%90 of western bees in a hive die in one hour and hornets colonized them.

They fly in organized escort patterns, protecting a new queen as she sets out to start a new hive. Wings of three to five bees scout the path, clear the sides, protect the rear, and at least four provide close in escort.

Kinda crazy really. Friggin bee Air Force right there.

...though they still have an odd tendency to fly into things when preforming escort duty. Like bam, right into a rock or tree. Not sure why.

also it is the old queen who flys out with the swarm whilst the old colliny breed a new queen

just dont speak about how they starve the queen to near death before so she can fly properly.
also they fly into things because of the way they see being different to us. for example bees can see another color to us and will see chicken wire as a solid wall
also if a swarm falls out of a tree they make the best splat of bees ever which is hilarious to see

i was watching a documentary on this not long ago. While the bees may kill the hornets in a bad-ass way, it actually only takes about 30 hornets to take down an entire hive of bees with very few of the hornets being taken down.

It wouldn't, I think - if I remember correctly it only works because wasps have an extremely low tolerance to heat. Bees can only tolerate a few degrees more, resulting in bee casualties being quite substantial when they kill wasps this way. A small sacrifice for the hive, seeing as if they let the wasp(scout) live, it'll go get its buddies and kill all of them.

National Geographic is a good channel.

The spider is dead. The thing on the right side of the picture is the thing that paralyzed it. And I'm assuming that the thing on the right is some kind of hornet.

the spider is not dead. that is the worst of it. it is only paralyzed. if it were dead it would rot away and there would be nothing left for the wasps offspring to feed on.
