OP is a faggot. So is everyone who liked this post.

Did OP forget about Underworld? Where Vampires and Werewolves (Lycans) were depicted in the most epic way possible? What about TrueBlood? What about Beowulf? What about the Brothers Grimm? District 9? War of the Worlds? ANYTHING? Why are you so fixated on only the most popular teen movies? Take your head out of your ass you walking bag of anal pus. There is plenty of good movies that depict these creatures in many different awesome ways. Same rule applies for music, music and movies haven't died there is just a much larger selection that leaves a more movies that you will either dislike or like.
PIC RELATED.

Jesus. ******* . Dicks.

You complain about this like those are the ONLY werewolves, vampires, aliens and witches that exist in ANY modern media. What ******* sheltered life do you live that those are the only examples you witness?

This is exactly the same as when people bitch about how modern music sucks dick. There's a ******** of new stuff out there for you to experience, not just one type of thing.

It's the simplest kind of fallacy. You take one arbitrary example from one set and another arbitrary example from another set, compare them and say "WELL THIS OTHER ONE SUCKS THE FIRST SET IT BETTER."

I read them too, and I did it because I wanted to know why everyone and their mothers loved them, and to be honest, I like them, they aren't freaking amazing but they were an interesting read. I neither love or hate them so I see things neutrally which is why I laugh at both haters and fangirls/boys because both are right and wrong but are freaking the **** out.

My only problem with this and posts like it are the comparisons and thrashings of the wolves in Twilight. 1. It is even said in the series close to 10 times that they are NOT werewolves of any kind. and 2. The wolves are based on real Native American folklore (and yes the tribe in the series is a real tribe in that area of the country). The only big difference is that the legends all have nothing to do with "vampires". So while I am no fan of Twilight, as someone of Native American heritage I do get a little upset at people's thrashing of the wolves.

tl;dr : The wolves aren't werewolves so stop nitpicking at them.
User avatar #100 to #77 - asasqw (03/20/2013) [-]
As a general mythology fanatic I concur. They are plainly stated as shape sifters. In order to be a werewolf one must be half man half wolf at time of transformation. Also a proper werewolf has no control once in said form and cannot change forms willingly; a lycan can do the for mentioned.

Is that movie real? I want it!
User avatar #206 - ButtonFly ONLINE (03/20/2013) [-]
I'm just gonna point out that the books never actually said Jacob was a werewolf and Stephanie Meyers did come out and say that neither Jacob nor anyone from his clan are really werewolves. According to her they're just shapeshifters who all happen to only have the ability to turn into wolves. I guess they're kinda like animagi but with mind-reading powers.
I decided I could roll with that.
User avatar #226 to #206 - liamkelledz (03/20/2013) [-]
I always wondered that. I always thought werewolves never really had that much control over lycanthropic powers and that they were always part human part beast, not just big wolves
User avatar #231 to #226 - ButtonFly ONLINE (03/20/2013) [-]
Yeah, I thought it was weird too but she was able to dispel the rumor and actually kinda explain what's going on. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense but it explains more than just being a werewolf.

I'll write what I can remember of the explanation, feel free to skip it if you want.

If I recall correctly the second book explains that when the Native American Tribe first met the Cullen Vampire Family hundreds of years ago the tribe never before could turn into wolves. It wasn't until after the initial meeting did some members of the tribe somehow become possessed by wolf spirits. These wolf spirits existed solely to protect the Tribe from the Vampire threat. With these wolf spirits they learned they can destroy a vampire via dismemberment and burning.
Vampires and Wolf Shape Shifters both saw each other as a threat but were able to sort out a peace treaty so that the Vampires will never encroach on the Tribe's land again.
When Edward Cullen trespassed on Native American soil a couple of centuries later the wolf spirits reawakened and possessed new bodies to serve and protect the tribe again. This is were Jacob and his buddies came in. The Wolf Spirits permit whoever is playing host to take on the form of a wolf at will, the spirits all also share a psychic link which is passed along to their human bodies but these humans can only ever share the link when in their wolf form.
Also they can imprint on random people for some inconceivable reason.

This might be horribly inaccurate as I haven't read the book in years and don't intend to pick it up again. I was also incredibly distracted because when reading this myth I couldn't help but notice that Stephanie Meyers misspelled her chief's name and that just wasn't cool.
I was paid a whole package of Oreos for each book I read. I stand by my choice.
User avatar #232 to #231 - liamkelledz (03/20/2013) [-]
Hopefully now people will stop calling them werewolves at least. Oreos are oreos, i saw the first film and that was enough. That film kinda took 'super massive blackhole' down a peg as well, such a good song tainted by that film.
User avatar #233 to #232 - ButtonFly ONLINE (03/20/2013) [-]
The film was actually delightfully goofy in comparison to the book and the cheap effects helped make it funny.
I didn't see any of the films after that. By that point I convinced my little sister that this movie wasn't worth her time so we didn't go any further than that.
Knowing a bit of what you don't like doesn't hurt. It gives you a better leg to stand on in debates and you can dispel any unnecessary rumors involving werewolves.
User avatar #237 to #233 - liamkelledz (03/20/2013) [-]
Wasn't the worst film I've seen, the main reason for me watching it was that paramore did the song 'decode' for it and i was quite a fan of them at the time. I have had the whole werewolf/shapeshifter argument with people who have read the books and seen the films and eventually i just gave up with them. Good to see some people with a knowledge on the subject.
User avatar #245 to #237 - ButtonFly ONLINE (03/20/2013) [-]
You could still enjoy the sing without the movie but of course, by the usage of past tense I can guess you grew past them.

And thank you, I do enjoy a good debate when it comes to things such as fantasies, fairy tales, myths and monsters so I try to keep myself reasonably educated in most areas of the field. Twilight is something that cropped up a lot in the past so people did often want to talk to me about the books.
User avatar #247 to #245 - liamkelledz (03/20/2013) [-]
I still like them but i have moved on a bit. Myths, legends and the paranormal have always been an interest of mine. I want things like that to be real but i am yet to see good evidence of them. I sometimes go on /x/ but there is rarely a good thread on things like that, it's usually just dreams, creepypastas and ask a _____ anything.
User avatar #252 to #247 - ButtonFly ONLINE (03/20/2013) [-]
I'm familiar with various neurological disorders that mimic that of monsters such as the famous story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as well as Vampires in an extremely general sense but I doubt we will ever have concrete proof of one of our famous beasts from folklore actually exist.
It's a shame as I agree, the world would be far more interesting if fantastic creatures existed like they do in Spiderwick. Still, it never hurts to fabricate your own reality and write a story conveying your beliefs.
User avatar #254 to #252 - liamkelledz (03/20/2013) [-]
We can only hope for proof, who knows, one day we might get it
