From what I remember in Titanic, there was room for both of them but the door or whatever she was on would sink because of their combined weight. Reason he wouldn't get on.
#3 to #2 - derpyllama (03/02/2013) [-]
They could have put their life vests under it.
User avatar #4 to #3 - wickkles (03/02/2013) [-]
Did they even have any on?
#5 to #4 - derpyllama (03/02/2013) [-]
Rose is wearing one in the screenshot up there.

Doesn't look like Jack is though.
User avatar #6 to #5 - wickkles (03/02/2013) [-]
I doubt 1 will help tho. =/
#7 to #6 - derpyllama (03/02/2013) [-]
Styrofoam has a density of ~100kg/m^2.
Say that the life vest has a volume of .05m^2

The buoyant force from that life vest would support about 45kg of their mass.

So depending on how much of a fat ass Jack is, and how close the board is to sinking now, it might be able to support both of them.
Maneuvering it into position would be difficult in water that cold, but might be possible.
User avatar #8 to #7 - wickkles (03/02/2013) [-]
Impressive, but I still think it wouldn't work. I bet it would still sink. Plus if he didn't die the movie wouldn't of been as big of a hit. So either way he needs to die!
#9 to #8 - derpyllama (03/02/2013) [-]
Maybe. Also realized that .05 m^3 is a pretty big life vest (50 liters of styrofoam ~ 13 gallons which is a bit larger than a small fishtank)

If they had both vests they could probably make it work. Or if they stole vests from other passengers. Haha.
User avatar #10 to #9 - wickkles (03/02/2013) [-]
Kill others for life vests! I like it!

if they had put the life jacket that rose had underneath the door they both could have lived long enough for the boat to rescue them.

I remember someone calculated this.
The thing was apparently on top of an air bubble or some **** , and someone figured it out, and it wouldn't sink.
User avatar #109 to #2 - cdlogan (03/02/2013) [-]
Mythbusters tested that. If they had put their life jackets on the bottom, it would've floated.
User avatar #139 to #109 - dayasalion (03/02/2013) [-]
too bad they're not scientist.

i wouldn't even have thought of that myself.
User avatar #177 to #109 - wickkles (03/02/2013) [-]

User avatar #134 - seniorpokeman (03/02/2013) [-]
First one:
Humpty Dumpty was a British Cannon.
It was the largest cannon they had, and it sat on top of a massive wall. When the wall was hit, Humpty Dumpty fell, and it's frame shattered against the ground. The King's men tried using their horses to gather the pieces, and pull them up to the top of a new wall, but they were unable to fix it. Either the horses weren't strong enough to move the massive pieces, or they weren't able to properly put them back together, because the frame was cracked. Don't remember which.

Now let's review:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall—
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall—
and all the kings horses; and all the kings men;
couldn't put Humpty together again—

Isn't that the movie that shows two cats ******* ?
#351 to #289 - murrlogic ONLINE (03/02/2013) [-]
Its a movie where an egomaniacal scientist with a god complex begins experimenting (IE exterminating) "inferior" races of cats in the most brutal way possible while his cat supports him

And a trippy very disturbing nightmare sequence where its nothing but a genocide of cats being used as puppets

I'm pretty sure anyone who thinks there was room for two people on the door never passed physics class.

BUOYANCY. It's not that there wasn't enough room, it's that there wasn't even force to keep the door afloat with two on top of it.

Maybe you could try actually watching the movie too, because Leo does try to get on the door, and it starts sinking.
User avatar #173 to #35 - giguelingueling (03/02/2013) [-]
Mythbuster did that myth.

The result : They could have both survived if they had put their personal flotation device under the door.
