Because most often you waste people's time with something entirely irrelevant. Plus it's unoriginal and just gets plain old when it's literally the only thing you do.

Hitler. Did. Nothing. Wrong.
Germany only lost the war and the post-war anti-German propaganda ****** up the country. Look at what's being done to you and your heritage. The concept of German Guilt has become the new state religion. Your heroes are being dishonored, criminals are made to be saints, your nation and your heritage is being erased.

Personally I respect German culture more than I do any other european culture. If you look at German history, starting with the creation of the Prussian kingdom, you guys go from a pretty insignificant Holy Roman Empire state to most powerful german kingdom in like only a few decades thanks to Fredrick the Great. Then you guys unified everything thanks to Bismarck. Germany as a country is like a thousand years younger than France or England but ****** up every other European country for a while. And even with Hitler i say Germany is the most badass european state

I'm not ashamed at all of it. I mean we're the most powerful country in the EU, and about the 4th to 5th most powerful country in the world (France is #8).
But it is true, both World Wars were started by Austrians.

Honestly, I think we're one of the best. What other country managed to rise up twice after loosing a World War to become more powerful than ever before.
And our economy is amazing. In terms of account balance/exports we're only second to China (which has more than 16 times our population), and managed to grow throughout the Eurocrisis, while other countries perished.

Also I think that despite our too christian government we are very tolerant. I mean what other country has a gay minister of external affairs (Unthinkable in the US).

It is sad how the only event where you get to really wave a german flag is football.

Actualy, the Austrians just wanted to start a local war with Serbia and have Germany's threats keep Russia out of the war, the German high command (without any consult from any political member of the German government) decided they needed to use this to create the larger conflict against France and Russia because if they let the huge but outdated Russian Military then the inevitable war with France and Russia (in their opinion inevitable) would be far harder.

Gif unrelated but funny

Austria was pressured by German imperialistic and "darwinist" (for lack of a better word)ambitions.

lol no. An extremist group in Serbia, The Black Hand, thought that Austria-Hungary was being too oppressive, so they assassinated the arch duke Franz Ferdinand. Then Austria-Hungary demanded that Serbia give them land and money. So Serbia called up big brother ally Germany, and said "Yo bro, Austria-Hungry is being a real douche. You should help me out" And then Germany declared war on AH, and then everybody dug trenches and threw mustard gas and chlorine at each other.

Okay, well I guess part of the war was Germany's radical new ways of ruling, vs. Britain's traditional conservative ways of ruling. But the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, was indeed the spark that started the war. I got jumbled up, i typed that late last night. I meant that AH called up Germany, and told on Serbia for killing their arch duke and then not agreeing to the ultimatum.

(04/27/2013) [-]
Yes, I will admit that the assassination was the trigger that sparked the global conflict.

However, Austria was pressured by the Germans to actually carry out the threat of war.
But then again, my view on the start of WWI is based off Fritz Fischer's argument so somebody else might have a different view.

Austria went to war with the Serbians over the assassination of Ferdinand.

Germany was already a superpower in Europe and the only reason Austria got up off their ass is because they knew Germany would have to help them.

Unless you can provide a good source for your claim it is not valid.

WWI would've broke out without the assassination of the duke.

We had a German exchange student in grade 10, his name was Kai. At the end of the year, we bunch of classes came together in the library to talk to the exchange students about their stay. Someone asked Kai what his favourite thing about Canada was, and he responded:

"I love that every morning you stand up for your national anthem. We don't do that in Germany, because we're not very proud of our history."

Kai would copy off me in French class, but that was cool. He tried to be all stealth about it at first, but I would just lean back and let him see since it was always for daily work that wasn't getting marked anyways. By the end of the year he would just get up and read over my shoulder.

The US got a lot to be ashamed at as well, but they seem to just be fine with being patriotic. Not saying Americans shouldn't be allowed to be proud of themselves, just saying that if America can be proud, so can Germany

... I can't tell if you think I'm saying Germans shouldn't be proud, so just to clarify that is not what I'm saying. I think it's sad he couldn't be proud of his country.

I'm canadian and I never sang the anthem, or heard it in real life, that must be because I'm not a big fan of sport, or it MIGHT be because the rest of Canada dislikes us I don't know...

In Denmark it's illegal to fly flags from other countries than Dannebrog (our national flag).

People cross the road at red lights even though it is illegal. It still is illegal but not every person knows it.

It is, however, legal to fly a foreign flag as a "Guest Flag" meaning that Dannebrog has to fly ABOVE the foreign flag (The Swedish for example). With that said I don't think it is that common that police comes and takes it down but I have heard it happen.

Yea but you must agree that You can't celebrate anything about Denmark without being called a racist. Say you love Denmark and they think your hitler. In my senior high school there are so many perkere/Muslims and they have banned many danish traditions. They ruin Denmark and I hate it, they won't go back to their own country even though its not war there anymore, they hate Denmark and Danes and love their own country but still they won't go back, They rape, steal, and more! Skide perkere!

I'm sad that we don't sing the German anthem, but happy we don't sing the bavarian one. (It starts: "God with you, land of the Bavarians. German soil, Fatherland. ... all be blessed by his hand" , aso. And in America they complain about the wprds "under god" in their pledge. In the Bavarian one, there is nothing BUT god.

a) I am Canadian, hence asking Kai his favourite thing about Canada.
b) Obviously we do sing it where I am from.
c) We don't say "aboot."

Strange, For some reason we don't do it everyday like that. Though for the big things like band concerts we do.

Ya I kinda know that... that was a joke on the Canadian stereotype -_-

What? That's ******* stupid. If they went to England, they have to accept that you sing your national anthem and/or fly your flag, because, well, its' your damn country. "Ugh, look at this racist bastards, singing their national anthem and waving their flags, in THEIR OWN COUNTRY, that's so offensive"

We had a similar situation. During Cinco de Mayo some kids were sent home for having the American Flag on their shirts.

Here when you're in elementary school or high school you have to stand for the anthem unless you're native (I won't get into those politics though). And you can fly whatever flag you want. My house has the Canadian flag, and flags for Newfoundland, since that's where my mom is from. I've seen houses and businesses with Canadian flags alongside other countries', or just another country's flags. Places like police stations will often have the national and provincial flag.

We're pretty chill about it.

Fact: Illegal to have another flag flying ABOVE the Canadian flag on the same pole, this Italian restaurant where I live got a big fine for doing so.

The only ones I've seen had them on different poles, or didn't have the Canadian flag at all, so I never gave it much thought.
