Sort of. There is one but it's implied that the joker made it up and even he doesn't know his own origin story.

there is many backstories for joker.the most common one was that he was a comedian who got into trouble and had to pose as a robber.he then got thrown into a vat of chemical acids that turned him ******* insane and his skin to the color it is now.

other stories place him as a gangster who went insane or just gangster who uses clown gimmic.

the backstory varies from time to time and none of these are "official" backstory for him.

Yes, the one by Alan Moore (this panel is actually from the comic) is generally accepted as the origin story. He's had others, but most of them are just variations of this one.

That's just how he became the Joker, but nobody knew who he was before the Red Hood. I don't think even he knows.

Well all we know is that his wife was pregnant, and he being a comedian needed ends to meet, so he agreed to a sabotage operation or something of that caliber. At the last minute he tried backing out, but the thugs wouldn't let him. His wife and child died, and he fell into the vat and became who we know as the Joker.

The joker is meant to be a creation that is like Batman only that in that the joker lost all he had. He's the batman with just one bad day added in where he lost everything that he loved. He was given that one last push that killed who ever he was.

Batman is still Bruce because he never lost everything but the joker had nothing in the past. They were both nobody till they added one more push. Batman's push made him the Batman and yet he was able to put the cape away and remain Bruce at the end of the night. But the joker's final push made him push back in every way he had been pushed. Because if the joker ever stopped pushing back he would return to that shell he was as the early full on emptiness and despair.

The joker is who he is because the alternative is to be nothing at all. And it is the world biggest joke that he is something from nothing. And nothing all the same.

For people who don't know the source of that picture of alfred being the joker it's from a comic series called whatever happened to the caped crusader. Perhaps one of the saddest parts of the Joker was the fact that there WAS actually a time when he was a normal man trying to live a normal life.

Seeing glimpses of that past somehow brings understanding that a killer with no motive or connection could ever have.

For me, one of these sad inner-Joker moments was when he killed Sarah Gordon.

She had a gun on him, but when she dropped it to save an infant, he shot her with a cold "Merry Christmas." Oddly enough, the Joker found no humor in this murder and even surrendered himself to the police. Seeing him sad and contemplative like that after what would normally be a typical event was actually a bit moving.

The main series of it is Batman issues 13-17, while the others that join in on it, giving more depth to it, as well as their own stories, are as follows.
Batgirl 13-15
Catwoman 13-15
Suicide squad 14-15
Batman and robin 15-16
detective comics 15-16
nightwing 15-16
red hood 15-16
teen titans 15-16

Quite a lot, and some require past issues to understand it all. All I now need is batgirl number 13 with the first print cover, and I will be happy

You forgot the scene before that part where the joker tells the joke which is why batman and joker laugh together.

...I am confused as to what I'm looking at. Sure, they're laughing, does Batman push him into the truck? Do they both get hit by the truck? Is he choking the **** out of him in the middle panel?

batman is just leaning on the joker, to not fall while laughing.
After all they've both gone through, they are now like friends to eachother, at least for this one moment.
then with the coming of the police cars, they both realise what they must do. the Joker gets arrested and batman leaves...

If you are a batman fan, you must read this comic 'The Killing Joke' (downloadable on piratebay) and you'll have to read 'through' the story, if you know what I mean. You will then lean to understand what those two characters mean for eachother in a very psychotic way.... It truly is one of the best batman stories ever written
