This is my dog, Ginger.

Four years ago, she was hit by a car. Somehow, during one of the windstorms the other evening, one of the gates to our backyard had become open. Unknowingly, we let her outside to do her business. Next thing we know, we hear a car screech outside. Curious, we opened our front door to see what was going on, and on the ground of Ginger. You know, it's quite a sight to see your dog, something that you love very dearly, laying on the ground bloody broken and bruised. She wasn't dead, but she was unable to move.

I had to carry her in a towel on our car ride to the vet. They had to put her down.

pic related, it's her.

TL;DR - Dog was hit by car, I carried her bloody living body to vet, she was put down.

I know the feeling. Our current dog was hit by a car when she was still young (less than a year. She managed to chew her harness so that it broke and of course when I tried to catch her she thought I was just playing with her. Ran to the road just when car was coming by. The awful chill that went through my spine at that moment... It's not even possible to describe. Carried her inside in panic and off we went to see a vet on sunday evening. She survived with "only" slightly broken hip and some minor things.

tl;dr Our dog was hit by a car, got pretty injured but lives happily today at the age of 7, completely recovered.

No. The woman got out of the car immediately, and she was sobbing. You know, after something like that, and the person actually gets out and apologizes and shares your grief, you can't find it in you to punch them.

>Neighbors mistreat their dog, and their son abused her regularly before he moved out
>It's a black pit bull, so I assume animal control wouldn't help because it would go to a pound and be put down
>I routinely hop my fence when the neighbors are out and play with her, and usually feed her too since they seldom feed her more than three times a week, her entire life is on a six foot cable tide to a tree, she is never walked or let inside
>. Before she was tied up she would dig into my yard for my company and freedom
>She doesn't get along well with other dogs, either, so I didn't have the option to ask to own her since I own a small mutt
>This goes on for ten years, two months ago neighbors say they took her to vet
>She has cancer, has about fifty days left
>Neighbors aren't home for a week, like ******* usual
>I decide to hop the fence, cut her free, and take care of this weak mistreated dog so it can have some enjoyment in its last days
>Neighbors get back, don't bat an eye when it's missing, they figured it walked out somewhere and died
>I play with her every day, and she is let inside for what I think is the first time in years
>She gets a good two weeks, then it gets bad
>She's on her last day, I can tell, and my little dog is curled up right next to her
>She dies, eleven years old and only had a total amount of a month off her leash and taken care of properly
>Her name was Lucky

It's was pretty sad for me. If you want, I can explain further the pet services situation. I still hate my ******* neighbors for torturing the poor dog. At least they didn't introduce it to dog fighting.

tl;dr I took care of my neighbors abused dog for a month when I heard it was going to die of cancer, and gave it a good few weeks.

Listen Huffe...
When we have a pet, even if it's a ******* GOLDFISH, we develop a trust and love to it. It's the same thing with a child or other loved one. I'm pretty sure you've had a mother or father. So, if your father or mother dies, just get a new one, correct?
Wrong.
It's not like I can just walk into a pet shop and say "ONE DOG PLEASE!" Live with it for 11-15 years, and then one day after it's been suffering finally pass away. I have lived with that dog for how long? When you consider most dogs are up for sale at around the age of 2-3 months, and die at around 12-14, 15 at the MOST. That's a long ass time.
It's not like an inanimate object. Even those you can get connected to. If I was given a sofa by my great grandfather at the age of 20 because it was stated I would get X-many dollars and etc. I would cherish it forever. When it suddenly breaks and a spring pops out one day, I'm going to be sad. And I can't just take it to a normal every day repair shop, this is a one of a kind item.
Just like every living thing is.
Every single tiny little organism has some meaning (Not includeing things like the bird-eating spider, they're just ******* useless)
Whether it be the size of a quark, to the size of the mightiest beast,
everything has a heart...

well, you can't really get a 'new' mother, because that would require me to be born again. i don't really love my cat, and i definitely don't trust it.
look i can see what you are trying to say, but i don't agree. at all. animals are pretty much like inanimate objects to me. most people too. i wouldn't be heartbroken if someone in my immediate family died.
the difference between a brown dog and a black dog to me, is about the difference between a brown and a black rock. they have the same atributes, except they look different. also, some of them respond to names.
what i am trying to say, is that the life of some guys dog, is about as insignificant to me as whether someone farted in china or not. and i don't want to see a ******* orgy of 'feels' (what the hell is that even supposed to mean?) on a site that is supposed to feature funny content

by real men I mean those that care about everyone, even though they do not know them.
sympathy is what we call it.
also, I dont think that you can kill a cactus.
and losing a dog you had for years and years, who probably have become a really big part of your life is not something you can just replace with a new one, or compare to a cactus for that matter.

sympathy is a pretty useless thing. it achieves nothing unless you are in direct contact with the subject in question. empathy however, can help you to make others' situations better.
and if that is your definition of a real man, there are approximately 0 real men in the world, because nobody cares about everybody.

Anyone remember that pet food recall in 2007? That's how my german shepherd/collie mix died. We got her from a shelter when she was only about six months old, but it was clear she had been abused before that. You couldn't pet her back and if you even slightly raised your voice, she would hide. One day she was fine, the next she just wasn't the same. We took her to the vet only to find out that her kidneys were basically failing. We knew what had to be done and scheduled the day. I went to school and just stared at the clock until 10:30 then I knew she wasn't in pain anymore. Years of her protecting us, making us feel better, and just being great and after all she had been through in her 12 year life and the best thing we could give her was putting her out of her misery? That ******* sucks. She started out her life being abused by humans and her life was ended by negligent humans despite being rescued. That pisses me off. I only hope that we made her happy enough in the 11 1/2 years that we had her. I miss you, Nikki. (Not her but its basically what she looked like)
