I'm a little confused by the context. "It's goes against Oscar tradition". What does that mean? Like, the host/announcer can't win the award? Or are they giving him a pity Oscar or something?

Wrong, it goes against Tradition to give Leo an Oscar. I think it's in the bylaws somewhere.

I imagine his father telling him he'll never win anything. "Why don't you play baseball??" His dad would say. "I wish to act, father!" Leo would reply. "I'll be good, I'll be great, I swear I will!"

Years later, he jumps on the cast of Titanic. He plays a lover boy, one of the best known romances of all time. "Are you happy, Dad?" "Where," he spat, "is your reward?" Later, Leo joins Inception. It is recognized as a masterpiece, genius, and one of the best movies of the decade. "Surely, now I will win."

Leo sat at the award show. "Are you watching, Dad? Are you watching my moment?" And alas, his name was not called. In shock, Leo claps but begins crumbling inside.

I like the Great Gatsby a lot, but from the previews, that movie looks really bad.

Why would I say I like it if I've never read it? Whether or not YOU think it's meant to be good is completely beside the point. I think it's great and enthralling. There's no reason it can't be both to someone. On top of that, I only said the previews looked bad. I have no idea how the movie will be. This isn't me saying I won't still go watch it. It just doesn't look interesting in movie form.

And aside from that, I'm worried about how much they're going to have to cut to fit it into a movie. It's always worrying when Hollywood turns a book you like into a cinematic. I'm not sure how much I can say on this before I start sounding pretentious, but the book are almost always better than their movie counterparts. It's hard to fit everything that makes a book great into the span of two hours or so.

I also don't know why I was thumbed down. Obviously it's an opinion based off little evidence. Does that mean I'm not allowed to make an opinion or a prediction? God forbid. I'm not saying it WILL be bad; only that the previews look bad. They might just not be doing it justice.

Sorry for the rant. I'm pissed today and this was a good way to help vent.

I just think the music is going to be bad. I don't think anyone wanted Jay-Z to score The Great Gatsby.

There are some pop/R&B songs that I dislike but somehow work quite well, particularly the intro to No Church In The Wild from the first trailer (not in TOS)

but Jack White, Lana Del Ray and Florence's contributions are very fitting, despite being modernized. Then again, modernization of old stories is what Baz does best.

Fitzgerald and Luhrmann fan so really Great Gatsby is a match made in heaven.

Ok well what about Romeo and Juliet? Same director as TGG and is the most famous love story ever told. There have already been 4 TGG adaptations. If awards were given to popular books then Twilight would be on every film students syllablus.

Romeo + Juliet was a re-imagining, a bad one at that. And Gatsby is a classic.

They are made by the exact same director. You can have an amazing actor but if the director is **** you'll get a ****** performance. Baz is fun but ultimately not great at controlling his actors. Even with Scorsese, Tarantino and Ridley Scott on his side Leo didn't win anything. There are tons of films adapted from classic books that didn't win anything anyway.

Great Gatsby is coming out this year, and it looks like the kind of film that sweeps up a few Oscars. It may just be, and I don't want to jinx it, but it may actually be Leo's year.
