Do you people not realize you could cover that car with less than an ounce or two of pure gold?
User avatar #49 to #30 - taintedangel (04/10/2013) [-]
Not literally one or two ounces, but maybe 10-16.
#145 to #49 - lordaurion (04/11/2013) [-]
No, literally. A nugget the size of your pinky nail can cover a tennis court.
User avatar #148 to #145 - taintedangel (04/11/2013) [-]
so all it takes to gild your car would be $3120.50 american.
#149 to #148 - lordaurion (04/11/2013) [-]
In gold yes. However a pure gold coating would flake at the slightest impact and then rip off a huge chunk from the wind of driving. It needs to be alloyed. But if it is never used then yeah.

You merely adopted the gold.
I was made in it, coated by it.
I was not driven until I was one with the shine.

...and now I'll go sit in the corner.

It's a either a vinyl, or gold foil wrap. Not gold plating
User avatar #17 to #9 - stevensftw (04/10/2013) [-]
Its gold plated.
User avatar #24 to #17 - puppyfood (04/10/2013) [-]
It's millimeter film. It would be too heavy and scrape the ground if it was plated.

This is actually a gold foil wrap.

"It normally takes up to 30 hours to wrap a car, David said, but the gold foil took 70 days to complete at Auto SuperShield in Boca Raton.

The gold car was named AU79, after gold's name on the periodic table of elements -- and despite some at the company hoping to name it "C3PO.""

Guys...the car is not made out of gold. It is a gold paint.

Either way, gold is probably lighter than the material used for the body so it wouldn't be practical to drive it.
User avatar #12 - Cleavland Steamer (04/10/2013) [-]
You might as well paint "Steal me" on the hood of the car.
User avatar #21 to #12 - mondominiman (04/10/2013) [-]
If you own a car like that chances are you won't be driving in bad neighborhoods but high end places.
#42 to #12 - ftsfts (04/10/2013) [-]
Not really, the car is unique so very easy to trace therefore not many buyers and you wouldn't want to keep said car in your possession for the same reason. The cars with the "steal me" sign are the everyday cars that you can easily get rid of or at the very least not be caught easily.
