Digit rights management. From my understanding, it basically meets that companies can control what you can do with certain digital media and devices. EA's example is that SimCity can not be played without connecting with their servers even if you want to play single player.

i legit think we are better off without half-life three, it's gotten to the point where there is so much hype surrounding it, when it comes out anything that isn't a god-tier game will be widely considered a flop and attract much hatred and possibly kill the IP

year 0-1000 - 1st
year 1000-2000 - 2nd
year 2000-3000 - 3rd
3000-4000 - 4th
.. So actually it's the fourth millennium.
and the 31st century.
User avatar #136 to #20 - novren (03/10/2013) [-]
Excuse me, but the 4th Millenium starts on 3001, so if Futurama is set on the year 3000 it's still 3rd millenium.
#143 to #136 - mattkingg **User deleted account** (03/10/2013) [-]
No, because the 3rd is from 2000-3000
in the year 3000 on the 1st of January it will be something like 3000.0000000000000001 so it's still over 3000, so it's in the 3000-4000
User avatar #150 to #143 - novren (03/10/2013) [-]
Milleniums start the -001 year, not the -000. The last year of every millenium is M-000, and the first of the next one is N-001. Same for centuries.
User avatar #158 to #150 - Viggiator (03/10/2013) [-]
Okay, so let me put it this way
year 0-999 - 1st
year 1000-1999 2nd
year 2000-2999 3rd
year 3000 - 3999 4th
User avatar #159 to #158 - novren (03/10/2013) [-]
Nope.
It's like this:

year 0000-1000: 1st
year 1001-2000: 2nd
year 2001-3000: 3rd
year 3001-4000: 4th.

Think about it: the year 0000 DOES NOT EXIST. Therefore, in order to get a thousand years to fullfill the 1st millenium, you must start every millenium by the year 1.
User avatar #164 to #159 - Viggiator (03/10/2013) [-]
The year 0000 does exist.. It's year 0.
In christianity it's known as the year jesus was born. Not that I believe that, but that is none the less, the reason of our year count.
User avatar #167 to #164 - novren (03/10/2013) [-]
Every millenium starts on the year M001. Look:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium#Viewpoint_1:_x001.E2.80.93y000

"Those holding that the arrival of new millennium should be celebrated in the transition from 2000 to 2001 (i.e. December 31, 2000), argued that because the Gregorian Calendar has no year zero, the millennia should be counted from 1 AD. Thus the first period of one thousand complete years runs from the beginning of 1 AD to the end of 1000 AD, and the beginning of the second millennium took place at the beginning of 1001. The second millennium thus ends at the end of the year 2000."
#172 to #167 - amazian (03/10/2013) [-]
u sourced a debate which doesn't really say which argument is 100% correct. there's merely two viewpoints supporting their beliefs. down below viewpoint 1 is viewpoint 2 which is the other side so i dont get what your trying to prove with your link.
User avatar #173 to #172 - novren (03/10/2013) [-]
Yeah, there are two points of view.
So, we're both right, I guess.
Anyway, the way that is taught at school where I studied and where my brother studies now is that millenia start on the -001 year.
#181 to #173 - amazian (03/10/2013) [-]
it essentially comes down to which viewpoint you prefer or what was always taught. they both are 1000 years so techinally they are both right, just what year you start is the difference.
User avatar #435 to #181 - novren (03/11/2013) [-]
The point is: according to the Gregorian calendar (in which our calendar is based), the year 0 did not last a single 0. Therefore, in order to cover 1000 years, if you start on the year 0, you must go until the year 1000, and then the next one start it in 1001 until 2000, etc.

IF YOU DON'T, if you go from 0 to 999, the 1st millenium will only last 999 years.
#405 to #167 - anon (03/11/2013) [-]
well the way i see it, it's well known that something like the year 2000 is the 21st century, and 1999 in the 20th century, so thats how id apply it to millennium.
User avatar #433 to #405 - novren (03/11/2013) [-]

User avatar #434 to #401 - novren (03/11/2013) [-]
IT STARTED ON 2001

A lot of people complained because lots of people celebrated the start of the millenium the 1st of January of 2000 when it should have been in 2001.
User avatar #332 to #136 - thundagawd ONLINE (03/11/2013) [-]
It might have been set in the year 3000 yes, but they were at year 3004 by that episode.

Though this particular flashback was about the 2980 Olympics, so you're technically correct in regards to the 3rd millenium in this case.
#283 to #136 - anon (03/11/2013) [-]
Only the first season of Futurama was in the year 3000. The year in an episode of Futurama is the same year that episode was made + 1000 years.

I think they had a hand, but Bioware sort of ****** themselves with the story of ME2, 2 and a half years go by and the council just acted like the reapers weren't real instead of preparing for them, then ME3 rolls around, the reapers are here, no one is prepared, and at that point they pretty much had to pull a stunt like the ending to dig themselves out of the massive hole they were in.
Don't get me wrong, I hate the ending with a bloody passion, I'm just saying that bioware screwed their own story pretty well.
