Except people care about Japan's history further back than a few hundred years.

No one cares about natives of america or australia, only what happened since england and spain and stuff colonised them.
User avatar #87 to #74 - pseudobob **User deleted account** (05/05/2013) [-]
american and australian histories don't go back very far because the natives there never wrote anything down.
User avatar #93 to #87 - MoooP (05/05/2013) [-]
That's true, but what they did keep track of was ignored/destroyed mostly because yay colonization :D

If anything you are supporting my argument that not every country has as good a recorded history :P (plus japan being on such an isolated island means it's culture is somewhat more unique, it has had less time to homogenize.)
#126 to #93 - datacetone (05/06/2013) [-]
Except not, because nearly none of the colonized countries had sophisticated writing systems (a precursor of civilization) or other achievements valued.

As for Japan, it is possible one of the most homogenized countries in the world, with 98.5% being native Japanese. Or if by homogenized, you meant with the rest of the world, which is a rather silly notion as well, considering the sheer amount of differences between countless cultures in even the first world.

#112 to #93 - pseudobob **User deleted account** (05/06/2013) [-]
I wasn't trying to start anything, but I guess now I'll have to.

N/S American and Australian history, especially the Americas, have extremely diverse, complex, and long histories that should be of interest to anyone studying history, politics, culture, et al. The main reason why the histories of the first nations are so convoluted and sparse is few of them ever developed or used written language, so most stories were passed through generations orally, or painted/carved. Post-colonizations, most aboriginal people (and I mean MOST like 70%, probably more) were dead, and most alive were dying or in some other kind of trouble. So most of the histories and customs (and thus, culture) were carried to the grave and subsequently forgotten.

Written language has existed for thousands of years across Asia, Europe, and Africa especially, so a large amount of that history is known. Some South American natives, like the Aztecs and that whole bunch, used pictographs but not as commonly or as well as in the East in places like Egypt. Unfortunately those cultures were beyond decimated as well. One could even say that the Library of Alexandria is among many examples of cultures and even whole languages disappearing because of war and violence, revolt and revolution.

Overall there is something you should be taking away from this. Just because history doesn't go back very far or is incomplete, it doesn't mean nobody cares about it. I should say the opposite is true. We never know what we've got until it's gone but, unfortunately, in these cases we'll probably never know what we had in the first place.

Aaaaaaaaaaand Lost the Game.

I actually just started to watch Kamen Rider and I gotta say I am super impressed. America ****** up such a good thing by trying to make it "Power Rangers"
User avatar #119 to #110 - chaotixx (05/06/2013) [-]
Let me give you a little history lesson. Originally in the early 70's there was a series known as Super Sentai, it was immensely popular in Japan, and in the 90's a producer known as Haim Saban took the ideas of Super Sentai and essentially watered it down to be watched by American children. Originally it was more of an adult oriented television show. Same with Kamen Rider, which also started in the 70's with Ichigo, the designs wee simple but effective, and once again Haim Saban brought it over here and neutered it. The first series being Kamen Rider Black, turned into the god awful Masked rider. Later on they tried it with Ryuki adapting it into Dragon rider, while still bad it was at the very least watchable.

Tl:DR - Watch the Japanese Kamen Rider/ Super Sentai. It is far superior.
