I'm sure there is more to it than that but I managed to tear through mine pretty easily with a metal file.

Someone else told me they would chip away in a few weeks and blah blah. But the first time I ever filed my teeth I was 12, I am now 19. The only downside so far is that from some angles they don't look pointed and since I got rid of enamel they are slightly more sensitive.
Also my dentist said nothing about it except "ohmy, can I take a photo?"

Your dentist needs to be reported to the state board of dentistry then.

Why?
What could he have done exactly?
"I am now required by law to give you caps"

No but he could have said "That wasn't smart, removing your enamel makes your teeth far more sensitive and can cause various issues down the line such as further corrosion."

You are lucky that where you filed is not cavity prone though, otherwise you'd be having crowns and root canals within a year or two tops.

When I had sat down in the chair and he saw them and asked if I filed them I told him I already knew all that before he could say it.
Look at Lizard Man, he had his filed by a dentist and nothing is wrong. As well as all the indian/african tribal rituals where they file teeth.

Idk how many people with filed teeth you have met (I have met none) but you lose enamel in many different ways and just losing enamel will not automatically cause cavities. I'd have to stop brushing my teeth twice a day and eat only sugar and other **** .

I'm not saying that I did it because of them, I'm saying it's a ritual in some places and has been for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and there are no adverse effects because of it.

Many people just assume that filing your teeth will lead to cavities because you are ridding yourself of enamel and opening them up to the possibility of that happening.
But it's no worse than most people who grind their teeth and do not realize, it has the same exposure as that. I have 2 canines that are chipped (left side of the first photo) and they hurt more than my filed teeth and they have been chipped since I was like 10.
