I would love it if the Netherlands would join Scandanavia, we also should get rid of the euro and get a different currency together with nothern europe.

I dunno why but every American I meet think Denmark is the capital of the Netherlands
#280 to #275 - anonymous (05/01/2013) [-]
Don't you dare tell me that is isn't. I've lived my whole live believing that it was, and I don't think I could handle the shock.

Hmm, I always thought it was the ocean that the river Styx eventually turns into. But then it would be Hell-sinkey.

i know its much more fun to say americans are just stupid, but as a european, i think it's important to see both sides. usa is the third biggest country in the world and bigger the almost whole europe combined, so naturally, much of the geography knowledge will be about their own country. for instance, i don't know half the state capitals in the US or what the main difference between montana and north dakota is. that beeing said, most americans have european heritage and america as we know it today didn't "start" until 1492 (no disrespect to the native americans, but you get my point) so our history is also your history and therefore important to learn.

TL;DR make love, not war
User avatar #257 to #253 - puggles (05/01/2013) [-]
there's a difference between montana and the dakotas?

Finland isn't actually part of Scandinavia, it's part of Fenno-Scandia
User avatar #212 - whothefuckcares (05/01/2013) [-]
Why is the American character always the biggest, most physically fit guy in these comics? Shouldn't he be morbidly obese? Inb4 Americans aren't all overweight. (BTW I am American.)
User avatar #220 to #212 - yunoknow (05/01/2013) [-]
i think its to describe the country's overpowering military strength.
and finland has that knife because of its glorious war record.

I believe he's supposed to be a Jersey Shore kind of character. Hence the tanned skin and the blonde hair
#249 to #214 - nshx (05/01/2013) [-]
Nah, the author said that America was white once, but the rising democraphic of latino citizen already surpassed the caucasian, so she turned America into a tanned buff guy.
User avatar #215 to #214 - whothefuckcares (05/01/2013) [-]
Dammit. Jersey Shore has pretty much ruined Americas reputation for all other countries. Well, they just helped it along even more I suppose -_-
#225 to #215 - anonymous (05/01/2013) [-]
Eh... I don't think - and I might be wrong - that Yersey Shore... ruined Americas reputation.

Let's use cake... Fat people like cake.

If Cake is Americas reputation. America is the fat kid who smashed the cake into his face since 1776 till... Well the fat kid is still eating the plate and is working on the table the cake stood on. Yersey Shore is then the nabour kid who heard about the party but was not invited. BUT HE'S THERE, don't get me wrong... He just didn't have alot to do with the whole "cake eating"...

Get it?
User avatar #294 to #225 - Rockaman ONLINE (05/01/2013) [-]
Trust an American to use cake as the analogy!

Soz, couldn't resist it! :P

People give America such a bad rep about not knowing the names of other countries, but you have to remember that America has 50 states which are kind of like a country all on their own.
User avatar #287 to #176 - skinless (05/01/2013) [-]
half Europeans probably can't even state half the states
#265 to #176 - omeglekjekkasen (05/01/2013) [-]
How is that relevant? I can't speak for the rest of Europe, but in Norway we have to learn all the states in america as well as all the countries and capital cities of Europe. Don't trick yourself into believing that knowing all the states is somehow close to your maximum limit for learning. It's not.
User avatar #237 to #176 - ivoryhammer (05/01/2013) [-]
And we're required to learn all 50 states and the capital cities and when they were founded.
#234 to #176 - anonymous (05/01/2013) [-]
Not an excuse, I've never even been to the US but I could name a lot of the states, I think most westerners can.
#230 to #176 - anonymous (05/01/2013) [-]
Very true. The United States is over twice the size of the entire European union in landmass. In fact, it isn't much smaller than the entire continent of Europe. The average US state is fairly close in size to the average European country.

Ever been to Texas?I swear they think they are their own [url deleted] offence intended to any Texans that come across this.
#191 to #176 - anonymous (05/01/2013) [-]
True. I wouldn't think that Scandinavians would be capable of naming cultural regions of the USA either. For instance: New England, the South, or the Tri-State Area.

alright fun test! Who here can name all the countries in the Americas! Ready? Simply state your origin country and list away, remember no cheating it's alright if you can't get them all so long as you try.
User avatar #185 to #158 - QCGunslinger (05/01/2013) [-]
Alright, let's try this without cheating, but I must say, I'm pretty good in general knowledge and such.

Country of origine: Canada

North American Country: USA, Mexico, Canada.

South American Country: Panama, Uruguay, Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil.

I think I missed like 2 or 3 in the ************ of countries in the North-West corner of the map right next to Brazil, but I can't remember at all. :/
User avatar #192 to #185 - QCGunslinger (05/01/2013) [-]
Just saw the previous comment of Oceanmist, apparently I missed the Carribean ones :( Altough I know that Greenland is Danish land and Iceland is European.)

Also, I've read that a lot of fellas here are saying that people from other countries than the USA don't know the name of the 50 states, so I'll give it a shot!

1. Maine 2. Connecticut 3. New Hamphire 4. New York 5. Massachussetts 6. Iowa 7. Ohio 8. Rhode Island (?) 9. Texas 10. Arkansas 11. New Mexico 12. California 13. Oregon 14. West Virgina 15. East Virgina 16. North Dakota 17. South Dakota 18. Michigan 19. Ilinois 20. Louisiana 21. Florida. 22. Alaska 23. Hawai 24. Minnesota 25. Wyoming 26. Colorado 27. Nevada 28. North Carolina 29. South Carolina aaaaand...

Jeez, I thought I was better at this. Isn't the District of Columbia one of the states? Just to be clear, I heard about every states, but can't remember the 20 others from the top of my head right now (no offense to any americans living in those, I love y'all too, I'm just tired and my memory sucks)
#198 to #192 - anonymous (05/01/2013) [-]
You did very well, and I'm proud of you for going the extra mile with the states.
#195 to #192 - oceanmist (05/01/2013) [-]
MFW East Virginia. Also we don't count District of Columbia as a state. Don't ask me why, I guess all the states fought over who would get the capital so mom said nobody could have it.
#197 to #195 - QCGunslinger (05/01/2013) [-]
Let me guess: I doubt on Rhode Island, but name a non-existant state out of nowhere? :P

User avatar #201 to #197 - oceanmist (05/01/2013) [-]
Yeah you got Rhode Island, which is actually kinda impressive, but there's no East Virginia, just Virginia and then West Virginia.

Why thanks, now I'll never get it wrong again!
User avatar #168 to #158 - fireprincess (05/01/2013) [-]
Country of origin: United states

North America: U.s. and Canada

South America: Mexico, Argentina, Panama(?),

I forgot everything I learned in school when I got to south America. Damn, I'm an idiot. All well, I always sucked at geography anyway.
