To people who thumb this up: Jesus ******* Christ, grab yourself out of your self-made sea of pessimism. Not everything is so bad in the world. The fact that you're sitting here reading this means that you are well-off enough to afford a computer and an internet connection, and have enough spare time to browse this site.

Let's look at a few of these quotes:

"Everything is getting worse" Okay, George, because no scientific advances have been made in the last century that have improved our quality of life...

"The system is rigged" I know quite a few people who have reached success through hard work. In most cases, if you work hard enough, you'll get over those hurdles.

"All teachers are incompetent" Umm... No. He's obviously never had a competent teacher, or was too goddamn distracted by his self-pity when he was in school to see those who were. That's like somebody with a bad back saying "All beds are uncomfortable."

"God doesn't care" Whatever you believe in, I think you'll agree that no person can say what any god cares about or doesn't care about. How would he know?

I know I'm ranting, but although I'm pessimistic quite often, I don't act like all is lost -- unless your life is truly ****** , you have no reason to act like life sucks.

WARNING: OPINION!

Although George was a pessimistic guy, he had good arguments about a lot of things. His pessimism was the only thing that really bugged me about him. However, that does not mean that I agree with optimists. Optimists generally like to ignore the bad in things, and I think that nothing should go unchecked, whether good or bad. People should try to look at both sides and try to work it out thoughtfully, rather than complain and give up when something looks bad overall or assume things will turn out fine just because the pros seem to outweigh the cons.

He isn't saying that teachers are all completely useless. Even the best teachers will struggle with many of their work and students. Every person, including the most intelligent, is incompetent to a degree. It's just that many people don't seem to realize that. People tend to ask teachers for questions that teachers can't answer because people under the assumption that they are competent enough to know simply based off of their title. That is what George is trying to say.

I can agree with the other quotes you pointed out, except the "system is rigged". To say you know a few successful people doesn't prove that the system isn't rigged. One cannot be rich if the majority isn't poor. The rich more from the whole, leaving less for the poor. Those who are rich will not easily give their wealth up, so they'll try to keep the poor at the bottom without upsetting them. Just because a few struggled to success doesn't mean it automatically becomes fair for everyone else.

Gotta agree with you. I like watching Carlin's stand ups, but I feel like he always just shat on everything, which is fine. Most comedians do. But he was so opinionated that I feel like he should have suggested some kind of alternatives instead of just relentlessly ******** on other people's stuff. For instance he constantly bashed religion and people following it just to have hope and be happy, yet he seemed like the most miserable man in the world. lol.

Why hate people who our proud of their own country? I understand not liking those that just go over the top with it, but what's wrong with having some pride in your nation? I mean, America definitely has it's problem, but I like it. There are worse places I could live in. Let's get some things straight:

There are good things and bad things in the world.
Life is luck of the draw.
You can work hard but there is a difference between a middle class white kid and Vietnamese immigrant. Hell, circumstance counts for a lot. Race doesn't really have anything to do with it, but for sake of example.
For the most part mankind and civilization are going down hill. Anyone who doesn't realize this is in denial.
Pessimism isn't healthy, but blind optimism is half of the reason nothing ever improves.

Life can really be **** for some of us, and really great for others.
Not everything is black and white.

I write this because this'll probably hit the front page. The "oh my gosh you guys are so negative life is great" people really annoy me. Everything aught to be taken into consideration. And its not like all of our lives are the same. At least thats what I think.
