Tax plans that make sense:
-Raise Taxes; Cut Spending - Government comes out on top
-Raise Taxes; Raise Spending - no drastic change
-Cut Taxes; Cut Spending - See above. This is generally where Obama's opinions stand.

Tax plan that makes no sense in any way:
-Cut Taxes; Raise Spending - this puts the country into terrible debt, which so many Republicans seem to think will work.

If you are a believer in Keynes, then raising spending and cutting taxes in the only way to get out of a recession as it encourages consumer spending and provides government safety nets. It worked pretty well for FDR I the great depression

Sorry, I wrote an economics essay today and it's still stuck in my head

In addition to nearly everyone right of pelosi has been asking for spending cuts for YEARS your statements have no standing.

Spending has increased every year, Obamacare is the largest tax of anything ever, and you're forgetting who is asking for a eradication of the debt ceiling.
User avatar #52 to #51 - markertemp (03/28/2013) [-]
He's not asking for eradication, he's asking to raise it.

And here's the thing, raising the debt ceiling has a completely different effect than what most people think. It doesn't give us the leeway to borrow more money, it gives us the opportunity to pay back what we already owe more easily.

Oh, and Obama didn't invent the Affordable Care Act, Mitt Romney did, for the state of Massachusetts while he was Governor. But so many people seem to ignore that fact and brand Obama as a "socialist."

And Mitt also said it wasn't right for mass scale use in the US. And yes, Dems are currently trying to get rid of the debt ceiling, and the debt ceiling is there to limit spending, which again, has increased every single year.

"The debt limit does not control or limit the ability of the federal government to run deficits or incur obligations. Rather, it is a limit on the ability to pay obligations already incurred."

And if we cut spending there wouldn't be a need to hand out bonds, and if we didn't need to hand out bonds, we wouldn't need to raise the debt ceiling. Remember Obama's speech: The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies… America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
