Actually, it escalated gradually.

Gradually isn't the antonym of quickly.
#27 to #26 - eluamous (03/07/2013) [-]
I...didn't say it was.

What I meant is that even though it was gradual, it doesn't mean it wasn't quick.

Taking place or progressing slowly or by degrees

Antonym of quickly.
User avatar #57 to #54 - mutzaki (03/08/2013) [-]
We both know what gradual means, and something gradual can very well happen quickly.

I thought about 3 months in summer, 3 times 30 equals ninety.

Note that I didn't say "EXACTLY THIS MANY DAYS" and I didn't really scrutinize my comment because I didn't know he would post it.

Still not sure what I could have said that led you to believe that I thought there were 400 days in a year, but okay man.
User avatar #45 to #44 - mjjrussell **User deleted account** (03/07/2013) [-]
because if it is 100 days till summer and 100 days till spring then you would have to assume that it would be 100 for winter and 100 for spring. But no worries i take back what it said. It is just one of those stupid things that bother me. we cool.

Someone's on a little tushy tantrum
User avatar #19 to #8 - wesleygibson (03/07/2013) [-]
Okay, first of all, there's a big difference between changing the word in the beginning that isn't part of the actual statement, just like a sigh.
Second, you're pulling quotes from some of the most inspirational and memorable movies of all time. Anchormen come nowhere close to being as great as those movies, so let it ******* go.
User avatar #31 to #19 - mynameislego (03/07/2013) [-]
I don't think you know but...Anchorman, is kind of a big deal...
User avatar #32 to #31 - wesleygibson (03/07/2013) [-]
it'd not though. "that escalated quickly" is not a memorable quote in the slightest. nobody heard it when first viewing and when "now that's gonna stick" no, it's a meme. one person found a quote from a movie that related to whatever they posted and it happened to be from anchorman. Again, it's a meme, a joke. A JOKE. nothing to be upset about.
User avatar #33 to #32 - mynameislego (03/07/2013) [-]
i dont enjoy listening to someone tell a joke when they don't know how to tell that joke, it ruins it. i heard and laughed at the line the first time I saw it, naturally it's not on the same level as the movies I quoted above, but I was over illustrating my point, it sounds ******* stupid when it's done wrong. And that's all I have to comment about that....see? that sounds ******* stupid. 60% of the time, It works every time. It's smells like big foots penis? NO, it smells like big foots DICK. and on that note, I'm retire from this thread, I bid you good day guy, til we bicker again, live lengthy and prosper or something right? whats the difference right? who ******* cares right?
User avatar #35 to #33 - wesleygibson (03/07/2013) [-]
it's still different. Would it be okay if I just quoted "That escalated quickly"? would that be alright? Am I damaging the word of the holy bible that is Ancherman for leaving out well and boy all together? What if I'm saying well, then using the quote, as in "Well, 'that escalated quickly'" That's not wrong. I'm not ruining the quote, but you ARE ruining those quotes and there are no loopholes around that.

Meme or no meme the movie that he was quoting says "Boy that escalated quickly."
User avatar #39 to #37 - blacklite (03/07/2013) [-]

User avatar #43 to #39 - thedarkestrogue (03/07/2013) [-] not.
User avatar #52 to #43 - blacklite (03/08/2013) [-]
I don't think that The Anchorman invented the phrase, while it definitely popularized it. All I'm saying is that he was loosely quoting it if anything. He probably didn't mean to quote it directly or reference the meme.
User avatar #53 to #52 - thedarkestrogue (03/08/2013) [-]
I have never, in my 21 years of life, heard anyone ever say it outside of the movie or a reference to the movie.
User avatar #55 to #53 - blacklite (03/08/2013) [-]
I've heard it plenty of times. "Escalating" can sometimes refer to a situation getting more intense and this has always been the case. I am nearly positive that the phrase "That escalated quickly" was around before the anchorman and has been used outside of reference to the movie. Just because you haven't heard anyone use it (Or more than likely don't remember it if you have) doesn't mean it's not a thing. It might just not be as popular of a phrase anymore outside of direct reference to anchorman.

Even if it WAS influenced by the movie doesn't mean he was making a direct effort at quoting it. Maybe he was alluding to it, maybe not.
User avatar #56 to #55 - thedarkestrogue (03/08/2013) [-]
Escalating is a word, yes.
You're saying that "Boy that escalated quickly" is a commonly used phrase.
