There's a theory that time travel would not be possible until the point after a time machine is invented. I get that sounds like "DUH" but what I mean is - if we gain the ability to travel through time, we can only go as far back as the invention of the first time machine, if one does not exist prior it becomes a paradox and impossibility, clearly shown by the fact we have no time travellers as of yet :D
#180 to #56 - anon (04/26/2013) [-]
why...?
User avatar #185 to #180 - graphically (04/26/2013) [-]
A lot of really good reasons.

From someone who obsessively delved into the mechanics of theoretical time travel. Just trust me, there's a lot of good reasons that would talk a really really long time to thoroughly explain.

As far as I was aware, time travel backwards through time is impossible.
User avatar #191 to #56 - tenmillionbears (04/26/2013) [-]
But wouldn't that be just like going back in time before you were born, except it would be going back before the first time traveler was "born"?
User avatar #194 to #191 - seedymack (04/26/2013) [-]
It's the machine that causes the issue, not the person - if time travel was possible we would be greeted by the travellers everyday in all likleyhood, but this theory provides us with the reasoning that if we were to invent a time machine that could fold the fabric of time and jump through different hot spots it would always be from machine to machine and that would be necessity for each journey. Hope that answers your question, otherwise I don't know what you were asking XD

Or maybe Stephen Hawking throws lame ass parties and they actually showed up in one time line and they all regretted it so they didn't do it again.

what if human did build time machine some time in the future, and sent a man and a woman into very distant past that the scientist actually had no idea how long, and then humanity started, with a man and a woman

what if humans build a time machine, and continue to mount their power until they reach the point where they seem like gods to modern day humans. Then they went to the past and create humans, and rule over them as the gods of mythology, eventually leaving/disappearing only to fall into myth and legend.

Explanation: They DID show up, but according to some time theory you can travel in time but cannot affect it. So, they did show up, but made no change to this time stream, but instead created a different universe where the party DID happen.
#130 - Metallicock (04/26/2013) [-]
This means no time travel ever
User avatar #171 to #130 - mattdoggy (04/26/2013) [-]
No evidence doesn't mean no existence.
Odds are if time travel does exist one of the number one rules would be not to tell anyone about it or do anything to directly influence it. The implications of announcing you were a time traveler could be detrimental to the time traveler and time traveler itself.
The explanation of which would take a few long posts and be confusing at best.
Basically time travel can't be announced and noted until it already exists lest a whole mess of paradoxes and time loops be created.
Also, it's not that far away, we can already travel forward in time by small amounts just by going fast. Some astronauts have jumped a few seconds in time basically.
Backwards time travel is possible but a lot more confusing and takes more resources than is available at the moment.
Have hope, maybe some day we can be time lords
#135 to #130 - UnoSkullmanx (04/26/2013) [-]
Not really. Time travel might be invented a thousand years from now. Chances are, that far in the future, nobody will even know who Hawking is, let alone that he threw a time traveler party.

if you travel back in time you will either appear in a vacuum and die in 1 and a half minutes or you merge with whatever molecules are at the place you traveled to and die instantly
