actualy you just get the name and respect from his people, pretty sure that's sheogorath from oblivion, if the deadric prince made the deadric prince of order into the prince of madness once, they can do it again, and again, and again.
tho i see your point of view.
also on oblivion you were only imortal at the shivering isles, if you leave you can die, and you also had to cast a spell.

Plus the eyes the original sheogorath's eyes are clearly colored in oblivion

In shivering isles sheogorath promises that he would take out your eyes

In that case you should anon. The combat system is a bit wonky and the characters look like arse but the shivering isles and almost all of the guilds are worth it (and better than skyrim's guilds in my opinion)

There's no way one person could be: The champion of Cyrodiil, the Listener, Guildmaster for the fighter's guild, Archmage, Knight of the Nine, Gray Fox, and every other title you can get in Oblivion, and then also be Sheogorath's champion.
I'd assume that each title would canonically be a different person.

As for the Sheogorath referencing events from Oblivion, well yeah. Sheogorath's Champion was supposed to be just some guy who went from Mundus to Oblivion. I'm assuming once he got Sheogorath's mantle, he got the ability to know what the **** is going on in the mortal realm.
Referencing Martin: The events of Oblivion were the most most devastating events in that era, so that would be something he'd want to know about.
Referencing the Gray Fox (most illusive criminal in Cyrodiil's history) and the internal Conflict in the dark brotherhood (butthurt mamma's boy infiltrating a cult of assassins to get revenge): Does that not sound like something someone who (presumably) became insane when he replaced the old daedric prince of madness would be interested in?

tldr; Sheogorath in Skyrim isn't the same Sheogorath as in Oblivion, but he isn't the champion of Cyrodiil, the gray fox, or the listener

Are you familiar with the term "CHIM" in the Elder Scrolls universe? It has something to do with the main character becoming self-aware, and being able to "change the rules" of the "game" through mods, etc.

I believe its origins lie in Morrowind, when the player character could choose between several radically different endings. Books in the game describe this time as "when the dragon broke", the dragon possibly being Akatosh, the deity of time. Basically, all the endings exist, while at the same time, none of them do. Perhaps the player character having all those titles is something similar?

It's an interesting read.

Yeah, that's what the warp in the west is all about. I haven't heard anything about mods possibly being canon, though, that just sounds ****** .
But yeah, that is possible.

Unless, of course, in some time between the Oblivion Crisis and Skyrim's Civil War, your previous character handed down the title of Sheogorath to another mortal.

When he's talking as you approach him, he actually talks about some of the events in Oblivion
