not saying skrillex is great my any means.
electronic music artists can't just preform the music like other music artists, thats why most focus on the presentation with lights and stuff

don't hurt me

How do we even know he makes the music. What if it's a team of 20, and he's just one of them who takes all the fame?

Well i don't play drums, but i have tried them. So i guess you need good sense of rhythm , dedication, patience, good timing and a good taste in music (when to hit what if you're composing etc.).

As said, I'm just guessing.

i disagree, i know how to play guitar. It's easy and straight forward, you just need alot of practice and dedication. I tried making a song in Fruity loops once. That **** was so difficult to learn and understand, and tedious as hell to get the sounds to be the way you want.. I even had a friend helping me along the whole way, and after hours of work all i could make was old McDonald had a farm.. And it sounded horrible..

not taking sides, just stating my experience

I've played a couple of gigs, and it's nowhere close to just pushing 'play', and pretend to turn knobs. Or that depends on your kind of style, if you just beatmash, or do live mash-ups.
#118 to #94 - firecrotchq (04/09/2013) [-]
Ya my friends brother has just recently started DJ-ing and I really enjoy his style, he never saves the music he makes at parties or something so that every single mix he makes is unique.
#66 to #34 - chucknorriskickr (04/09/2013) [-]
i do and dont start off producing. Begin with a simple dj software like virual dj and work your way up from that to something like traktor. Once you've the hang of that you can begin producing but I highly recommend using tutorials instead of doing it yourself. And yes it is time consuming but is worth it when you can start getting gigs :) Hope i helped :) (pic related proper djs :D )
User avatar #93 to #66 - sandeberg ONLINE (04/09/2013) [-]

#4 - anon (04/09/2013) [-]
Funny 'cause it's true. I always laugh when I see videos of these kinds of "musicians" where they pretend to be keeping busy turning knobs and stuff so it looks like they're actually doing something instead of just clicking play on the laptop and checking their email.

I'm quite surprised that it was still understandable although i missed like 100 words.
But please, never user Virtual DJ again to prove your point in a discussion like this. For your own sake. Traktor 2 Pro Scratch or Ableton Live are the only choices for digital DJ's.

Being a DJ is actually more then just pressing play actually. Depending on what type you are there are scrathes, loops, and many more techniques that require more then just hitting play. I tried to learn to Dj once, it wasn't my thing but trust me its harder then you think it is.
#11 to #4 - lastsamurai (04/09/2013) [-]
Skrillex uses Fl studio and a dj set at his concerts.
My cousin uses the same program, and you should know that people like avicii use this stuff too. So don't bash him for it.

Skrillex is ok, he hasn't done anything to deserve my hate. And I liked some of his songs..
Stop being hateful assholes FJ.

hey uses ableton and an mpc
User avatar #32 to #11 - kimilsung (04/09/2013) [-]
It's not about hating, i actually think some songs are not bad, but it's a fact that he plays songs premade at home or his studio, and he turns knobs with no function, because else he would have nothing to do, just sit and drink a beer.
#214 to #32 - anon (04/09/2013) [-]
do you really expect him to make stuff up on the fly? that would be like bashing composers for standing in front of the band waving their wand
User avatar #294 to #32 - dirtywave (04/10/2013) [-]
That is complete ******** .
Especially skrillex (or every other artist affiliated with mau5trap) mostly never plays the same set twice. Of course they do have some kind of routine (which is simply required if you're not playing in a club aka for more than 3000 people.)

Please, do yourself a favor. Instead of being a stupid asshole, watch these 2 videos (5 minutes of your whole ******* life.)

#56 to #4 - nostresstoday (04/09/2013) [-]
But then you don't know **** about EDM. Most REAL DJs (Skrillex can suck my balls, and maybe make a song out of the gagging sound he makes) make a set beforehand, to plan which songs they are going to play, then do the transitions manually. That means making the beats sync before switching between the songs.

This preset is thought out carefully as you cannot go from one song to another without both being in a similar key. C#Major cannot go to A#Minor
#208 to #56 - anon (04/09/2013) [-]
actually these "REAL" dj's you talk about don't plan their sets beforehand, they have a bank of songs that they can pull from, and most of the time they read the crowd and play what the crowd is feeling.

Not that I'm such a huge Skrillex fan or anything, but seriously. Theres a lot more involved than pressing a play button. Take Madeon for example, theres A LOT that goes into his live sets.
