Oceania is the continent.
The other continents are: Eurasia, North America, South America, Africa and Antarctica.
The more you know.

Australia is situated right on top of the Australian tectonic plate, meaning that there is no fault line across any of the actual land. So no, there are no volcanoes trying to kill Australians, just everything else.

there are still active faults and potentially active volcanoes....a quake in the 1970s killed a bunch of people in New South Wales

Also the lava beds in Northern Queensland near Townsville are only a couple thousand years old which is pretty much yesterday from a geological PoV

TL;DR still plenty of potential for earthquakes and volcanoes on Australia's east coast

Why would a geologist be studying a university, isn't that more of an anthropologists/sociologists job?

Also a major fault line underneath Adelaide. Is apparently overdue for a major earthquake. I'm still waiting though...

If its talking about the country of Australia, there are some dormant ones that haven't erupted in a couple thousand years and it is still predicted that they can erupt again. The picture is Mt. Gambier which is one of the volcanoes that is thought to be overdue.

However, if it's talking about the continent, which is Oceania, then it's completely false. It's a volcano paradise on the Pacific rim, called the Ring of Fire. Oceania includes most of the islands in the Pacific Ocean which are made by volcanoes that are still active today. Those islands have volcanoes because they are made by the volcano. Volcanoes can spawn randomly there because of the very active subduction zones of the Pacific plate towards other plates., and that's why there are random islands in the Pacific. (Australia was a piece of the Pangea, not Ring of Fire.)

this is true. it's a misconception that oceania is a continent. a continent is a landmass only. it is not a series of islands. it's why england sort of kind of isn't apart of europe. australia is a continent, oceania is just the label put to this entire region that is south of southeast asia.
