 - anon (05/08/2013) [-]
military radio is emp save. Most of the miliary equipment is,
User avatar #21 to #17 - threadz (05/08/2013) [-]
I believe that only means the radio won't break when the EMP goes off. It would still be unable to distinguish EMP static from other transmissions, making it useless during the EMP, but it would be usable again after the EMP.

Part of DLC for mw2 look at the gun he's using.

Casual as **** .
#15 to #9 - anon (05/08/2013) [-]
in MW2 they got it right though, if you get EMP'd you shout it out towards your teammates instead of hearing it on the radio
User avatar #13 to #9 - twiley (05/08/2013) [-]
Help me here, i have never seen that map in cod4, what was it called?
I never bought any DLC...
User avatar #36 - SKYLINESPEC (05/08/2013) [-]
Not sure about other militaries but here in Canada our large 522 Radios weigh about 45 pounds, the reason it is so heavy is because they are built to withstand emp shocks.

I'm sure more advanced military's like the United States have similar specs.

The more you know
User avatar #16 - burningxundead (05/08/2013) [-]
Haha its funny because its CoD4
#18 to #16 - efitjd (05/08/2013) [-]
that is not CoD4, it is a map from there yes, but it's on MW2.
User avatar #41 to #18 - burningxundead (05/25/2013) [-]
Lol I just realized, but then it was too late and I was like "nooooo"

you should too
#7 - anon (05/08/2013) [-]
That's actually a CoD 4 map on CoD 6.

I still play CoD 4. The building on the left doesn't have the green lining. Not to mention the gun being used is not present either.
User avatar #24 to #7 - jeudyfeo (05/08/2013) [-]
Yeah, you can notice because of the red dot on the LMG, way different than the one in MW1
