"Breaks for no apparent reason"
It breaks for a reason, and I'll explain it to you, ******** .
The present consoles are far more advanced than the old ones, so they use more power, and thus create more heat. Now, when a console creates a lot of heat, it sometimes melts through some of the crucial solders in the system. This will often detach things like the chips on the motherboard.

Not to mention, the older consoles did not give you feat, to set your console on its side, meaning that even if the solders were to melt, the chips would not pull away.

You see what I'm saying?
The older consoles were so inferior, that they didn't even have an easy way of killing themselves.

Much like how there were less suicides in the cave-man days.
#183 to #169 - stemoya (03/25/2013) [-]
That makes sense, but first.

If it's one of the most advanced consoles of all time, why isn't one of the advancements doing more to lessen this heat?

Second, no READILY apparent reason. I'm fairly sure this means there is nothing you can tell wrong with it without thoroughly studying it.

I did thumb you up, however, because I can't say your explanation was incorrect.
User avatar #218 to #183 - smittywrbmnjnsn (03/26/2013) [-]
Well, it does actually have systems that successfully prevent the overheat.
But, it requires the user to do a few things that: absolutely no one does

1. Keep any objects or walls at least a foot from the back at all times (for ventilation)
2. Make sure the vents are not clogged with dust
3. Make sure your console is laying FLAT

So, the problems are actually do to the user.
I've had a PlayStation 3 since it came out, and I've had absolutely no problems.
User avatar #191 to #183 - rploeger (03/25/2013) [-]
Well, i believe they mostly fixed it in the Slim version. I assume they simply didn't test it enough to see it coming.
User avatar #203 to #191 - kenwordo (03/25/2013) [-]
the issue is due to the **** metal they use to make them. the metal is what melts due to the heat
User avatar #227 to #203 - rploeger (03/26/2013) [-]
They used soldering tin, like almost any type of electronic appliance uses. What they should have done is add better cooling.
#182 to #169 - ExorArgus (03/25/2013) [-]
You did kinda miss the operative word in the your quote "readily".
#184 to #182 - stemoya (03/25/2013) [-]
Hm. If only I hadn't spent five minutes typing up that comment, I would have gotten that before you. Haha...
User avatar #181 to #169 - WHATTHEPISSTRAINE (03/25/2013) [-]
If it looks cool but breaks all the time its stupid,
If its old and never breaks it's good
Now tell me, why would you spend 200$ on a new 360 that breaks
when you could buy an old 64 for 30 bucks and a **** load of games
and have hours of entertainment for as long as you wish
More advanced is no excuse for cheap and fragile
User avatar #219 to #181 - smittywrbmnjnsn (03/26/2013) [-]
No, you're incorrect.

The system doesn't simply "break". You take a little care of your property, and it won't break.

What you're saying is "I'd rather have a rock, than a gun. Because my gun keeps jamming (even though I never clean the barrel)"
User avatar #226 to #219 - WHATTHEPISSTRAINE (03/26/2013) [-]
No really its more so of, ide rather buy a range rover because it has more cup holders but dont want to pay to fix it ever five miles.
User avatar #230 to #226 - smittywrbmnjnsn (03/26/2013) [-]
You see. If you take a little care of your **** , you wouldn't have to "fix it ever five miles".
I haven't had any problems with my PS3, and I got it when it came out.
You see? I got the more advanced game system, and kept it just as strong as the older, less advanced ones.
User avatar #231 to #230 - WHATTHEPISSTRAINE (03/27/2013) [-]
I never had problems with my ps3 either, I just air can it out occasionally to prevent over heating. MY little brother has gone through 3 x box 360s that get aired out on occasion as well.. Older x boxes were VERY cheaply made. Advanced has NOTHING to do with cheapskating and fragility
User avatar #232 to #231 - smittywrbmnjnsn (03/27/2013) [-]
Oh.
Alright then.

I only added 4 gigs of ram for 20€ over the two years

I guess I could have just bought xbox for 300€
oh wait xbox cant photoshop
oh well at least my thing does something else except play games

Though the xbox may not be able to do as many things as a PC can, it is not limited to just gaming, you can stream music, watch videos, a bunch of different apps.. it has bing and they added internet explorer not too long ago, I can watch porn on my xbox, WHAT DO I NEED A COMPUTER FOR?? And other things I didn't list.
User avatar #216 to #195 - dafuqisdisshit (03/25/2013) [-]
Yes agreeable about the xbox but I do an equal amount of PC gaming as console gaming. But I prefer PC gaming because of better quality and more expansive multiplayer. Yes I understand you can surf the web on the xbox. And if thats all you're going to do then I see your point on not getting a PC. Yes the cost of a good PC can get expensive but It is really worth it. Would you rather have something that lasts 3-4 years before the next gen console or something that lasts 10-15 years that you can slowly upgrade up to a point. And that is if you take good care of it.

I have had 5 Xboxs break for no reason.
2 had Red Ring of Death.
1 had E74 error.
1 had some weird freezing problem, and it couldn't read disks.
The most recent one that broke really pissed me off. It had an E73 error, and when I called Xbox Support, they actually had to look up E73 to find out what it was, because apparently it's extremely rare. I found a temporary fix where I could overheat the Xbox and restart it, and the error would be gone. Then one time, after doing the fix, I got Red Ring of Death. I did the fix again, and it went back to E73. Every time I applied the fix, it switched errors. It had two fatal hardware malfunctions at the same time.... what a pile of junk.
#180 to #80 - John Cena (03/25/2013) [-]
I've had one for 6 years straight without any problems.
5 don't break for no apparent reason. The common denominator is you.

I got an Xbox 360 a few days after it came out and it still runs. I have the new version now and it also has never had any problems.
User avatar #83 to #80 - garymotherfinoak (03/25/2013) [-]
The newer model of 360's (elite and the improved cooling versions) dont usually have this problem, did you just buy a bunch of 'pro' versions?
User avatar #87 to #83 - Cleavland Steamer (03/25/2013) [-]
I kept buying the older models because they were cheap, and the newer versions are like $300.

I currently still have an older model, but it has been working for about a year.
User avatar #88 to #87 - garymotherfinoak (03/25/2013) [-]
Just buy an elite for 120$ when yours breaks down the 6th time around, the worst error i've gotten on that one is a hard drive corruption, but you can still restore 80% of your content if that happens
User avatar #91 to #88 - Cleavland Steamer (03/25/2013) [-]
I'll probably just wait for the 720 to come out around Christmas...
User avatar #94 to #91 - garymotherfinoak (03/25/2013) [-]
eeeehhhh....

I hate to tell you, but the policies on the PS4 and 720 are going to have them plummet into the ground with a plethera of angry customers. the WII U may be slightly weaker than them with it's own set of launch problems (though the power comparison is nowhere near as big as last gen and the launch problems have been resolved, with no outstanding policies), i think a WII U is your safest bet.
User avatar #98 to #94 - Cleavland Steamer (03/25/2013) [-]
All my friends have Xboxs/Xbox Live. That's why I buy them, because I won't have anyone to play with on PS or Wii.

alright. that's the most important reason to get a certain console, to play with friends and enjoy them.

User avatar #175 to #131 - killerliquid (03/25/2013) [-]
I can see where you're getting at but you do know why the older consoles were so reliable, right? It was because the tech was simpler back then, there wasn't as much hardware that had to work together.

"One of the most advanced consoles of our time"
along with the PS3 and Wii, it didn't say it was "the" most advanced.
User avatar #206 to #199 - buriedstpatrick (03/25/2013) [-]
I would as far as to say the PS3 is the most advanced due to its needlessly complex architecture. The XBOX is basically a low end PC with an additional internet subscription fee.

The only one I can think of is that Naruto game.

I bought my xbox in 2009 and it works perfectly. The only problem is that the disk drive sometimes gets stuck, but that's easily fixed.

Nobody that I know who has an xbox has ever had the RROD. Maybe the quality of xboxes is better in Ireland, because if it's the same as everywhere else, I really don't know why it doesn't happen here.
