I think it was Hitchens who said:
Once you tell me why you don't believe in every other god made up by man, I'll tell you why I don't believe in yours.

Hey, i'm a christian, and i believe that many of the older gods like Zeus, Ra, Thor, etc.
No i do not believe that they were Gods but were ether beings of power or men that ether had power or just had a glory bestowed upon them that had men worship them.

I'm not entirely sure all my facts are straight, so please correct me if i'm wrong. I genesis, it speaks of the half breeds of humans and angles that were known a the Niphelim, and they were men of great power. a theory I've been cooking up is that they may be the basis of the gods like Thor or Zeus. Especially since they are said to have been born of even more powerful beings.

Another theory is that God never "actually" said that the gods other people worshiped were nonexistent, but simply false gods.

Wow that's a pretty well thought out, lucid theory to explain their existence. There's no real evidence to support it, but I applaud the critical/creative thinking that it must have taken to come up with it.

There isn't any middle ground here. You either are an atheist or you are not.

You're right. There is agnostic as the other dude briefly mentioned. That is the middle ground you are referring to. Atheist is saying "There is no God". Theist is saying "There is God". Agnostic is saying "I do not have a strong personal view on God".

Even the Greeks admit to a single creator. That is the god that most people worship.

#39 - ageofthegross (03/09/2013) [-]
if i remember rightly there are around 900 gods and deitys worshiped around the world, atheists believe in none of these, Christians (for example) just worship 899

Two things- It's call FUNNYJUNK. Not CONTROVERSIAL-JUNK. So can you guys please put funny stuff on here.
And number two, there is a large difference between Christianity and other religions. Most religion believe that you can get to heaven through doing works. But Christianity says that the only way to heaven is Christ.

Okay I'm usually all for religion bashing posts but this isn't even slightly humorous. There wasn't even an attempt at a joke, this was just a Dawkin's quote. Go to a website centered around religious debate, I can here to laugh not to read atheists cliches.

Ive never posted on this website but feel I have to for this post, not worth making an account over though.

This post is incorrect though, as some religions believe that all gods (Egyptian, Greek, Roman) Are all just an aspect of the same being. That that being is so great in scale, that it must be broken up in to multiple personalities, because the vastness of the energy would be to great.
