I think it was Hitchens who said:
Once you tell me why you don't believe in every other god made up by man, I'll tell you why I don't believe in yours.

Hey, i'm a christian, and i believe that many of the older gods like Zeus, Ra, Thor, etc.
No i do not believe that they were Gods but were ether beings of power or men that ether had power or just had a glory bestowed upon them that had men worship them.

I'm not entirely sure all my facts are straight, so please correct me if i'm wrong. I genesis, it speaks of the half breeds of humans and angles that were known a the Niphelim, and they were men of great power. a theory I've been cooking up is that they may be the basis of the gods like Thor or Zeus. Especially since they are said to have been born of even more powerful beings.

Another theory is that God never "actually" said that the gods other people worshiped were nonexistent, but simply false gods.

I've literally been telling people the same thing for years and both Christians and Atheists have told me I'm stupid for thinking so. I read the Book of Enoch and there are actually several different races of demigods that were spread throughout the world.
User avatar #43 to #7 - daentraya (03/09/2013) [-]
Wow, you should be a writer with that imagination. It could be quite fun to read a merged story, as long as you dont thwart the nordic gods like the superhero thing going on with Loki and Odin. I always appreciate some creativity
So, why are you actually christian? Why did you pick that one, instead of going with another as a main faith, or one of the other religions going on with jebus and god like islam?
User avatar #52 to #43 - darkrighteosnight (03/09/2013) [-]
Wow, thanks dude. I have actually considered it once or twice.

And the reason i am a christian is because of two reasons. 1 is because of the classic i was raised in a christian home and 2 is (kinda hard to believe) a supernatural occurrence happened around me. not going into great detail but i think i think i was attacked by a Demon.
User avatar #53 to #52 - daentraya (03/09/2013) [-]
Reminds me a bit of early islam. It was made to include all religions and eliminate the chaos with it
1 doesnt sound like a valid excuse to be a christian. That way, its merely something that was bestowed upon you. And two is.. Odd, to say the least.
User avatar #55 to #54 - daentraya (03/09/2013) [-]
But since you just claimed to suspect a demon attack.. Could you tell me some about it? I really need some inspiration on such things. I would greatly appreciate this for my story
User avatar #56 to #55 - darkrighteosnight (03/09/2013) [-]
Um ya sure.

It happened when i was 16. it was February. My parents and brother were out of the house that night and i had just gone to sleep. It was about 1 o'clock in the morning when i heard my door open. thinking it was my cat, i got up to take her out because she has the habit of knocking everything over in my room. As I got up, my door shut. After searching my room for a moment, i decided that the cat left my room and a draft shut my door, so i went back to bed.
I woke up later, at about 3:30. I don't no why i woke up but i soon heard something like whispering, next to my bed. As i look over to where i heard the whispering coming from, there was ; what looked like, a shadow of a man. about as soon a as i saw it, i disappeared, but the whispering remained. I was freaking out and not what to do, i attempted to jump out of bed but as i was raising my self up, i was slamed back down.
It felt as though a large hand was forcing me down. The force covered everything from the base of me neck, to shoulders, all the way down to my stomach. Al my limbs went limp and the whispering became louder and louder, until it was a roar in my ears. saying: "hate, death, why, unfair, shut up, and you". It just kept screaming and roaring over and over again. As it went on and on , i did not know what to do. all the breath had escaped my lungs, my limbs were numb and i was having a full blown panic attack, but i could feel something happening. On my chest, where the force was holding me down, it felt like a needle was pumping something into my chest, my blood , my body. something thick and slow, and spread though out my body and only stopped ant my heart. with each beat , the substances pushed harder to reach my heat.
My mind was blank, except for the animalistic instinct that panicked and fought to survive. But there was a voice in my head, two voices actually. One said that i should just let it happen, that i would all be over if i just be all over if i just let it happen.
User avatar #57 to #56 - darkrighteosnight (03/09/2013) [-]
The voice was smooth but also had the rugh undertone of gravel and bone braking against each other.
The second voice was calm but urgent. "No, don't let it happen, you will die if it does. You have to say it for help, if you say it, it will leave, it's power will weaken, but you have to say it!" that was the only thing that registered before the roaring in my ears became so loud that i could not hear them any more.
All i could do was try to focus my thought and find out what i had to say.
As i began to think, trying my best to calm my self, the roar became angered, but also a hint, just a hint. Of panic.
Hearing it registered that it new something was to happen, the roar became " shut up, shut up, useless, die , unfair, die, shut up!".
suddenly, it came to me, the word was so simple, it was a name. But there was no breath to say it with. I could hear the two voices in my head become urgent but their words escaped my. with the very last of my energy, a whisper, just barley the sound of moving my lips was all i had, i whispered "Jesus".
The force on my body exploded against me with even more power, but my body , the substance in my chest, began to leach out. no it was being driven out.
With new found energy and hope, i said it again. "Jesus'.
The roar was so deafening that it caused my ears to momentarily become silent. but as my hearing returned, the Roar had changed again. "No, hate, you , hate, shut up, quiet, hate hate hate..." and on i continued. I felt to force increase with each second but the less it effected me. soon i could fully breath again.
Over and over again i said Jesus. then it turned into Jesus Christ. soon i was screaming incoherently about Jesus. the last thing i remember saying was " In the name of Jesus Christ, I command, I rebuke you..." and the more a yelled the less power i felt effecting me. I actually got up and began to push my self against the power, pushing into a corner, screaming.

User avatar #58 to #57 - darkrighteosnight (03/09/2013) [-]
the last thing i remember... was a bright flash of light, brighter than the sun, and a shadow, so dark that it was like staring into a black hole, it was shear darkness devoid of all light.
them everything was gone. all feeling, all sensation, and all the power that i was resisting. It was all gone, and every thing went black.

I wake up ant 4:48 that morning. laying in the middle of my floor. crying.
User avatar #59 to #58 - daentraya (03/09/2013) [-]
That is one odd ass story you have there.. Hmm.. Panic attack, paralysis, hallucinations.. Sounds like the feeling when people wake up in the middle of a lucid dream. The body is paralyzed from sleep, and the feeling will cause panic, and the mind is still in a mode of dreaming. If you're religious, the demon and jesus thing will be your natural way of thinking about it, and it mustve shaped the experience like that, too.
Now, why you had such an incidence, i dont know. I have never tried that myself, but it may happen in other ways than lucid dreaming. Do you remember having any dream before that?
User avatar #60 to #59 - darkrighteosnight (03/09/2013) [-]
I have actually waken up in the middle of a dream and had sleep paralysis, but it was nothing compared to that.
User avatar #61 to #60 - daentraya (03/09/2013) [-]
The mind sure is a strange thing, eh? Must've been utterly fascinating. I like nightmares, but that must've been over the top. I'd love to experience such psychological phantoms for myself
But really, dont see it as a demon attack. Be rational. There's a logical explanation to the sensation
User avatar #62 to #61 - darkrighteosnight (03/09/2013) [-]
Meh, that is the only rational thought i have about the whole thing, if it were simply lucid dreaming or sleep paralysis, i would have awoken in my bed, but i had awoken in the middle of my floor, and i have always been plagued by nightmares, even when i was a child but when a woke up i new the difference between reality and dreams. What happened to me was more than a dream, i know it.
User avatar #64 to #62 - daentraya (03/09/2013) [-]
I really want to know exactly how that felt like. I like psychology, you see, but i have no further qualified guess as to what happened
User avatar #65 to #64 - darkrighteosnight (03/09/2013) [-]
It really effected me psychologically.... being the plaything of ether a darker essence or of my own mind i don't know. It is just like becoming a puppet, losing all freedom and strength. Useless.

Ive never posted on this website but feel I have to for this post, not worth making an account over though.

This post is incorrect though, as some religions believe that all gods (Egyptian, Greek, Roman) Are all just an aspect of the same being. That that being is so great in scale, that it must be broken up in to multiple personalities, because the vastness of the energy would be to great.

Just a question from my side, don't most religions punish you for believing in another god? Or is it only Islam, Christianity and the like?
#42 to #37 - anon (03/09/2013) [-]
No, Pagan religions are based on believing more than one god. So you would not be punished if you believed in more than one.

So if some religions believe something, it's immediately true for all religions? Wow, stop the presses, I guess there doesn't need to be any more nonstop bloodshed in the name of religion. Pack it up guys, all religions are the same ruled over by anything the others say!

I don't know what you are talking about? I didn't say anything was true for all religions.

I stated that the picture, stating "We are all atheist's in some way or another" was an untrue statement. because some religions to this date, still believe in the older gods.

Ohhh I see what you're saying, that this, like every rule, does have exceptions somewhere. There are people out there who simply believe every single myth and god is real and true, regardless of when the advent of that god occured or what the myths surrounding them are. I've never met or heard of someone who simultaneously believes in Zeus, Odin, Quetzalcoatl, Flying Spaghetti Monster, Elohim, Ganesha, and Halley's comet, but I certainly can't disprove their existence.

I posted because I am Wiccan, and the Wiccan religion believes that The Goddess and God's energy are to great and vast to fit in to one being. So when the Greeks started worshiping Zeus, the personality of the God, formed in to Zeus. The name and form of "Zeus" was not always, but was formed after the worship of him.

In this belief, all Gods and Goddesses are one in the same. Just multiple personalities of the same God/Goddess .
#49 to #48 - teranin (03/09/2013) [-]
ok so just to be clear, you believe that the flying spaghetti monster is simply an aspect of the overall force that you conceptualize as god?

Well I don't believe in the Flying spaghetti monster lol. Though it would be nice if she looked like that picture :P.

Ok, That's fair, but that also means that you are an atheist in regards to Pastafarianism. Which means that the picture still holds true, although I'll admit just barely. My sister used to be wiccan but I guess I didn't ask her enough about it.

Also I totally love that picture too.

I am a christian and you make very good points. I understand that you might see it as having to have a punishment to do good but the teaching of the bible is not "Do good or be destroyed" it is "You do not do good so you will destroy yourself". The christian ideology is that God is a savior as well as a judge. I sincerely apologise if you feel like I am forcing my beliefs on you and that is not my intention, I'd just like to give you a taste of my perspective on the situation. Also, very brave for speaking your mind on a place like this. It could be dangerous.

i embrace peoples views
ALL VIEWS
and then write them down in my "morality notepad"

if i get this done by the end of high school then i have a great base for a university script under "religion and morality complex vols I-V"
what i want to do is get into the mind set of people and then use there beliefs to my advantage for when i...

No there really isn't.

The question is: Do you believe in a god?

Yes= Theist
No/I don't know= Atheist.

Atheist simply means you are not convinced of a deity with the current evidence. That is all.

You may be thinking of agnostic but all that is, is saying you're not sure if there can or can't be a god but that speaks nothing on belief. Hence why most, myself included, are agnostic atheists.

Apatheist. Apathy towards the belief in god/gods/deities/etc. I'm an Apatheist myself, I don't truly care whether or not god exists. It doesn't influence my life one way or the other.

Darwin said: "To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree."

Darwin was a professed agnostic, assuming you know what that means. In his book regarding the evolution of species (the one in which your misquoting), he goes on to say that highly improbable does not imply impossible. And nonetheless any god who created these things we deem improbable, would be less likely to exist than those said things he created. These are all things he discuses after further explaining his theses. Dawkins does the same as well in his book "The God Delusion." Both of these men share eerily similar views, although Dawkins is in fact an atheist. I suggest you read either of their premises in their respective books because it seems as if you have no idea what your talking about and are misquoting to try and win an argument you clearly have no business in.
