DLC on DAY ONE of release is such ******** . They just rip out "nonessential" parts of a game and resell them to you.

It used to be about breathing new life into a game. Now it's about preying on consumers.
#196 to #7 - firesky (03/03/2013) [-]
Even essential parts get cut out.

Mass Effect 3 for example. A living Prothean changes the understanding of the story in many ways.

One ******* thing I hated abut Far Cry 3.I got the DLC....only to find out it was actually on the ******* disc and I just unlocked it

Hurks misions, some new animals, tribal knife and lost expeditions was in it I think

Yet you retards keep buying it, then turn around and bitch about it.

#66 to #65 - Rascal (03/03/2013) [-]
that just about sums up every COD game.
User avatar #68 to #66 - splendiddust (03/03/2013) [-]
and im afraid to say all the halos up to 3, even then reach wasnt all that different
User avatar #75 to #68 - albeit (03/03/2013) [-]
But at least they had a compelling story they were telling. Except for the Modern Warfare games, there was no continuity in story between the COD games. That, to me, is what makes the biggest difference. But, even then, Halo still added in new features (duel wielding and vehicle jacking in 2, armor abilities in Reach, Im pretty sure 3 started the ability to detach turrets, as well as other things I cant remember or things in multiplayer which I rarely play) to their games as they went. While they may not have been ground breaking additions, they were still there. But, over all, I play Halo for an amazing story, and COD to waste time when I am bored.

Yeah, I didn't see yours until after I posted that.
User avatar #74 to #68 - sidekickman (03/03/2013) [-]
I disagree though, Halo usually added vehicles or improved things like Forge or Theater and had a strong enough community backing that those things made huge differences.
User avatar #81 to #74 - splendiddust (03/03/2013) [-]
halo although had more things change than just the guns and graphics when you think about it its still the same mostly wooden fps with new vehicles weapons and textures. but thats not the point of a new halo is it? the story line is the only part that has to change from game to game in my opinion
#159 to #81 - Rascal (03/03/2013) [-]
Yeah, because practically re-using textures, models, guns, sounds *MW series* of old games that are years behind the competition makes it's better than it's competitors who actually try to make changes to everything to improve and evolve their games.
User avatar #77 to #74 - albeit (03/03/2013) [-]
Although WaW did bring in Nazi Zombies, and BO2 added that mode where you play as a zombie just recently, so I guess you could give them credit for that. It still doesnt beat how Bungie/343 will make popular fan ideas official game modes, like Griffball and infected/flood mode. Plus they arent afraid to try out new co-op ideas like Spartan Ops and Fire Fight. And it is honestly just dawning on me how much of a Halo fanboy I sound like right now, lol.
User avatar #86 to #77 - splendiddust (03/03/2013) [-]
i sound kind of like a small hater at the moment im not. i know a rediculous amount about the halo background story but im not afraid to admit its flaws.
User avatar #92 to #86 - albeit (03/03/2013) [-]
It is impossible not to. Not only will some things necessary to the game cause some possible plot holes or retcons, but there are also some things that only some people see as flaws, while others love. Take COD for example, some people have no problem with the games being basically the same, sorta a "don't fix what isnt broken" kinda thing. Some people hated the stories of MW1, 2, and 3. Personally I loved them and highly enjoyed those campaigns. As long as people are unique, games and movies alike will be flawed.
User avatar #93 to #92 - splendiddust (03/03/2013) [-]
yeah the entire point of call of duty is a repetitive fps. and some people find that fun, i get bored of it after the first few days but yeah im not a big hater of cod but the thing i hate the most is the people who are like "HOLLY **** MODERN WARFARE 7 IS COMMING OUT I BETTER SPEND ALL MY MONEY" or the ones who are like "yeah my clans pretty top **** , we got this guy who did a 360 no-scope jump cross map tomahawk triple kill"
User avatar #79 to #77 - sidekickman (03/03/2013) [-]
Spartan Ops is a huge success in my opinion. It's an excellent way to keep players interested.
User avatar #84 to #79 - albeit (03/03/2013) [-]
Yeah, and while I havent gotten to play it since my internet is ****** and none of my friends live close since I left for college, what I have played solo has been alot of fun. Plus I love watching the cut-scenes. I am honestly very impressed with how 343 handled Halo 4, especially story wise. I will admit proudly that I got choked up at the end, and I can't wait to see what they do with the rest of the new trilogy.
User avatar #87 to #84 - sidekickman (03/03/2013) [-]
Yeah, but I hate to say that Master Chief can't last forever.
User avatar #90 to #87 - albeit (03/03/2013) [-]
Oh of course not. This is likely to be his last trilogy. Even in this one they show how warn down he is through his armor's damage, and the sounds it makes when he moves. I love how they are starting to show his humanity show through. And you have to give 343 props on how well they handled the end, which I wont say encase someone out their hasnt beaten in yet. It is definitely one of the best cases of sacrifice I have seen through videogames and movies. Most companies just cant pull it off well, it just seemed thrown in and doesnt fit well with the rest of the story (ME3 for example).
User avatar #88 to #87 - splendiddust (03/03/2013) [-]
the guys like in his late forties, i cant remember his exact age but yeah the guys getting old. personally though one game i would deffinately play is one through his childhood like when he was 6 and got abducted and training with kelly and sam

User avatar #142 to #107 - tylosaurus (03/03/2013) [-]
Actually, to me it seems like Bethesda fits where EA is in regards of Fallout 3.

I recently bought it and people are all like "You could as well just stop playing it now without the GOTY edition.".
Just saying.
User avatar #195 to #142 - neutralgray (03/03/2013) [-]
No. EA builds games and withholds content the game needs to fill complete. Bethesda makes a full and humongous game that can be explored for hundred of hours then gives you expansions on top of it if you want them.
User avatar #206 to #195 - tylosaurus (03/03/2013) [-]
I wasn't denying EA's "title" or saying that bethesda did it in general. Try reading it again.

#225 to #107 - ohitshim (03/03/2013) [-]
bethesda should not be on here, in fact, they're better than the 1999 dlc in this, all of their dlc's are like a whole other game and cost $10-$20.
User avatar #231 to #107 - legayunicorn (03/03/2013) [-]
EA is pretty crappy about DLCs
User avatar #273 to #107 - lilRican (03/03/2013) [-]
Dont most valve games with DLC usually come out free....

I mean sure opposing force and Blue shift, but that was a totally different era
User avatar #329 to #273 - bluenebula (10/15/2013) [-]
Most games today come out with what they call Day One DLC. It's DLC that literally comes out the same day as the game. This is not an actual download in the case of EA though. It's content locked on the disk that can ONLY be unlocked with extra money. Day One DLC always cost $20 for some reason, making a $60 game actually cost you $80. And god help you if they make you use Origin.

Capcop has pulled this ******** before too. They refused to unlock some characters on the disk of one of their Capcop Vs Marvel games. You would have to buy those characters as DLC, even though they were already on the ******* dick. They ****** over Xbox players though, not releasing the DLC for them. Meaning that there is a character on the game that is ON the game, but there is no way to play as that character. Ever.

check daggerfall and then check skyrim. there is single thing skyrim has better and that is graphics. other than that it was pretty much - lets add graphics and remove stuff from next game in bethesda. they are worst by far. I will only asume you put bethesda there by mistake or as a troll
User avatar #116 to #114 - bluenebula (03/03/2013) [-]
Excuse me if I'm not fresh out of /vg/. I don't play many video games. I never played Skyrim either, so I don't know what you're on about.
User avatar #121 to #107 - rploeger (03/03/2013) [-]
There's not that many valve games that have that have expansions, the only thing i can currently think of is episode 1 and 2 for half-life 2. I guess your picture is accurate if you don't like the story.
User avatar #122 to #121 - bluenebula (03/03/2013) [-]
I was thinking more about the picture itself. The add on there is a copy of the same bit of the game. In the case of Valve, it's hats. Hats. HATS! And little things like that. I know that is not all they do, but it's what they are most known for.

Aside form the lack of the number 3.
User avatar #123 to #122 - rploeger (03/03/2013) [-]
Yeah i suppose, but there's a lot more to valve than just TF2. I don't mean to turn this into an argument or anything though.
User avatar #145 to #122 - mahnamesjakers (03/03/2013) [-]
Yes, but some people also care about the really good gameplay mechanics of TF2 as well (such as myself) instead of cosmetic changes.
User avatar #312 to #145 - rploeger (03/03/2013) [-]
Some new weapons can really impact the game too. Huo Long Heater added some protection against scouts and spies for heavy for example. Right now the only thing that's not balanced is the minisentry in my opinion, but i believe that if it's nerfed it will probably be terrible, i don't see how they could balance it well...
User avatar #322 to #312 - mahnamesjakers (03/03/2013) [-]
The mini sentry should just be taken out imo, I've always just hated engineer all together.
User avatar #328 to #322 - rploeger (03/04/2013) [-]
Engineer is only annoying if you have a selfish team, like 3 spies and or snipers. 1 spy and 1 sniper is fine, 1 spy is actually really good to take out sentries, but they tend to just backstab people instead of taking care of engineers. A good spy can make almost any engineer ragequit if he commits to it, like when he dies and all his stuff is sapped you go to the spawn and follow him, preferably wait until he built some stuff again and then sap it.

User avatar #161 to #158 - slyve (03/03/2013) [-]

User avatar #290 to #186 - mondominiman (03/03/2013) [-]
There were expansions for the first half life game but it was from another characters perspective, such as HL:Opposing Force and HL:Blue Shift. These don't follow the main story it's more of a side story so it doesn't really expand on gordon freemans shenanigans. Plus it's not like they're gonna call it half life 2 episode 2 part 2

Bethesda is the savior of DLC's. They're actual expansions to the game that took them time to make.
User avatar #31 to #30 - roflnaut (03/03/2013) [-]
And their games are horribly bugged, so good luck actually playing the dlc without something breaking the game.
But they were still some of the best games I have played.
#42 to #31 - Rascal (03/03/2013) [-]
you try coding a 100% bug-free game like fallout or skyrim.....
User avatar #50 to #42 - roflnaut (03/03/2013) [-]
I am not asking for a 100% bug free game. I am just asking for them to fix a few blatantly obvious bugs.
For example, in Skyrim, there was a bug where Esbern didn't speak at all. This would be alright, except you wouldn't be able to progress any further into the game without choosing a side in the civil war, as there is a part in the meeting where Esbern is supposed to speak.
#35 to #31 - Neodude (03/03/2013) [-]
Atleast they try their best to get as much of the bugs fixed. I am going through college for game design right now, and one of the biggest things I have learned is that you cna spend years testing your game, and once it is on the market someone will always find new bugs, its unavoidable.
User avatar #48 to #31 - OminousDemon (03/03/2013) [-]
i haveto agree with you on that
despite there awesomeness when it comes to addons
the actual games are released before they are fully debugged (or even near it in skyrims case)

skyrim for instance when it first came out ud notice alot of textures missing and a bunch of bugs, it all got fixed eventually but still
User avatar #94 to #31 - TheMather ONLINE (03/03/2013) [-]
It's true that they're bugged, but at least they give you one of the handiest possible auto save feature and easy console access to correct it. It's better with a game with lots of bugs that you can circumvent yourself than a game where you're screwed the moment you encounter one.
#39 to #31 - jakeinthebox (03/03/2013) [-]
I've never had any problems with Bethesda DLC's breaking the game...
User avatar #40 to #39 - roflnaut (03/03/2013) [-]

Fallout new vegas, what about that? that game is huge, and so is the expaniion packs for that game, old world blues was a huge expansion pack, for about $10, now that is a deal, another reason why I like Bethesda softworks. P.s. EA can eat a grilled sick andwatch, with theri unfinished games, and sell dlc that should have alrady been in the game for an arm and a leg, and now they are making they games where you have to connected to origin at all times in order to play, **** that **** , and what if the game I am playing sin't even an online game? **** EA and it's greed.

I'm sure bethesda had a hand in it, but don't forget obsidian. Those guys are always screwed by the release dates publishers set and still manage to make incredible, if a tad buggy, games.

I have all the fallout games, playing NV again this time as a stealthy thief. game is so big and I've not got DLC yet.
User avatar #165 to #131 - synapse (03/03/2013) [-]
Not really, black ops 2 was completely different, I agree, It is starting to have lots of DLCs but still, It varies loads from other call of duty games. Actually, I don't get what the whole CoD Hate bandwagon is about. Treyarch makes great cods, it's IW that ruined it.
User avatar #180 to #165 - debramster (03/03/2013) [-]
No bandwagon. This is going to sound really hipster but, i´ve played call of duty since the first game. Back then around call of duty 2.. those were the best games!
User avatar #181 to #180 - synapse (03/03/2013) [-]
I agree. Quite literally IW ruined the franchise.

I say the took the approach of having a pretty good story, but failed in gameplay and multiplayer.
User avatar #316 to #259 - synapse (03/03/2013) [-]
And the whole thing that they are the same game over and over again.

WaW is my favourite CoD. Black Ops was terrible.
Modern Warfare 2 is one of the worst games I've ever played.

yes, I wasn't used to the ui and didn't know which map i was allowed to use, because whenever i launched quick battle or try browsing servers it didn't work. how was i suppose to know there was filter who disabled the servers i could join when i just bought the game ?

You mean the BF3 Online pass? Yeah all EA games need to have dlc to play online, but you should get a code in the manual.

and why the **** woulld they filtred the servers so i can't see the one i can join ?
User avatar #162 to #129 - skullzero (03/03/2013) [-]
It's pretty damn easy to figure out how to get online, took me like 5 minutes to set everything up and get in game when I got it for Christmas. Just because your internet sucks or you're not clever enough to figure out how to navigate through such a simple UI doesn't mean it's EA's fault..
User avatar #192 to #162 - dafunkad ONLINE (03/03/2013) [-]
no but why did they filter the servers so i could see onyl the one i coumldn't play ?

even cod don't do this.
User avatar #325 to #192 - skullzero (03/04/2013) [-]
It's real ******* simple, choose a map, game type, play. I always get a game that's almost full and doesn't lag. Now if that isn't good enough for you, go play your 2008 graphics, old UI, dumbed down game play, no recoil, and one gun sound MW3...
User avatar #63 - bloodspider (03/03/2013) [-]
