In Egyptian lore, she was the goddess of Sacred Prostitution.

And Malike is Arabic meaning King.

I don't see why religious people would be mad. It's no secret the church incorporated Christ into pagan holidays to help the conversion process.

I've seen them on Metal Festivals.
Giving a "Metal Bible" to people wich is actualy just the new testament in disguise.
I was surprised that blood didn't flow those days. A big part of the metal community are against Religion or just think Satan is more awesome.

Fun fact, wearing costumes on Halloween traces back to shamans in African tribes, where the whole tribe would dress up as the demons they believed in and act like total tards, making fun of their demons, because they believed their gods were so powerful that the demons had no power over them.

Yeah, I'm Christian and one Halloween I dressed up in a scary costume and went to my Friday night youth group and the pastor that ran it tried to tell me it was the devil's holiday, so I hit him with that and told him, "Now, what is un-Christian about knowing our God is so mighty that we can make fun of Satan and he can't do **** about it?"

Yeah, he didn't have a comeback.

But bunnies did have to do with the resurrection. Everybody knows that when Jesus came back the Easter Bunny pushed the rock out of the way.

As a History buff/major... who gives a **** ?

I've seen crap about Christmas being a winter tradition since ancient Europe and what-not; it's good to know the origins of things. It's fine to teach people something, but don't try and act like a martyr-faggot with that last line.

#95 - helenwheels (03/27/2013) [-]
That last sentence sounds as though you where expecting christian's to losing their **** .
over what? if this fertility goddess never existed christian's would still believe and celebrate the resurrection. There isn't an exact date in the bible and I hear christian's go on about how there's "historical evidence" of jesus being born in spring or ******** .
The fact that there's a historical reason as to why the resurrection is celebrated when it is shouldn't bother anyone in their right mind.

#164 to #95 - Rascal (03/27/2013) [-]
"historical evidence" or not, Jesus was born in the spring because that's when the feast of tabernacles was to be celebrated. The feast of tabernacles is about God living among the people, which was literally fulfilled in Jesus' birth.
Same reason he died at Passover and resurrected on the feast of the firstfruits and the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples at Pentecost.

Actually, a quick google shows this to be a popular myth, by the looks of it. Easter's based on a pagan holiday, but it's not a corruption of Ishtar.
#272 - clownsplosion (03/27/2013) [-]
Nice facts OP. But Easter is still all about these tasty ************* to me.
#18 - Rascal (03/26/2013) [-]
In the bible it is pretty evident Jesus was born in spring, yet his birthday was moved roughly around winter solistice to divert from the hedonistic festival. In the same accord they repurposed Easter.

They even tried to rename the days, as they were named after northern gods mostly.
User avatar #45 to #18 - emrakul (03/26/2013) [-]
It did kinda help that Passover, the Jewish festival that Easter coincided with, was in the spring near the Ishtar festival; it seems like a natural development that they combined with each other

Pascha
From Latin "pascha", from Ancient Greek πάσχα (paskha) - meaning "Passover".
A Christian festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament. Also, a jewish holiday, celebrating the day they were freed from Egypt.
Eastre, a pagan goddess whose festivals (called Eastron) were in the spring season. The festival represented the rising of the sun, new life and a new beginning.

Bottom line - Easter as we know it is not based on sex.
