I like piracy.
I download an album. If I like it I buy it if I don't I delete it.
The days of me paying for a cd just because I might like one or two of the songs on it are over. Now only artist who make quality music get my money.
I like piracy.
#109 to #41 - anon (04/27/2013) [-]
Thats good, except most people dont even bother to pay for things they DO like.

this is such a ******** thing to say

Actually a study showed that piracy provided a small boost to sales

I'd like to point out to everyone that this isn't saying pirating magically increases sales. It's saying that a lot of people who pirate do so with the intention of buying something if they like it.

a lot of underground bands only put out between 15-200 copies of a release, and those get sold out fast usually. I've bought a few of those. Most people then either download it or go to their bandcamp page. They still bank in the end because the majority of their merch does get sold in the end.

Wow. I have spent years enraged at people who condense the words "a" and "lot" to form the abortion that is "alot." And now you have taken this cancerous grammatical idiocy one step further in creating "allot." For the sake of the English language, I hope that is a typo.

#84 to #60 - anon (04/27/2013) [-]
Not to sound like a dick, but if Tupac and Biggie were still alive they'd either be out of the music industry or they'd be hated like Lil' Wayne for one reason or another. Generally it's the people that think musicians were always better in their early years and think their new material is always **** .

In-reality, Tupac\Biggie would've probably had a few songs feat Lil' Wayne just because at one point he was on top of the music industry, and labels want big names to feature songs with other big names to make more money.
User avatar #82 to #60 - thequickster (04/27/2013) [-]
I may be wrong, but Lil Wayne did go to college? In fact, I believe he had really outstanding grades. Some of his music is actually pretty good but as the years go by and you listen to his recent songs, they do pretty much suck.
#86 to #82 - anon (04/27/2013) [-]

As far as mainstream rap goes, why would I contribute to an artist who will just use that money to make more "music" bragging about how much money he has, how many bitches he ***** , and how many drugs he does. Point being, if you have enough money to brag about how much money you have (and expect people to pay you to listen to that), you don't need more.

And a lot of good music isn't always available for purchase, thus you need to "commandeer" it.

Just my two cents.

"We dont need you money flomey domey" or what the **** that bitch sings. then i think to myself , "well if she doesnt need my money, then the song must be free" and i go on itunes to check..the song costs normal price..Wtf Bitch, dont sing you dont need our money if youre gonna take money for your ******* songs...I guess the bitch needs money but the ones who hear it doesnt and should give it to her. I hate new music.

Well I wouldn't call him an artist because art is using ones own creative skill and imagination to make something by definition and Drake doesn't write most of his songs.

I don't like the Beatles, but I'd still call them artists.
#157 to #138 - crosskill (04/27/2013) [-]
Except that he does write his own songs. Sure he gets help from others, like 95% of all rappers do. But Drake always has a finger in writing the songs though, there's no denying that.
#158 to #157 - songs (04/27/2013) [-]
Songs? im here
User avatar #166 to #157 - trimageryan (04/27/2013) [-]
He has a finger in writing them, but that doesn't mean he writes them. It's like if I were to hand Michelangelo paint brushes every now and again and claiming I painted the Sistine Chapel.

As I said though, art is using ones own creative skill and imagination. If someone relies on others to do the brunt of the work they, by definition, can't be called an artist, only a performer.
#173 to #166 - crosskill (04/27/2013) [-]
Okay then, let me ask you this, which rappers do you figure is an artist then?
User avatar #181 to #173 - trimageryan (04/27/2013) [-]
One who writes at least the majority of their own songs. Artist isn't a subjective term, I may not like them but if they make what they sing they are artists, if not they are just performers. Not to say being a performer is a bad thing, there's still something to be said about the performance it's self, it's just not art.
#184 to #181 - crosskill (04/27/2013) [-]
I agree with you, for the most part, but you still haven't answered my question though. Is there any rappers you deem "artists" ?
User avatar #185 to #184 - trimageryan (04/27/2013) [-]
Personally I don't care much for rap so I can't give a name, but I feel I've answered your question by saying that it's any of them that write the brunt of their music.
#187 to #185 - crosskill (04/27/2013) [-]
I feel like you're giving me the runaround, but okay then, it's not like I'm trying to change your opinion, I simply wanted answers. Have a nice day.
User avatar #139 to #138 - shadowoflife (04/27/2013) [-]
You and I know that that's not why the majority of people here are saying that **** though.
User avatar #141 to #139 - trimageryan (04/27/2013) [-]
Oh of course, it's a simple matter of extreme self righteousness mixed with pure adolescent racism. I just thought I'd throw my two sense in why I personally would not call him an artist.
