... isn't the main difference between the USA and Europe being that one is a country, the other a continent?

They're both land masses of similar sizes and population.

No, Europe techincally isn't a continent, it's a part of the eurasian continent. It is however, a large geografical area with several countries-

I've seen a lot of maps that depict stuff weirdly, such as Mexico being a North American country and Oceania being part of Asia, but what kind of map lists Eurasia as continent?

I made this point last time this was reposted and ill do it again. How can an american compare an entire continent , with thousands of years of history and culture , to a 230 year old country that was formed by the very same countries that they are trying to belittle!
I'm expecting red thumbs for this.

And i'm not trying to hate the U.S

You really need to just wind your neck in a little!

#293 to #128 - Rascal (04/24/2013) [-]
So if we don't spend countless hours researching a culture that we are not involved with we are ignorant masses? What does it matter to me who the first Prime Minister of England was? Our history is in George Washington and the Constitution. We Americans are proud of our country and you should be proud of yours.
User avatar #420 to #293 - coolcalx (04/24/2013) [-]
your comment doesn't even make sense with what he said.

but to counter you, no you aren't ignorant if you don't do research about other cultures. you ARE, however, ignorant if you try to argue about things that you don't know about, such as other cultures, if you haven't researched them.

While America does lack in the historical department, they are one of the main powers in making the history of today. It's not a "whose dick is bigger" competition. Huge achievements were made in both Europe and the USA. Without either of them the world would not be what it is today.

(I'm trying to speak from a neutral viewpoint, I'm from Europe).

Also, it seems to me that Americans are probably the most stereotyped of ALL nations. While in some regards they do live up to the reputation of fat stupid inbred rednecks, it might just be because those fat, stupid, inbred rednecks just get more media exposure in Europe.

If you leave cheese lying out for hundreds of years, it will grow a culture.

atleast we didn't nuke Japan twice
User avatar #418 to #317 - farfigsschitter (04/24/2013) [-]
Yes, because the US CLEARLY didn't have ANY reason or inclination to do that. Nevermind that a full-scale invasion of the Japanese mainland would've cost an approximate 1,000,000+ lives. Nevermind that at the time, the these people were teaching their wives and daughters back home how to sharpen bamboo poles and impale Allied soldiers. Nevermind that the actual bombing only claimed the lives of about 1/4 of the people that woud've died if the US hadn't.

NOPE SCREW THAT **** THE US DROPPED SOME BOMBS WHAT COMPLETE ASSHOLES

Lol, I blew air out of my nose when I saw Bush paired with FDR and Churchill (atleast that's who I think it is) paired with Hitler paired one of America's best leaders with one of the worse ones and same with Europe. We both have people or ideas to be proud of and other things not so much
User avatar #286 to #272 - philliyoMLB (04/24/2013) [-]
I would say FDR would be more related to Hitler, based on their use of power.
#305 to #286 - tyroneisanigger (04/24/2013) [-]
I can see where one would think that. But remember we voted for him, we could have chosen to get him out but we didn't.
He one four elections and the people like the guy in general. He had "fireside" chats over the radio to let people know what's going on, Most presidents nowadays address the nation as "my fellow Americans" or something, he addressed them as "My friends" during the radio chats. let's not forget he formed a **** ton of agencies, created the social security system for elderly, he created unemployment and on top of that, the most important and biggest reason why I personally think he was one of America's best presidents was he got America out of the depression during his first term in office, I believe it was either his first or second year too.
User avatar #330 to #286 - schneidend (04/24/2013) [-]
Yeah, that jerk FDR, creating welfare programs and building infrastructure so that nobody had to eat their shoes during the recent recessions. He's exactly like Hitler.

Well such as passing tons and tons of bills to try to help the economy without congress approval and using executive power, one can simply open a history book to know that.

Does anyone else find it odd that American schools don't talk about the Japanese Internment that often? Some don't even believe it happened and that it sounds silly that American's put all their Japanese citizens in Concentration camps.

User avatar #276 to #252 - xpurpledragonx (04/24/2013) [-]
Well the thing is that the words "concentration camp" is so dirty now because of the Nazis and others who haves used them. While the Japanese interment camps where far from concentration camps. Yes neither were ideal living conditions but at least the Japanese were treated wwwwaaaaaayyyyy better then any other "camps" around at the time.
#279 to #276 - codyxvasco (04/24/2013) [-]
But they were Concentration Camps, there's not way out of it. They weren't in any way Death Camps, or Labor Camps. But they were Concentration Camps.

User avatar #292 to #279 - xpurpledragonx (04/24/2013) [-]
Yes an that was the point of them, to concentrate those people to certain points so they could be watched. Because at the time we feared that there were Japanese spies or saboteurs that would aid in an Japanese invasion.
User avatar #299 to #292 - codyxvasco (04/24/2013) [-]
My neighbors are afraid that their house will be robbed by a Puerto Rican, that doesn't mean my Mother, Me, and everybody with Puerto Rican descent should have to go to a camp for about 4 years for no reason.
User avatar #306 to #299 - xpurpledragonx (04/24/2013) [-]
No but lets say you lived in Florida and there was a Puerto Rican uprising going on, And you also have some strong ties in Puerto Rico. Now you become suspect to help with the uprising. You see at the time not all the Japanese were taken to the camps, just most that had strong ties to their homeland or communicated very often with japan.
User avatar #310 to #306 - codyxvasco (04/24/2013) [-]

User avatar #322 to #310 - xpurpledragonx (04/24/2013) [-]
Yes, but lets say one family had been living in the US for 25 years and they let go of japan other then the letters they wrote to their grandparents or something, compared to a ex-military family who has be living there for 4 years that frequently has communication with Japan. The first family would be less likely to be sent to the camps. Everyone still had a chance to be taken anyways and if I correctly they were compensated in some way.
