Unlike Pope Benedict, I feel Francis will be a lot more strict in exposing Pedophile priests. Although I disagree with his views on homosexuality and gay adoption, I feel he might be a good Pope.

A recent study showed 80% of people opposed to all things gay - 'homophobes' - had a boner while watching gay porn. Only 35% of normal people had boners. The more you know

Catholics actually allow gays in their religion and don't harass them about it...

Since the new pope has to be chosen by cardinals, it's limited how much change one can bring. The new pope could be the greatest person ever with the greatest ideals, but there's only so much one can get thru with. I'm just glad that he seems different and humble and stuff
User avatar #31 to #23 - anonymoose (03/22/2013) [-]
It's mostly him calling gay adoption evil that I'm concerned about.
User avatar #32 to #31 - noket (03/22/2013) [-]
man, i totally see your point and i agree.. though i wont expect him to be the change the catholics need to catch up with the world.. one day or another they would have to change their mind.. but i don't expect it to be today :-/

but i really hope so.. you know, i'm italian and the church and the pope are very influential here, although most of us are actually atheist :-) (shunnn the non-believer)
User avatar #37 to #32 - Ropyx (03/22/2013) [-]
uuuh, no? most of italians are Catholic-Christians, Most of NORD italy is Atheist, and what's the story of "catching up with the world", seriously?

There are many gay authorities that are against gay child adoption, because a child needs the presence of a father AND of a mother, so they can grow in a good and NORMAL environment

We should TOTALLY listen to this guy. He seems like he most certainly knows many MANY children raised by gay couples and has facts to back him up.
User avatar #113 to #37 - crazyhindu (03/23/2013) [-]
okay what about children raised by single parents? most of them turn out fine, and **** when have you met a gaydude who didnt act a little femine, also who cares? its not your children they are raising and if it is, why the **** are they raising your child unless you gave it up like a careless parent?
User avatar #163 to #113 - IamSofaKingdom (03/23/2013) [-]
This statement is not made in an attempt to take anyone's side in anything but statistically kids raised in single parent homes are more likely to start drugs, drop out of school and commit crimes. Statistics they used to tell me in grade school (the D.A.R.E. program for one)
User avatar #270 to #163 - elcreepo (03/23/2013) [-]
I was two when my father left and barely had him in my life.

I'm fine, I refuse to do drugs, I'm a decent student in college. It's not the whole being raised by single parents, it's who that single parent is, and my mother is an extremely authoritarian parent whom I wouldn't dare upset.
User avatar #356 to #270 - IamSofaKingdom (03/23/2013) [-]
Yes, because what happened to you is automatically the norm for everyone. Just because the percentage of kids who end up doing those things is higher doesn't mean all single parent kids will automatically do them. I am not sure what you were trying to accomplish with your story. The statistics didn't say every kid did those things, it found that the chance that they would was higher.

Statistics are also a little broader in their scope than one example...
User avatar #357 to #356 - elcreepo (03/23/2013) [-]
Your statement is just as general. Statistics mean nothing to the individual, meaning that your statement to crazyhindu is invalid.

Meaning that if a child was raised in a gay/single parent home, they're not necessarily going to become druggists or gays, despite what statistics say.
User avatar #358 to #357 - IamSofaKingdom (03/23/2013) [-]
My statement had nothing to do with the gay debate. I even made mention that it was not on either side of the argument. You aren't reading what I am writing, you are simply out to argue something. My statement pertains to the discussion, yours is much less relevant. I made mention of statistics that show how kids from single parent homes have a higher chance to do things like drop out of school. Your "counter argument" was that you did not do that. So what? The statistic wasn't 100% of single parent kids dropped out, so obviously some of them don't. You mentioning that you didn't yourself makes no point whatsoever against what I said.
User avatar #339 to #32 - JoshBauer (03/23/2013) [-]
Or, you know, they might not change their minds because it's been in their religion for several thousand years. Accepting gay marriage isn't catching up with the world, it's just a different idea.

You can't expect a religion as old as Catholicism to change it's beliefs bases on societal views. that is like saying, "our omnipotent timeless god's laws are unpopular, we should change them. That sounds a lot like heresy. I may be wrong because i am a baptist, not a catholic.

If you literally believe you are the messenger of God, his voice on Earth, his chosen servant, than wouldn't you believe that God (mother ******* omnipotent being capable of creating all life and then destroying most of it) would have the ability to stop a bullet?
User avatar #124 to #122 - vegetatheprince (03/23/2013) [-]
If I were the pope, I would know by this point that God doesn't directly interact with the world anymore (ala the last covenant with the death/ascension of Jesus)
#128 to #124 - Rascal (03/23/2013) [-]
As opposed to the part of the Bible where Jesus proclaims Peter to be the one to carry on his Church? "This is rock in which my church will be built."

Not only that but this is what the Catholic has believed since the beginning of the entire Catholic dogma?
User avatar #129 to #128 - vegetatheprince (03/23/2013) [-]
what does that quote have to do with God being the defender of the pope?
#132 to #129 - Rascal (03/23/2013) [-]
Jesus said that his church will be carried on through Peter in the Book of Matthew 16:18.

Peter became the first Pope. The Pope is the head of the Church. The Catholic Church teaches that God continues to choose a Pope to carry on the Church and work as "God's hand" on Earth. So, yes. I would think that God would want to protect the man that is supposed to be his mouth to mankind

Haters as in people strongly against someone or group of people. Examples would be the KKK or Hitler. These kind of people would kill the Pope if they had the chance, so he's "play it safe'" and riding in a bullet proof car cause you never know where the haters are.

Don't hold you breath for the Pope to endorse gay marriage. It's never going to happen. The Catholic church doesn't recognize any marriage between two people that cannot procreate. Technically you can't get married if you're infertile or paralyzed either. What's going to happen is that gay marriage will eventually be legalized in the courts and remain unrecognized in the church.

In the Catholic church you cannot get divorced either. The divorce will be legal in the courts, but not be recognized by the church. (you can get an annulment, but that's different) This is going to be pretty much how gay marriage works.
Source; I'm Catholic
User avatar #159 to #125 - churrundo (03/23/2013) [-]
there's a way to get "divorced" by the church. in spanish it's called Nullifying the marriage, by proving that it was never valid.

He's the Pope. All he's got authority over is Catholic people and the Vatican, not something that's going to change the world.
I mean, really, would you be surprised if you lived in the Vatican, pretty much the most Catholic place on the planet, and they didn't allow gay marriage?
Yeah I disagree with him, but I'm not affected by him and he's not doing visible harm, so I don't really care.
