I would imagine trying to carry 36 bowls of soup would be quite difficult regardless of how strong you are.

Well carrying gold would be a measure of raw strength. But carrying 36 OPEN bowls of soup would be some sort of balancing act.

Empty bowls are stackable. Simply said, steve is not limited in his strenght. He has unlimited strength, but limited places to carry items. He can carry as many empty bowls as gold blocks, no more. They weigh different, but that matters not.
