all powerful, or omnipotence, is paradoxical in itself
can god heat up a burrito so heat that he himself cannot touch it?

What attitude? Am I apparently stupid for believing in an entitiy that you don't? I'm telling you truth. YOU may not believe he's real but I do, you can't prove he doesn't exist even with simple logic because then you'd have to explain the "stupidity" of millions of people whom might not all be stupid and who use logic and common sense to it's fullest on a daily basis. Not only that you'd have to explain all of the miracles recorded not just in the bible but in other historical journals found explaining in great details those exact same miracles/actions.
#127 to #125 - KungFuZerO (03/29/2013) [-]
I never called u stupid, but funny how thats the first thing that came to ur mind...
and you cant prove anything doesnt exist, dumbass
millions of people arent stupid, they're simply human. they fear death, lack an adequate male role model, feel comfort in fatherly figures, dislike not knowing things, dislike questioning traditions they've been indoctrinated to believe, etc. etc.
also, based on probability, a baby is bound to survive a fire, or a cancer patient is bound to survive. it isnt a miracle. its probability. If you can thank god for miracles you must blame him for every death, accident, and natural disaster.
User avatar #128 to #127 - oceanfrank (03/29/2013) [-]
I do blame him for death, accident, and natural disaster, he giveth and taketh away. You come in here telling me that my beliefs are false and that I should get over it and when I go to refute your sayings all of a sudden you say that I have a lack of the basic understanding of the rules of logic and then go to say that i have an attitude problem. All in all this insinuates by the "rules of logic" that you're subliminally calling me a mindless and stupid follower of Christianity and then you call me a dumbass after I found out your intentions. Deny or accept this, it's a fact. Also I dont call every good thing that happens a miracle because a lot of the times it's not. I call good things that happened or amazing feats that supposedly are NEVER going to happen miracles. A baby surviving a fire isn't a miracle, it's luck and a combination as you said probability as is surviving cancer. Your egotistical way of thinking and intolerance of the beliefs of others is exactly why both Christians and Atheists get a bad rep. Please stop embarassing yourself.

He made a perfect point that is relatable to god. And how can a being exist that knows and sees everything?
User avatar #44 to #33 - desiduratum (03/28/2013) [-]
No, I agree with oceanfrank. I highly doubt that a 10 year old has the wisdom of a supreme being who has conceived the universe for probably a lot longer than our scientist can accurately calculate; Billions of years.

And as far as people not being able to see god. Since we're using a 10 year old comparison to god, simple ants never seem to notice our presence either. And when they crawl over us, we're not much more than an obstacle.

I have also observed ants, and used to, when I was little, I may have wished them harm and have hurt and killed them. Now I am older, and have no desire to harm simple ants, rather, I let them be and avoid harming them if possible. It's because I am a higher being and they are not a threat. I am no longer cruel to them, and as a higher being, I have more important things to attend to.

Would we be so proud as to think that we are the center of gods universe? I am not sure. Maybe we ARE like ants to god, and maybe he thinks of us as simple creatures and chooses not to intervene in our lives. Perhaps we were a mere project of his.
If this is the case, then I am humbled.

That is all I can think to say about this at the moment. If you've read this, then I thank you.
User avatar #36 to #33 - oceanfrank (03/28/2013) [-]
Honestly, the best thing I can answer that with is that God just does exist (at least I believe he does). It's really all just a matter of faith, you either believe in him or you dont. This whole organized religion has twisted the idea of belief in God by making you abide to their teachings instead of the teachings that he left us with which are in the bible.

an All Knowing being bro. You can't compare a God to a kid.
User avatar #59 to #38 - thebritishguy (03/28/2013) [-]
Kid gets angry and hits people because he hasn't learnt to control his anger and be responsible- God does Noahs Ark a mass genocide because he was angry
Kid doesn't know about evolution he just thinks animals were made by magic- God thinks he just made them with his magic powers
Kid doesn't know that the Earth rotates- neither does God he thinks the Earth is stable
Kid doesn't know why people get diseases, he reckons it's evil spirits or some ***** so does Jesus
Kid thinks the earth is flat because he can see it is flat - God does as well he often refers to the 4 corners of the Earth
Kid punishes people just because they don't like him - Hell
Kid doesn't think homosexuality is natural, he doesn't know that there are gay animals- so does God
Kid thinks the sky is made out of water because it's blue - so does God
#64 to #59 - oceanfrank (03/28/2013) [-]
in order:

- God killed them because they were the offspring of fallen angels and harlots. He told Moses to build an ark and to tell everyone who believed in God to come with him which they did and they repopulated when the flood stopped. He wasn't angry
- God doesn't think he made the animals and **** , he knows how he made him. Whether it was through evolution or creationism remains to be known.
- The Earth does rotate, it's been proven and all Christians now deem that scripture to be null and void
- Again it's been proven that bacteria and other diseases are caused by bacteria. There are supposed reports of possessions that could or could not be evil spirits but they aren't diseases.
- Proven not to be flat and people still say 4 corners of the Earth even today it still doesn't mean the world is flat
- Hell is earned, just like any punishment, not simply because he doesn't like you because if you live a righteous life with or without his influence he'll forgive you
- That's refutable
- The blueness of the sky comes from the refraction of light in WATER vapor and WATER droplets

User avatar #70 to #64 - thebritishguy (03/28/2013) [-]
- He was totally angry, you can't just ignore the fact this was supposedly if it was possible the biggest genocide in history, also what is wrong with not believing an outlandish theory with little evidence?
- There is over whelming amounts of evidence for evolution, the entire creation story is ridiculous
- You can't just pretend the scripture never happened whether you ignore it or not is irrelevant it says the earth doesn't move
- Exactly that's what I'm saying God doesn't know **** about disease
-ffs I'm not saying the earth is flat I'm saying that's what your God thinks there are quite a few verses referring to the Earth as flat
- the bible says that people who believe in him are righteous so all it's saying is the people who believe in him will be saved from himself, it says on the apocalypse the unbelievers will burn in a lake of fire
-It says he separated the waters and put a firmament between them so it seems to me he thinks the sky is water but that's just my interpretation you could say he was referring to evaporation
Educate yourself before trying to back an argument up

User avatar #72 to #70 - oceanfrank (03/28/2013) [-]
you do realize god himself did not make the bible right? you do realize besides the scriptures of the life of jesus (Those are the only ones that don't have contradictions in terms of what Jesus/God said) every single book in the bible was written by a faulted human who obviously was still bound to the culture and beliefs of that time. MANY scriptures in the bible are discredited by Christianity itself because it's been proven to be false or completely illogical. God can't think the Earth is flat when he made it, that's like me making a paper mache ball and thinking it was flat the whole time because an apprentice of mine who had a telescope zoomed in on it wrote that he believed it to be flat.
User avatar #99 to #72 - eight (03/28/2013) [-]
If humans wrote it faulty with the DIVINE INSPIRATION OF GOD, then it wasn't very divine was it? Either they were directly inspired, and would then get it right or they fabricated it all. There are a lot of errors in The Bible.

If God wanted this book to be made so badly, he could have put a little effort into doing it himself or at least giving humans a better nudge to be accurate. But nope, he does it half ass. And it follows a line of hundreds of coincidences.

The truth of the matter is, like all other religions, the Old Testament was written to explain what people at the time could not understand and feared. And for a thousand years it made perfect sense (until it needed an update with the New testament).

But it makes sense no longer. Every culture on this Earth has done the same exact thing in their own way, and if you agree that they are all wrong, you are too, because your religion is no different.
User avatar #84 to #72 - thebritishguy (03/28/2013) [-]
If you think the bible was just written by men I don't know why you would believe anything it says
User avatar #80 to #72 - thebritishguy (03/28/2013) [-]
exactly but that means that you shouldn't read it and for ***** sake don't base your morals or deny people their civil rights just because it's in a book (gay marriage)
User avatar #85 to #80 - oceanfrank (03/28/2013) [-]
I dont deny anyone the right to marry anyone. As long as it doesn't infringe on my rights as an American citizen I couldn't give two ***** what two homos do with each other. I follow it because it's a good book to follow if you want to lead a good life. It teaches you morals, gives you wisdom, and how to think for yourself while at the same time giving yourself up to a higher authority that really does love you as long as you believe that he does, and even then he still loves you. Just because you don't agree with everything it says doesn't make the bible a bad book.
User avatar #94 to #85 - eight (03/28/2013) [-]
"I follow it because it's a good book to follow if you want to lead a good life. It teaches you morals, gives you wisdom, and how to think for yourself"

There are more modern self helps books for this that teach the same thing minus the higher authority.

And one thing The Bible does not teach is how to think for yourself. It only teaches you how to think within the realms of your religion. Anything foreign or anything that contradicts your religion is automatically false. That isn't thinking for yourself, that is brainwashing.

If people stuck to their beliefs without room to sway, we would all still be living in the dark, without electricity, without technology, farming and living very simple lives.
User avatar #102 to #94 - oceanfrank (03/28/2013) [-]
I dont immediately disagree with something just because it goes against my beliefs. the book of Psalms, Proverbs, Jobs, etc... They all teach you to be self reliant and to think for yourself. It teaches you to determine right from wrong as well as to try and teach you to stay on the path of God at the same time. I am only human, I am only a mere mortal, im not all knowing and I realize that, but the bible sure has taught me to trust what I believe in but to also pay attention to those with wisdom because otherwise I myself am not wise.

Your last sentence has some truth in terms of corruption within a religion but if you actually took the time to read the bible in context and stop following the supposed "contradictions" everyone points out you'd realize that the bible truly is a wonderful way to lead a life.

I dont go out every saturday/sunday to church because i know they manipulate his teachings to fit their beliefs and I sure as hell dont try to convince atheists or whomever to believe in God by ramming it down their throats.

I'm happy with my beliefs and I'm sure you are too, I'm just explaining to you that the bible does have its perks as well as it's flaws because after all it was written by humans
User avatar #103 to #102 - eight (03/28/2013) [-]
I used to be Christian. I was raised a Christian. I have the read the Bible.
User avatar #105 to #103 - oceanfrank (03/28/2013) [-]
okay, then you should know that this book teaches you to love and tolerate those who are lost just as Jesus would and to learn from those who are wiser than you.
User avatar #108 to #105 - eight (03/28/2013) [-]
There are versus that contradict this as well. The Bible is full of them.
#89 to #85 - thebritishguy (03/28/2013) [-]
it's not that I don't agree with everything it says it's that I agree with barely anything it says, the concepts, particularly heaven and hell the fact someone would want to believe the majority of human beings are burning alive and this is justice is horrific, and then of course there is the big brother type constant surveillance it says if someone isn't part of your group he is an immoral fool, the only thing I like in the bible is the character of Jesus but it is evident he couldn't have existed as he is in the bible because it says he was born in three different time periods
User avatar #104 to #89 - oceanfrank (03/28/2013) [-]
It doesn't say anywhere that if they don't believe in you that they're immoral fools. It says that those who lead righteous lives without believing God are simply sheep lost from the flock with Jesus as their shepherd which I semi-agree with. He calls the ones who consciously, purposely and continuously do malicious deeds immoral fools
User avatar #106 to #104 - thebritishguy (03/28/2013) [-]

User avatar #107 to #106 - oceanfrank (03/28/2013) [-]
It's referring to those who purposely do not believe in God in order to evil things. He knows whether or not those who do not believe in him do horrible things and he knows those who do good things without believing in him, those he will forgive.
User avatar #109 to #107 - thebritishguy (03/28/2013) [-]
