i stopped caring, no one in class cared either because i always seemed half asleep. so they assumed that i had gotten it while i was asleep, and not from the beautiful asses in front of me, in the yoga pants.

Honestly, I'm a high school teacher and I don't understand why teachers pull that crap. I just take the college teacher approach and don't say anything when students walk in late (Unless they're really late and do it all the time, then I'll talk to them after class). But really if you're late it's your own problem, you're the one getting marked tardy and missing the lecture intro, I'm not your parents.

What do you teach? I'm assuming most like the power and authority that comes with the job.
User avatar #33 to #30 - theJENK (04/27/2013) [-]
Right now I teach photography but I'm currently also going to school to get my degree in physics so I can teach science too.

The reason I love teaching high school is not because I like the authority, it's because I genuinely love sharing knowledge and explaining things to people, and I chose high school, probably because I never really stopped being a high school kid myself, even after 5+ years of college. I just don't get along with adults, they're too stupid and arrogant. At least teenagers have an excuse for not knowing stuff. They still have hope to become intelligent, free thinkers.
User avatar #35 to #33 - kaiizel (04/27/2013) [-]
Funny, my photography teacher is like you. The best teachers are those who are down to earth and can relate more with the students rather than thinking they deserve respect because they are superior. I'd like to become a teacher in the field of the arts as a career also. =]

"I just don't get along with adults, they're too stupid and arrogant."

Everyone's stupid and arrogant though, and high schoolers are the angriest demographic out there, which probably doesn't go well with that. I'd also like to think that since photography students aren't typically the smartest, you're probably getting some of the more arrogant types.
User avatar #40 to #37 - theJENK (04/28/2013) [-]
It's different with high schoolers. Their brains are still being developed, they have crazy hormonal imbalances, and they're always tired and grumpy, but they still have hope. They aren't going out and running the country yet, or being assholes to their children, or being assholes to people in other countries. Yeah sometimes high school kids ARE stupid and arrogant, but my point is, there's still time to FIX them. Adults are pretty much stuck that way.

So true my high school had 5 minutes in between classes and some classes were a solid 3-4 minute walk. One can not properly use the bathroom with this scenario

Warning, rant inbound:

I wish that in the real world, teachers could actually be fired for incompetence even if they've been with an institution for a while. I've currently got a C in my Gen Chem class of 25 partly because my professor literally hasn't given a single lecture over the course of the entire semester, preferring instead to just make us fill out the workbook activity for the day. The guy literally just giggles at you like you're a dumbass for a few seconds when you ask for clarification on anything, and even his explanations tend to consist of "Oh, just go back and check the workbook, you'll find it somewhere." I and all the other students that have this guy get nothing out of this class other than what we can find online and in the workbook, whilst the other section was blessed with a fantastic professor that actually helps them learn chemistry, and he does it just because he wants to help students out (he's ******* loaded and doesn't care much about the money he brings in from teaching). I know I may just sound like some frustrated high schooler trying to find some explanation for a bad grade, but unfortunately I've found that there are just some horrible professors out there who just don't really care at all. Rant over.

You know, you can complain to the principal, they have the power to set him straight.

True, but its very unlikely that any disciplinary action would be taken, especially at a liberal arts college like the one I attend. I've filled out a particularly negative yet reasonable review of him to be sent to the DJ 4DM1Nistration, but that's probably not going to have any sort of real impact.

It just sucks because everyone knows this guy is a **** teacher, yet students are still going to have to endure him, typically at the price of their love for chemistry. I know that, at least for me, I may now decide against a chemistry major and just stick with physics and mathematics because I don't know if I could handle multiple other courses with this guy unless I wanna risk my GPA.

That reminds me of my art teacher, she tells us all to go out side and collect leaves, twigs, rocks, etc to create a sculpture. We all went back in the class after we were done and I notcied what i collected wasn't enough so i asked her if i could go back outside and she says "Sure". I came back and then ask her if I could leave once more and she says "You could the class to get whatever you want you don't have to ask me." then I come back and leave this time without asking. The second i come back she says " Where were you?! You can't just leave without me knowing!"

I had this one history teacher in high school who was extremely strict when it came to being late. Except the thing was, she was only strict to certain people, and then other ones who she really liked she let get away with it. One day, this one kid came into class 30 minutes late. She asked him what could have possibly made him be that late. He was just like, "well, i fell asleep in my free period and i didn't hear the bell." The teacher was just like, ok take your seat and don't let it happen again. A few weeks after that, I stayed a little after in my previous class to ask the teacher a question, and than caused me to be like, 2 minutes late to the history teacher's class. She flipped her **** and demanded why I was late, and by this time I was sick of her biased ******** and just said, "Why do you care? I didn't miss anything and you are still getting payed, so why does it matter?" I got detention but it was worth it.

I usually say, "I'm just late" but one time a teacher was obviously in a bad mood and wouldn't accept that.
"What do you mean?" (I hate it when teachers say this, they always say this as if I was speaking a different language, when it's pretty obvious what I mean, but anyway)
"I was just a bit slow getting up and getting ready and I missed the bus..."
"Well, that's a bit of an odd excuse, so you'll be seeing me for an hour after school." (I am late maybe once every 2 months so when teachers talk to me like the guys who are late every lesson I get pissed off, and I was only about 5 mins late anyway.)
"That was a perfectly normal excuse, and this is maybe the second time I'm late so I don't see why I am staying behind for an hour"
"HOW DARE YOU COME IN HERE LATE, TALKING TO ME AS IF YOU HAVE A SAY IN WHO I GIVE DETENTIONS TO! GO AND WAIT OUTSIDE!"
So I go out and I'm waiting in the corridor and she comes out to have a word with me and asks me why I am being a disruption to her lesson, and I'm telling her that the only disruption I intended was coming in late and I was only questioning why I was being treated like someone that is late all the time, but then I was explaining my excuse and she was high or something as she couldn't grasp my excuse for being late, so I ended up staying behind for an hour.
#15 to #11 - anon (04/27/2013) [-]
in that situation i would have walked away. if "I woke up late and missed the bus" didn't work and it was serious I would support my childs decision to leave and tell me what happened. **** people like this man. you want to be a teacher? then dont treat your students like **** .
User avatar #47 to #15 - umaya (04/28/2013) [-]
From there on I would wait until the end of the 15 minute sign in/ tutorial thing in the library or toilets and go to first lesson, or just wait until the next lesson entirely if I was really late. So basically by being even more late I would avoid a detention.

That always annoys the **** out of me.

"So, what, you think the start times are just a suggestion?!"
"If I really thought that, I wouldn't have bothered SPRINTING HERE ONCE I FOUND OUT I WAS LATE!"

Seriously, within the first 10 minutes of anything is just miscalculating your morning routine, yet everyone treats it like you looked at the clock and said "Pff, **** you man!" If that were the case, I wouldn't even be at class.
