I wonder if you would be singing the same tune if that bomb went of in your hometown.

And before someone comments about how hundreds die from bombs in the middle east so it's ok to make jokes bout the Boston Marathon hours after it happened; I am sure that their aren't a spam load of jokes about those bombings.

The Boston Marathon jokes are not making fun of America, they're making fun of the three people that were killed, and over 175 people were injured; those injured are not just Americans but also spectators from other parts of the world.

I don't really care much about the bombing, but what I can't stand are the post saying "HURR HURR TAKE A JOKE AMERICA. HUNDREDS DIE AROUND THE WORLD"

rant done.

The explosion happened in my hometown, I still think it's perfectly fine to joke about it. True, I wasn't affected in any form, but I feel as though everyone needs to lighten up and realize that this is not the place to be sensitive to people dying. Hell, we have websites dedicated to watching people die in grotesque ways. One shouldn't draw the line simply because it happened in America, or anywhere for that matter. In instances like these, it's simply best to take a vacation away from the Internet, because the jokes are bound to be formed regardless.
User avatar #347 to #17 - lulusaurus (04/17/2013) [-]
Pretty sure the mass amount that commented when I was gone only read the top part of my comment only.

The point of my comment wasn't to say we should not make jokes about the Boston Marathon, but to call OP out on the fact that it's not American that are taking offence; many American's could care less.
#342 to #17 - John Cena (04/17/2013) [-]
Its not just people in boston whining. Plus, yes. Theres been murders in my hometown and I joke about them. Because Im not a hypocrite.

"I wonder if you would be singing the same tune if that bomb went of in your hometown."

i live in clackamas, a usual hang out spot for me and my friends is the clackamas town center, aka CTC

was i shocked when the shooting took place? nope, and as soon as i realized none of my friends or anyone i knew was there, i started cracking jokes about how bad a shot that guy was (i mean really, 60+ shots, only hits like 4 people? dafuq)

these events do not phase me, even if they take place in my home town

bombings in iraq, or even on the other side of the country, even less so

i'm not sure if that makes me cold, or just detached, but either way, no ***** are given

People sure vary on different posts, on this post your defensive opinion was thumbed up yet comments that were incredibly similar to yours on yesterdays post were savaged, I think it would just be better if I was to not comment my opinion at all even though this will get as many red thumbs as that would.

It's pretty much a joke about how American's think they're the center of the universe...
User avatar #288 to #17 - zanana (04/17/2013) [-]
I think people misunderstood what OP was getting at.

Basically what he's saying is that Americans don't give a single **** about people dieing in other countries. Do you know how many bombs went off in Afghanistan the day of the Boston marathon bombing? 27. That wasn't on any news channel, the injured and dead didn't have anyone mourning for them. How about that one time there was a drone strike in Pakistan? Oh wait that was more then once. I guess we'll just let it pass and act like nothing happened. But when it comes to the states everyone is expected to mourn and show sympathy? Why? What makes a bomb in the states different then one in the Middle east or any other country? Sure the people who died weren't all American citizens but still, I'm not saying make jokes about it.

What I'm trying to say is basically: If you're going to be all sympathetic towards people who lose their family members/friends/relatives in a catastrophe such as the Boston marathon then you can at least take note of all the other similar events going on in the world.

After 9/11 where nearly 3000 people died, it was not allowed to say anything remotely funny about that event for a long long time. Both the press and comedians self-censored, even those who always act as if they are politically incorrect. At the time, I was a huge fan of satirical news website "The Onion" and was surprised to see practically nothing about 9/11 there.

After the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami where >200,000 people died, there was a pretty weak and stupid joke about it on The Onion the very next day.

I am not saying that you should or shouldn't be allowed to make fun of this kind of stuff. I am just saying that many people have double standards, and the highest concentration of comedy-related double standards can be found in 'Murica.

A bomb got off in my home town. Literally in the town I was born. And people got killed. And it was because of the all Muslims against Jews thing, that the Americans meddle in. Google "2012 Burgas bus bombing". And many people in our forums made a lot of jokes. So **** you and your superiority complex.
#219 to #217 - John Cena (04/17/2013) [-]
So you're blaming Americans for your suicide bombers? Way to take respectability for your country's faults.
#204 to #17 - John Cena (04/17/2013) [-]
Doesnt matter what country you're from, its all fair game on the net. I bet you've laughed at or at least chuckled at starving children jokes, rape jokes, Amanda Todd jokes and all kinds of spineless jokes that are going to offensive to someone. Doesnt matter if it deserved to happen or not the fact is its tragic to someone and you've laughed at it. Just because this one affects your country it makes it becomes off bounds and we're supposed to not make jokes about it? Pfft. Grow up man, you're on the net if you dont like it get off it. Sorry if the Boston bombings affected you, but you cant expect people to not make jokes about. If it bothers you that much think about it like this, people often use humor to mask and cope with pain.

TLDR; Im not saying it is funny, its tragic. However just because it affects you its not off limits to rest of the world. Im damn well sure you've laughed at their problems, so why cant they laugh at yours?
User avatar #207 to #204 - lulusaurus (04/17/2013) [-]

It's just the thing where like the earthquake in Iran that killed hundreds that the Internet doesn't care about, and then there's the Boston Marathon bombings.
User avatar #195 to #192 - lulusaurus (04/17/2013) [-]
It's people like beren and op that blow the Boston Marathon out of proportions, I honestly would had never heard of what happen if it wasn't for the news uploads filled with post about it. And this is the first I heard of the earthquake in Iran; that must had been terrible.
User avatar #198 to #195 - symustafa (04/17/2013) [-]
It applies to the media too. They mention the earthquake, but thats it. Or when people get killed in Japan or Iraq no one really cares about it on the Internet. But when it happens on their doorstep, they get all defensive. Sad but true.

-I joke about everyone's misfortune and I'd do so if it happened in my hometown. I'm a bloody hypocrite and so is almost everyone on here including you and your White Knight Moral Compass brigade.

yeah well, i don't see people so concerned about "making fun of dead people" when there is a gif on morbid channel where someone dies..

i'm not saying it's cool to make fun of dead people, i'm just saying that people on this site can be really hypocrites sometimes...

also if there is a joke about starving african children is it fun and ok, but when someone makes fun of 3 people, it's not? **** logic

so where is the line? is it when it's about something that might happen to you? something that happened near you? when is about someone that might have been close to you? or just something that touched you in some way or another?

i'm just curious.
User avatar #36 to #28 - lulusaurus (04/17/2013) [-]
The line is different for each person. For example I don't mind the Boston Marathon jokes, but I wasn't affected by the event in any way or form. I suppose my line would be drawn to my family; if someone makes fun of my dead mother I would rage so much inside.

Now my comment not saying that we shouldn't be making Boston jokes, I made this comment because I was butthurt towards how people are calling Americans babies and pussies for caring about an event that affected them.
User avatar #47 to #36 - noket (04/17/2013) [-]
well.. it's understandable that you would be pissed off if someone jokes about that, but this would be something directed to you and you would have all the reason to be mad..

anyway i'm not trying to convince anyone to make boston's jokes, i'm just saying that if you want to be upset by people deaths and you try to convince other people to do the same.. you should do it for others too then.. you can't be mad about boston's deaths and then on the next content laugh about amanda todd... or some morbid/gore stuff.. this is what i'm saying.. but anyone has all the rights to be upset about dead people or some other serious stuff.. just don't do it only when it touches you in some way..

i hope that it was all clear, i'm italian and sometimes i can't express myself so good in english when talking about serious things..

Your English is well and understandable. And I agree with you. Jokes of that scale are low blows and I don't find them funny.
But if DJ 4DM1N were to some how nuke a place there are people on the internet who would post a joke about it in a matter of minutes after the event. Such is life.
