Literally my thoughts every. Single. Day. The career path that I'm on (aerospace engineer) is one that I picked specifically because if I can't be the one to sail the stars and walk on new worlds, then dammit I want my kids and my kids' kids to do it. Doesn't keep me from dreaming, though...I still applied to Mars One (a guy can dream)

Hey how long are you into your major? I'm currently a freshmen physics majors and really love aerospace, or space in general. Planning to go for a master in aerospace engineering, how huge of a leap is it from a bachelors in physics to aerospace? Any special courses that are required for aerospace?

And just why CAN'T I explore the galaxy?
how do you know something won't happen within my lifetime that allows me to do so?
And furthermore, there's still a hell of a lot more we still do not know about our world, and I haven't even seen a tiny fraction of it, so I can explore wherever the **** I want.

Just because people have already been there doesn't mean exploration is impossible.
**** you and your dream crushing attempts, I DO WHAT I WISH.

People have already been able to see mars thousands of years ago.
They thought it was just a star.

Yes, poor me, I dont get to explore the world on a diseased filled boat with nothing but men and rats for 13 months only to fight for my life against natives for 3 years, and for what? To be a number in a textbook while the asshole in charge who sat back got his name in it? And as far as the future goes,

This is the kind of attitude that holds humanity back. The Wright brothers didn't accidentally invent the plane. Columbus didn't accidentally discover America. They went out and made it happen. I guarantee there are people alive now that will explore the galaxy because they will tirelessly work for their entire lives to make it happen. There are endless things you can accomplish in your life but sitting there and thinking "I haven't just had a life full of wonder handed to me on a golden platter" won't achieve anything.

Things that are within 50 years:

-Cure for AIDs
-Cure for Cancer
-Invention of efficient, sustainable source of power
-Space Travel
-Artificial genetic enhancement
-3D printing
-Discovery of alien species

"Everything that can be invented – has already been invented," - Charles Duell, 1899

If you continue with this attitude then people in 100 years time will look back and laugh at your ignorance.

TL;DR: Humanity only advances if humans make it advance.
