User avatar #284 to #282 - luckiestcharms (04/23/2013) [-]
I'd say the equator is more in the centre. Anything along that midline would be considered the middle of the page.

It's to help people understand GMT better, with Greenwich being in London, London's in the middle of the world map
#73 to #25 - mansontrail (04/23/2013) [-]
UK's in the middle. If you know your history, you know why
User avatar #172 to #73 - emrakul (04/23/2013) [-]
they decided, "Hey, let's run the Prime Meridian straight through London!" and then the 180 meridian just happened to neatly dodge all major landmasses. Thus, England ended up in the middle.
User avatar #271 to #172 - thalfak (04/23/2013) [-]
The Prime Meridian goes though London because of an observatory there?
User avatar #293 to #172 - thebeastlyhound (04/23/2013) [-]
It is international date line. Sorry my OCD would have killed me if I hadn't done that.
User avatar #303 to #293 - emrakul (04/24/2013) [-]
The date line generally follows the 180 meridian, but that is mostly a coincidence because that happens to be the best place on the globe to put it, straight down the middle of the Pacific. It also is bent out of shape to follow national borders, so it does not exactly follow the meridian.
User avatar #304 to #303 - thebeastlyhound (04/24/2013) [-]
True but the most common name for it is the international date line

yes, and admittedly yeah some of us are racist, but it's hard not to be a little hostile to the thousand of immigrants flooding the country when you become a minority in your home town.

and for the most part we're tolerant and nice and multicultural but for real why do we let so many people immigrate when we already have a lack of housing and an unemployment problem.

I live in the USA, im a history major, so i use maps all the ******* time, and ive never once seen a map with america in the center.

Fun fact,

Most maps have England in the center, dating back to when the British Empire was the most powerful in the world. Same reason we use Greenwich time.

Now who is arrogant?
#159 to #40 - anon (04/23/2013) [-]
it's not arrogant because that is genuinely the smartest ******* way to make them u dumb ****

I think when your country is the size Britain is, managed to have an empire spanning most of the world and still be a major power in the world after handing most of said empire back, you have a right to be arrogant.

My town has the Meridian Line running through it. Not really important but i suppose it's something pretty cool.
