The joker is meant to be a creation that is like Batman only that in that the joker lost all he had. He's the batman with just one bad day added in where he lost everything that he loved. He was given that one last push that killed who ever he was.

Batman is still Bruce because he never lost everything but the joker had nothing in the past. They were both nobody till they added one more push. Batman's push made him the Batman and yet he was able to put the cape away and remain Bruce at the end of the night. But the joker's final push made him push back in every way he had been pushed. Because if the joker ever stopped pushing back he would return to that shell he was as the early full on emptiness and despair.

The joker is who he is because the alternative is to be nothing at all. And it is the world biggest joke that he is something from nothing. And nothing all the same.

there is many backstories for joker.the most common one was that he was a comedian who got into trouble and had to pose as a robber.he then got thrown into a vat of chemical acids that turned him ******* insane and his skin to the color it is now.

other stories place him as a gangster who went insane or just gangster who uses clown gimmic.

the backstory varies from time to time and none of these are "official" backstory for him.

Well all we know is that his wife was pregnant, and he being a comedian needed ends to meet, so he agreed to a sabotage operation or something of that caliber. At the last minute he tried backing out, but the thugs wouldn't let him. His wife and child died, and he fell into the vat and became who we know as the Joker.

Perhaps one of the saddest parts of the Joker was the fact that there WAS actually a time when he was a normal man trying to live a normal life.

Seeing glimpses of that past somehow brings understanding that a killer with no motive or connection could ever have.

For me, one of these sad inner-Joker moments was when he killed Sarah Gordon.

She had a gun on him, but when she dropped it to save an infant, he shot her with a cold "Merry Christmas." Oddly enough, the Joker found no humor in this murder and even surrendered himself to the police. Seeing him sad and contemplative like that after what would normally be a typical event was actually a bit moving.

User avatar #200 to #129 - blackfalcon (05/02/2013) [-]
batman is just leaning on the joker, to not fall while laughing.
After all they've both gone through, they are now like friends to eachother, at least for this one moment.
then with the coming of the police cars, they both realise what they must do. the Joker gets arrested and batman leaves...

If you are a batman fan, you must read this comic 'The Killing Joke' (downloadable on piratebay) and you'll have to read 'through' the story, if you know what I mean. You will then lean to understand what those two characters mean for eachother in a very psychotic way.... It truly is one of the best batman stories ever written

There's a couple different origin stories. In The Killing Joke, which this excerpt is from, He was double crossed by the Red Hood Gang during a job on a chemical plant. Under the shock of getting shot at, betrayed, losing his wife(or fiancé, it's been awhile) and getting mutated(hence his coloration) he snapped and became the criminal genius we all know and love.

Oh I found the joke, bro.

See, there were these two guys in a lunatic asylum... and one night, one night they decide they don't like living in an asylum any more. They decide they're going to escape! So, like, they get up onto the roof, and there, just across this narrow gap, they see the rooftops of the town, stretching away in the moon light... stretching away to freedom. Now, the first guy, he jumps right across with no problem. But his friend, his friend didn't dare make the leap. Y'see... Y'see, he's afraid of falling. So then, the first guy has an idea... He says 'Hey! I have my flashlight with me! I'll shine it across the gap between the buildings. You can walk along the beam and join me!' B-but the second guy just shakes his head. He suh-says... He says 'Wh-what do you think I am? Crazy? You'd turn it off when I was half way across!

Batgirl 13-15
Catwoman 13-15
Suicide squad 14-15
Batman and robin 15-16
detective comics 15-16
nightwing 15-16
red hood 15-16
