So true, when I played it and saw it I was like "is this what they made the fuss about". The dude just presses his body against hers, then she proceeds to kick him the nuts and shoot his ******* face.

I watched a Video on the supposed "scene" in Tomb Raider.

It wasn't like, a full blown FarCry3 sex scene, it was just considered to be too "suggestive".

They ended up toning it down, but to be honest, it wasn't even bad in the first place.

the only scene ive watched in youtube that they've cut out was when shes escaping, the first sacrificed body she sees she was supposed to know and say "Oh god, Steph," But i guess they didnt want to make another character.
Could you link me said scene?

I hate all the heavy impact on the 'rape' in tomb raider.
First of all it wasn't rape, there were implied sexual motivations yes, but no rape whatsoever, hell Far Cry 3 had more implied rape than Tomb Raider yet that went untouched (Not saying that Far Cry is a bad game but it is there).

Second, even during the scene that everyone bitches about there isn't any rape if you fail, there have been a tonne of people doing both outcomes of these scenes to see what happens if you don't try to fend off this attacker and whoop de doo Lara gets either strangled or shot in the face. No rape whatsoever.

I think it's just the fact that it's the protagonist under threat of being raped and the fact that this protagonist is a female that everyone is complaining about. But isn't that why Tomb Raider games set themselves apart from others with male leads? Lara is a badass female lead and has proven so by her long franchise of games thus far.

I'm not condoning rape for the sake of character development I AM saying that the heavy exaggeration related to this game, no, this one meager scene in the game is way more than is necessary. Would it have been such an issue if there was no foreshadowing by companies in the first place or would players have simply skimmed over it and kicked the enemy in the crotch as is scripted by the game and carry on being badass?

The point of the game is that you only see what the character sees correct?

So if she's dead or unconscious...how would you know?

Why is "rape for the sake of character development" okay in movies, series, books, theatre, but not in videogames?

I don't know but I personally don't particularly like it in all mediums, it seems like a real bad case of forced drama by touching on taboo topics. Not to say it's always a bad thing in storytelling but when doing it the storyteller doesn't want to half ass it.

My problem with Tomb Raider was how they advertised it. I get that they were trying to show that Laura Croft Was strong and badass but literally every trailer and gameplay demo was of her getting the absolute **** beat out her, almost like we were supposed to get off on her torment. Maybe, there wasn't that much rape in the game, but that's how they sold it

The point of THIS game is that she ISN'T a badass. She wasn't just born with her pistols by her side. This game shows how she went from a soft anthropologist to a hardcore tomb raider badass ************. They sold it as it is - what made Laura Croft who she is. She was an innocent girl, her ship sank, she was forced to survive on foreign soil with these aggressive brutes attacking her. Through that journey she became the strong badass. But before that she was a pussy.

What did you expect? Them to sell Tomb Raider like it was just another tomb raider game, then sell a game that is 0% similar to the others?

Actually I was referring to two scenes where females were implied as raped.
Spoilers ahead btw

One where you go to kill Vaas, on the way to the entrance the camp you enter through a chasm (?) and there are two soldiers forcefully leading a female NPC somewhere, though you can kill them and that's that, I never waited to see what would happen.

Second was when you steal a privateers uniform and go to the introduction with Hoyt, he says that the privateers may 'use' his properties as long as they're gentle.

......There was no rape scene. She barely even gets fondled. Its like hand on hip for two seconds then BAM you're running, grabbed back, he shoves his face in her neck and then BAM you're struggling to kill him.
If you think thats rape, you have problems.

they took 25% from an actual rape scene, then added it to a scene with no rape, to get that "25% more rape"

I cared much about the politics. It made the story contexts and a weird sense of realism.
Now, I could have gone without, it wasn't important, but it was still a cool detail.

Now, I wouldn't call the game politically deep.

But the politics were cool to some of us, yeah.
