Tight Grip

I was at the store with my wife and kids. We did our
shopping and came out, stopping at the curb to wait for a
few cars to pass. My 4 year old decided to try to cross
anyway.
My wife was holding his hand, but he snatched himself
free and tried to run across the street before all the cars
had passed. He got a single foot off the curb and some guy
out of nowhere grabs him and puts him back next to us.
He turned to me and said 'Always keep a tight grip on
him. I won' t be there when it happens next time.‘ He then
walked away and said 'Target is safe. Sector 2 secure.' into
his watch. My wife and I were dumbfounded. She ran
after the guy to thank him but he dissapeared.
I' been an internet geek for years, so I knew what was
going on, but my wife is a Facebook/ farmville/ email type
of person, so she never heard of the meme before. So not
only did you possibly save my son from serious harm,
you' had my wife going wtf for 3 hours now. In
recognition of your service and quick thinking, I will
honor you by playing along as long as I can. Salute
...

What if it wasn't some guy trolling?

What if the kid grows up to be Earth's savior?

What if he was really sent from the future to be the kid's guardian?

i am familiar with what he was doing but it has nothing to do with memes its more like real life trolling.

"A meme is "an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture.""

This is no less a meme than a rage comic. Just because it isn't a picture doesn't mean it's no in the definition.

well it's not a meme same as most internet "memes" aren't, since they don't fit into memezian (no idea if i got that right, no time to spell check) psychology. However it is a trend to do things to think people were saved by a person from the future etc.
User avatar #82 to #73 - shunkahawolf (03/23/2013) [-]
its along the same page as the joke where you run up to someone and ask what year it is then shout "IT WORKED IT WORKED" and run away
User avatar #79 to #73 - dazbones (03/23/2013) [-]
Basically someone came up with the idea that if they could save somebody's life, much like this dude did, they'd speak into their watch or something like that as if they were from the future by hiding behind something and looking like they disappeared. Thus fooling people into thinking that this person was just saved from certain death and has some kind of significant impact on the future. If that made any sense at all.

There's a story you can find online about a man pretending to be a time traveler after saving a woman from being hit by a bus. He asks her to sign her name onto his pda to confirm the preservation of her life and walks off before she can really process what's happened.

It's a thread from /b/ where a guy is wearing a suit and saves a woman from being driven over by a car. He then asks her to sign something on his smartphone and says she has a brilliant grandchild. She says she has none, and while walking away he says "But you will have."

I like the one where he chases a girl at the gym with an rc heli while eating a hotdog or something.

It is a classical irl troll where random luck can be turned into a glorious mindf*ck. The goal is to save someone from serious danger, like a kid running into traffic, and then saying something meaningful like "you need to take care of yourself", then, walk a short distance away and touch your ear or whisper at your wrist something like "the emperor is safe" or "the target has been protected, agent 47 out". Then scurry off before they can find you. The person or others around them will think you are some time agent or something here to protect someone of great importance. The best one ive ever seen done was a guy probably only 16 wearing hipster clothes saw a girl i was with almost fall into an open sewer. He grabbed her by the wrist and quickly looked at me to say "you've got to take better care of grandma, grandpa". He then covered his mouth and ran off into the distance before she could catch him. I had known what he was doing we started crying. She thought it was our grandchildren here to rescue us, and i was just trying not to laugh. I can't tell you how long i was able to play the "we are meant to be together" card until she saw it here on fj one day. Honestly one of the best trolls of my life

I am new to this knew thing that he references as a meme. I've probably not caught up on the recent events around the web but I would like someone to hold my hand and guide me to the genesis of this.

There used to be a fad going around the internet, where if they could do something life save someone's life. They will do and say what this man did. Then run around a corner or something to make it look like they vanished. It's a way of doing something nice and getting a good laugh out of it.
User avatar #58 to #57 - anonemous (03/23/2013) [-]
if you do this type of thing as the rescuer, you are supposed to pretend you came from the future to prevent the event, leaving people to think that something significant happens due to the one being rescued
