That series is INCREDIBLE, shame about the last book not standing up to the others, and the prequel too, then again the author being dead doesn't help things much....

Meh. I've been plowing through The Dresden Files lately. I'm almost done with book 4.
Why does this pic have the series in reverse order?

I'm currently reading a 10 book saga by Steven Erikson, a Canadian author who is amazing. He created the entire history of his world going back thousands of years. It's a fantasy novel with mages and gods, and demons, etc for those who are interested.

The fact that there is a "Teen Paranormal Romance" section at Barnes & Noble is enough to make me want to burn the place down ...
#40 to #30 - joehue (05/05/2013) [-]
I actually went to Barnes and Nobles and saw this aisle..
I spoke my thoughts aloud and said, 'Oh my God, you got to be kidding me.'
I didn't even realize there was 3 girls right next to me and as I walked out with my ***** and Wolf LNs, a science fiction book(Some book called Monster Hunters) and Life of Pi, I received dirty looks from them.
After watching the movie.

Not super relevant, but God damn it I love Holo.

**** man. I need to get into that series. I have the first book, but i have yet to read it.
That's Wheel of Time right?
User avatar #42 to #35 - srslyjakecease (05/05/2013) [-]
Correct. Read it. It's slow at times, but excellent.
User avatar #44 to #42 - azraelthemage (05/05/2013) [-]
I've been plowing through the Dresden Files books. Maybe once I'm fare enough in the series, I'll start reading it. The series is finished anyway, so it's not like it's going anywhere. Also, I've heard that they're making a movie of the first book. Is that true?
User avatar #45 to #44 - srslyjakecease (05/05/2013) [-]
Supposedly so. If i recall correctly, some people from the staff of Dragonmount (pretty much the largest fan site I know of for the series) are working with the director to help get it right... so i hope its so. my only worry is that there's 12 books. Making movies of all of them would be a monumental task, and not making movies for them all would be extremely disappointing.
User avatar #46 to #45 - azraelthemage (05/05/2013) [-]
I thought there were 14 books.
#47 to #46 - srslyjakecease (05/05/2013) [-]
I make that mistake often... there WHERE going to be 12 books. The 12th one was so enormous that they had to break it into 3 parts. my bad, you are correct.

I had heard about that. Considering how each book is large enough as is, I can only imagine how big it would've been if they left it as one book.
#50 to #49 - srslyjakecease (05/05/2013) [-]
If it were released that large, i would have gotten it recovered to look like a grimoire, and put it on a pedestal next to my bookshelf.

on second thought, i'm kind of disappointed that this didnt happen.

If it did happen, I'd have it buried with my body when I die. That way, a thousand years from now, someone would dig up my grave, find the book, and a new religion would spawn.
User avatar #52 to #51 - srslyjakecease (05/05/2013) [-]
Perfect. All hail the lord dragon!
User avatar #53 to #52 - azraelthemage (05/05/2013) [-]
...You know what? **** it, I might as well do that with all of Tolkein's works. Have a custom made composition grimoire that holds all of his works in one. Make the cover made out of leather, rewrite some of the lines to look like verses of the bible, and viola. Instant religion material.
#64 to #53 - budokai (05/05/2013) [-]
Iwould buy the **** out of that book!

A saga is the whole story, therefore Rowling can only be truly said to have written one.
I guess you could split star wars in to the Luke saga and the anakiin saga if oyu really wanted to, but that's still somewhat short of 6, and I'm not even sure he wrote the new films.
Tolkien is a contestable topic, as you could argue all the events he writes about in middle earth are the same 'story'. Though there are also legitmate arguments that the hobbit was originally meant to be a separate tale and the overlap came later.
Lewis again is contestable, as all the events of Narnia can be argued to be the same saga. Though you could argue that it be split into the 'Lucy, Peter, Edmund and Dumb bitch saga' and the magicians nephew, though this is a pretty weak argument.
Finally there's Alexander, whose work I am unfamiliar with, though whose wikipedia page would suggest he did indeed write 3 separate sagas.

But most of all what was wrong with this was classing Stephanie Meyer as an author.

tl;dr I will ****** any joy you find in this post away with pedantic, unnecessary criticism; because it makes me hard.
I also expect red thumbs for this, but this will only further fuel my lust.

If you want to get technical, LotR is a saga. There are three volumes with 2 books per volume. Each book is from 12 to 14 chapters long and the books in Two Towers and Return of the King tell different sides of the story.
#54 to #36 - anonymous (05/05/2013) [-]
I gave you a thumb for knowing LotR is 6 books and not 3.

3 to Tolkien? What about The Hobbit or The Silmarillion?
#29 to #6 - drmcninja (05/05/2013) [-]
The Hobbit was written for children more or less as a bedtime story. The Silmarillion is more saga-worthy, but goddamn you'd have to read through it first.
User avatar #24 to #6 - Dincorta (05/05/2013) [-]
"...forging of great epic sagas. 3 were given to Tolkien..."

Tolkien received 3 sagas.

1. LOTR
2. The Hobbit
3. The Silmarillion

They're all sagas in themselves.
