not even. "we don't take anything exept Xbox360, PS3, Wii (that'll be gone soon), WiiU, PSvita (fail of a product and SONY knows it), DS/DSi (also goin' to disapear), 3DS, and iproducts. Did i forget PC? that's because Steam is kicking our ass in that category so we don't even bother with it. Would you like to reserve, purchase a membership, or ad a waranty on our product before my manager shoves a pole up my ass for not bending the will of every customer that comes in?"
TLDR: working at Gamestop sucks.
Bright side: discounts on games, rent used games for free, and i get to see the life get drained out of children's eyes when i don't sell them rated M titles and convince their parents not to get it for them either, because "people on line are VERY rude". HA
#30 to #16 - anon (03/16/2013) [-]
Steam isn't the reason why they don't buy PC games. They never bought used PC games because they're way too easy to copy and crack. People could just buy a new game and try to sell it back immediately after they installed it. Steam IS kicking everyone's ass at PC games, but it isn't the reason Gamestop doesn't take them.

If you think about it, it makes sense why they wouldn't give you a lot of money for old games. They pay you depending how easily and for how much they can sell the game, and ps2 and gamecube games don't sell that well today. It is the same logic behind pawn stars. When the expert tells you that a collector will buy this for $10,000, that doesn't mean the pawn stars will buy it for $10,000. They have to sell it again, and they want to make money. If you don't like the deal, don't sell it to someone who is looking to re-sell it, and use ebay or craigslist instead. You'll usually get more money, because the people on ebay aren't looking to re-sell. It's just how business works.
User avatar #106 to #27 - dadukesta (03/17/2013) [-]
They sell directly based off of supply and demand.

Seriously if demand for a game is high the price goes up. Demand is down the price goes down.
User avatar #43 to #27 - kentravyon (03/16/2013) [-]
Also if you want a quick sell, There are small chains that specialize in old games, that can give you quick cash / trade at a more reasonable rate (but still less then to an individual)
User avatar #67 to #27 - biggydy (03/17/2013) [-]
I understand that, but the ******* at Pawn Stars are way too greedy. Like, a guy comes in with a Sword worth $15,000, and if they wanted a nice profit they'll buy it at $8,000 or $9,000, but nooo, they are like "The best i can give you is $2,000" and the idiot guy that owns the sword accept it.

Like how many people go in the pawn shop to buy $15,000 swords. How much he's going to sell the sword for and how much he's going to accept from the first person that offers to buy it for a bit less than the advertised price. Like the condition of the sword, what it's value is in that condition or maybe it's missing a certain piece that would make it worth $15,000.

A woman once went into the pawn shop and wanted like $1,000 for some piece of jewelry and Rick offered her like $18,000. They always try to buy it for 50% of what it's worth and never buy it for more than 2/3rds of what it's worth .

Not sure what the problem is. Although I don't trade games in for money. I trade games in for other games when I get bored of them. The only time I spend money on games is when I preorder brand new ones.

At the Gamestop I go to, I traded in 2 old wii games of mine and was able to get Gears of War 3 for like 5 bucks, and this is when Gears 3 first came out. Which in my opinion is a very good deal.

It actually makes sense that they dont give you ********* of money.
If you're trading in a game, it means you don't want it, which (usually) means it's ****** or old.
Plus they have to make a profit, they're buying the games to resell them.
And finally, they don't half half bad prices considering all that.
I got a bit over $130 in instore credit from trading in my old dsi and 9 games.
Pretty good price without the hassle of ebay or craigslist.
User avatar #122 to #89 - bobbybeats (03/17/2013) [-]
How do you you feel about those people who try to sell a copy of a ps1 game worth maybe 30 dollars but are asking for around $200 on ebay?
User avatar #126 to #122 - ovary (03/17/2013) [-]
its all about supply and demand
It's very unlikely they'll be able to sell a ps1 or even ps2 game.
if someone wants to buy a specific ps1 game it's unlikely they'll drive down to gamestop, they'll check on ebay, or a similiar site.
Gamestop is for the masses, not for the collectors.
Besides, they don't even buy games from previous generations where I live.
User avatar #127 to #126 - bobbybeats (03/17/2013) [-]
They don't sell older games by me neither. I just wanted to know what your opinion was on that because you said some solid stuff in your post that I agree with.
User avatar #128 to #127 - ovary (03/17/2013) [-]
ahh, after rereading, i realized i misread your question.
Sorry about that.
For the people selling their games on ebay asking for $200 bucks? I dont give a **** , they're probably not gonna sell **** unless they lower their price though, but they can try.
User avatar #136 to #89 - darkangeloffire (03/17/2013) [-]
Thank you. Honestly, I use gamestop because I like their service. Thanks for explaining it all because I wouldn't have the first clue how to explain it.
User avatar #104 to #89 - obliquezombie (03/17/2013) [-]
I'm in total agreement. It's ignorant and childish to think you'll get full price or anywhere close to it when trading in a game.

They're a business, after all. A lot of gamers forget that about a lot of companies.
User avatar #105 to #104 - ovary (03/17/2013) [-]
whew, at least somebody gets it.
