This is my dog, Ginger.

Four years ago, she was hit by a car. Somehow, during one of the windstorms the other evening, one of the gates to our backyard had become open. Unknowingly, we let her outside to do her business. Next thing we know, we hear a car screech outside. Curious, we opened our front door to see what was going on, and on the ground of Ginger. You know, it's quite a sight to see your dog, something that you love very dearly, laying on the ground bloody broken and bruised. She wasn't dead, but she was unable to move.

I had to carry her in a towel on our car ride to the vet. They had to put her down.

pic related, it's her.

TL;DR - Dog was hit by car, I carried her bloody living body to vet, she was put down.

I know the feeling. Our current dog was hit by a car when she was still young (less than a year. She managed to chew her harness so that it broke and of course when I tried to catch her she thought I was just playing with her. Ran to the road just when car was coming by. The awful chill that went through my spine at that moment... It's not even possible to describe. Carried her inside in panic and off we went to see a vet on sunday evening. She survived with "only" slightly broken hip and some minor things.

tl;dr Our dog was hit by a car, got pretty injured but lives happily today at the age of 7, completely recovered.

Condolences on your tragic loss. I love my dogs very much as well. If I were in your situation I don't think I could let the guy who hit them walk away without a broken limb or two. Tell me, did you get a good swing in or two?
User avatar #138 to #137 - incest (05/02/2013) [-]
No. The woman got out of the car immediately, and she was sobbing. You know, after something like that, and the person actually gets out and apologizes and shares your grief, you can't find it in you to punch them.
User avatar #139 to #138 - dovahben (05/02/2013) [-]
I see your point, although I don't think I could have found it within my hot-headed self to logically access the situation. I can definitely say you handled that situation much better than I ever could. Good on you mate.

>Neighbors mistreat their dog, and their son abused her regularly before he moved out
>It's a black pit bull, so I assume animal control wouldn't help because it would go to a pound and be put down
>I routinely hop my fence when the neighbors are out and play with her, and usually feed her too since they seldom feed her more than three times a week, her entire life is on a six foot cable tide to a tree, she is never walked or let inside
>. Before she was tied up she would dig into my yard for my company and freedom
>She doesn't get along well with other dogs, either, so I didn't have the option to ask to own her since I own a small mutt
>This goes on for ten years, two months ago neighbors say they took her to vet
>She has cancer, has about fifty days left
>Neighbors aren't home for a week, like ******* usual
>I decide to hop the fence, cut her free, and take care of this weak mistreated dog so it can have some enjoyment in its last days
>Neighbors get back, don't bat an eye when it's missing, they figured it walked out somewhere and died
>I play with her every day, and she is let inside for what I think is the first time in years
>She gets a good two weeks, then it gets bad
>She's on her last day, I can tell, and my little dog is curled up right next to her
>She dies, eleven years old and only had a total amount of a month off her leash and taken care of properly
>Her name was Lucky

It's was pretty sad for me. If you want, I can explain further the pet services situation. I still hate my ******* neighbors for torturing the poor dog. At least they didn't introduce it to dog fighting.

tl;dr I took care of my neighbors abused dog for a month when I heard it was going to die of cancer, and gave it a good few weeks.

I've had to do this 3 times in my life. No worse feeling, even losing some of my family members, because you are there with them as they go. It is ******* horrible. This is a pic of my late Rottweiler Jake, had him for 15 years, rescued him from being chained to a water heater in a basement, loved him with all my heart. I was with him as he passed, i have never cried again like I did that day. Rest In Peace buddy, I still miss you

Anyone remember that pet food recall in 2007? That's how my german shepherd/collie mix died. We got her from a shelter when she was only about six months old, but it was clear she had been abused before that. You couldn't pet her back and if you even slightly raised your voice, she would hide. One day she was fine, the next she just wasn't the same. We took her to the vet only to find out that her kidneys were basically failing. We knew what had to be done and scheduled the day. I went to school and just stared at the clock until 10:30 then I knew she wasn't in pain anymore. Years of her protecting us, making us feel better, and just being great and after all she had been through in her 12 year life and the best thing we could give her was putting her out of her misery? That ******* sucks. She started out her life being abused by humans and her life was ended by negligent humans despite being rescued. That pisses me off. I only hope that we made her happy enough in the 11 1/2 years that we had her. I miss you, Nikki. (Not her but its basically what she looked like)
