How exactly do other creatures pollute? I don't think monkeys or squirrels are responsible for a continent of decomposing plastic in our oceans that may be responsible for the end of marine life as we know it. Every species does get sick, but only humanity is responsible for the engineering of chemicals and materials that create man made diseases and infections that have killed millions. Many of the other things you have listed off are only possible because of civilization, and industrial progress. And Civilization itself is not exactly a natural progress... It changed mankind's perspective from what the earth will provide to what man can provide from the earth, and since then we have not viewed nature the same. Everything is viewed as resource, something beautiful doesn't matter unless it brings profit. Don't let the popular environmental movement fool you, global warming is the least of our problems, there are much worse environmental and post-growth economic problems on our horizon. Don't get me wrong, I'm no misanthropist wishing for the eradication of humanity, but I know damn ******* well the earth would be better off without us and I won't be ignorant and apathetic enough to fool myself the opposite. It's just about trying to live in a more sustainable way that doesn't involve humanity living like a parasite to a host.

Humans for the longest time did what every animal did, **** everything else and survive. The difference is we were smart. We learned how to take the things around us and use them to aid us. **** the cold, **** the dark, **** you you and you who tried to eat us. We took all we could to stockpile in case we needed it later like a rodent with nuts. Only recently did we realize that we are the Master of our own survival not the world around us. We saw that it was our responsibly as the rulers of the world to protect those under our rule. We may not be perfect, but we are what we are.

You're a fool humans are nothing more then a plague that destroy and leave nothing but carnage behind them. We not only cuase(d) the extinction of thousands of animals, but to ourselves as well. True we can do amazing things , and true we are the best possible example of brain over brawn , but humans do nothing but break the seven deadly sins, but can you blame us? we are after all like that by nature. At of all living things in this world we are the only ones who defy nature, and in doing so destroy our mother.
#513 to #495 - xnotcreative (03/02/2013) [-]
I honestly don't understand peoples hatred towards their own species.

I guess it makes sense if you think about it... why would you ever love something that never loved you back? It's so much easier forcing animals to love you, rather than humans, right?

Also, you could reduce the speed in which this "plague" is growing by killing yourself. Your rotting body could create sustenance for the organisms dwelling around your area.

I guess you don't have to, it's not like you're going to procreate anyway, so spreading the plague really wouldn't be an issue for you.
User avatar #603 to #513 - mcstorms (03/02/2013) [-]
"why would you ever love something that never loved you back?" This line makes it sound like you think I have never been loved before. As if I come from a broken home , and my parents abused me. That's not the case not in the least. Let me explain this to you I hate humans because I can see us for what we are. We are animals warm blooded ruthless mammals. That stop at nothing to get ahead in life. Clouded in judgement by our own greed. Truthfully you are no different you try to act as if humans aren't what I said, but then you go and prove my point. Telling me to kill myself? if that's not a prime example of wrath then what is? Humans come and obliterate anything in their way. Forests, cities, even other people.
User avatar #540 to #513 - redrex (03/02/2013) [-]
i only hate us as humans because when aliens arrive, the humans are gonna be incredibly hostile towards them because in almost every movie ever, the aliens are assholes who want nothing but to kill us, and if they are being friendly, it's just a cover-up for their actual plans, of killing us all. There can be an alien race that never had any wars, but the moment they come here, they're gonna get welcomed with bullets and missiles and then kill us, because we're insecure assholes who will shoot anything that competes with our intelligence.

TL;DR: Humans are gonna be mean to aliens and we're gonna shoot them down when they arrive, which will cause them to counterattack and kill us. Humans are assholes and it is almost inevitable because of movies and **** . THAT'S the only reason i hate humans

we can't even be peaceful among ourselves, humans can't even get along just because what they believe/where they live/a lot of stuff. as it stands, I believe humans would be more hostile towards aliens then you expect
User avatar #632 to #586 - alltimetens (08/13/2013) [-]
I understand that I'm a bit late... but honestly, if we were invaded by aliens, the least we would do is come together and try to negotiate/compromise with the aliens. Movies are like that because that's what entertainment companies are all about. If someone created a movie about aliens coming to Earth and then nothing happens, no fighting, no war, or anything of the matter, then it would be BORING and nobody would watch it. Just because a movie depicts something doesn't mean that is how it actually is. If we made contact with extra-terrestrial intelligence, sure we would be uneasy at first, but we would definitely be non-hostile towards them because we would still be unsure of their capabilities.

We kill other animals for fun, We kill other people for fun, We are chained by other humans and forced to do their bidding, yeah we are civilized. The seven deadly sins are not man made Ideas they all exist in us. We just made them "important" , and I personally agree with it. They are all sins that we should not commit. Yet everyone of us does it. Imagine for a second a world where we weren't wrathful, or greedy, or lustful. what a perfect world that would be. No Hitlers, No Bernie Madoff's and no Josef Fritzl's. What we do is natural? Slavery, rape, murder yeah natural sounds about right. Humans defy their nature it's as simple as that. We aren't programmed to mate for life , and yet we try too. Humans think themselves better then all other animals, but were not .

Humans are the result of every bad thing an animal is capable of doing put into one thing."Everything forces others to do their bidding. The earth is made a slave by the gravity of the sun, the trees enslaved by the fertility of the soil, the ant is made a slave by the queen, the ribosomes are enslaved by the nucleus, it is a trend followed throughout nature. Things end, things control one another, that is nature." Are ******* kidding me? That's not even remotely the same thing people took other people and treated them like they weren't people. Also all the ******* examples you gave are a give and take relationship. For instance the sun traps the earth, but gives it life.

I call you a child because 1. I have a few years on you and 2. You are blind to the big picture. Ignorant to the true ways of people. When was I ever insulted? We believe in two opposite views. I believe you're views are wrong. It is as simple as that. It was not random name calling. Nazi's followed orders without questioning what they were doing. As much of society does today. I honestly don't care what you believe. You told your views , and then I told mine. Feel free to believe what you want I just think you are wrong. Why do I believe I am right? why do you not? People continue to prove again and again and again how ****** up we are. How ******* arrogant we are how down right cynical we are. "I would be surprised if you formulated 1% of what you believe." Not quite sure what you mean by that.

People are pathetic animals. The only thing remotely impressive about us is our brain, and even then the only impressive thing about it is that it gives us reason. People say human reason is what separates us from the animals. However their are people who don't listen to reason. Ignorant people such as Racists so tell me are they still people? or just animals?

"the earth is better off with us"
i'm going to tell you why you're wrong

the "beautiful secrets of the universe" only have meaning because we give it to them, they don't exist to be admired, they just exist
sure, humans try to help fix things, only after they're the ones that caused the problem though, wildlife habitats wouldn't be needed if we would stop destroying the land that these animals lived in, or if we stopped over catching/hunting/poaching these species

"the pollutants in the air were once in the soil" because that's where they belonged, then humans put them into the air, and just look at how healthy that air is for life..

humans **** things up for the entire earth, simply to make their own lifes easier, and then they try to fix the damage they did and then think they're doing the right thing, even though if humans never existed then there'd be nothing that got ****** up that needed fixing

In that comment of victory, you reply with only negativity. I ask why.
We are humans, guardians of all that exists. The roots of the planet have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun towards which all intelligence blossoms. And the impervious shelter beneath which it has prospered. We stand before you. Accused of a sin of ensuring human ascendancy. Of attempting to save other species from a certain fate where you are trying to force us to recede... Humanity stands as the greatest species on Earth, trying to eradicate us is a fools gambit. We squander eons in the darkness, while you try to suggest our triumphs aren't our own. The mantle of responsibility belongs to humans alone.
Think of our acts as you will. But do not doubt the reality. Our ascendency is only going to continue. And you are hopeless to stop it.

Not necessarily, maybe a species along the way that died out that was similar to homo sapiens, but even then, it was only through interbreeding with the other similar species that we evolved to what we are.

but it is correct. We wouldnt do all the things that we've done if God or evolution didnt want us to.
#425 to #415 - kirbizzle (03/02/2013) [-]
If evolution didnt want us to? You realise evolution is caused by random genetic mutations, the most optimal for the situation surviving and being passed on to further generations. And dont bother trying to bring religion into this, all that causes is a ********* of whether or not there is a God.
Do you realise how much more extinction has been caused by humanity? From all the hunting, for consumption, destruction of habitats, no species has come close to the rate of extinction that humanity has caused.

Whilst yes, humanity has achieved many amazing feats, it has been, so far, at the expense of nature.
User avatar #466 to #425 - oceanfrank (03/02/2013) [-]
It's not exactly random but it is quite a coincidence that such intelligent creatures have come to be and have thrived long enough to become what we are now. Also yeah humans have totally made animals more extinct than nature and other animals have. The permean extinction 200 million someodd years ago, yeah we totally caused that. The dino extinction 65 million years ago, yeah man that was totally us. The ice ages, hot damn we totally ****** the world up with that one. Species go extinct ALL THE ******* TIME, whether it be from humans, other animals, or NATURAL caused, most humans are at least trying to prevent those extinctions while all animals just accept it as part of life.
#470 to #466 - kirbizzle (03/02/2013) [-]
First of all, yes evolution is caused by completely random genetic mutations, there is nothing about them that is not random, an organism cannot will itself into a change. Do I actually need to go through evolution with you?

And well done on ignoring the fact that I said extinction caused by species. Im not even going to bother with responding to what you said, as all you are doing is ignoring what I actually say, and making it fit to something you think is correct.
User avatar #489 to #470 - oceanfrank (03/02/2013) [-]
What im trying to tell you is that human causes for extinction do not outweigh the natural cause and never will therefore whatever we do on this Earth cannot in any way harm it more than what nature has. secondly it might seem random but they aren't, mutations occur because of adaption to a habitat, not all of a sudden being born with a long neck or with claws you retard. I'm not ignoring anything you said I'm just telling you that you're retarded for thinking 1 species can do more harm to a certain planet than the entirety of nature can.
#498 to #489 - kirbizzle (03/02/2013) [-]
I never said they are all of a sudden born with a long neck, have you ever studied biology? The genetic changes that occur are random, those are the mutation, those that have that new trait, if it is beneficial will survive and pass on, this will continue and over a long period of time a species will gradually gain a longer neck. Holy **** your are a stress, you have no idea what you are talking about at all.

No, you actually dont know what you are talking about, I actually study biology at university, I know what ******* evolution is. You are a stress because you are wrong, go have a quick google of what evolution is. It will tell you that the mutations occur randomly, but evolution itself, the natural selection process, is not random. As I have been saying this whole time.

Notice the part where I said "no species has come close", last time I checked asteroids were not a species.
#444 to #436 - anon (03/02/2013) [-]
Well check again.
Anyways, introduce any superior creature into an environment it wasn't in before. It will dominate life in it's new territory, outhunting predators and over-eating prey. This happens with any creature in the world. Now multiply it to encompass the globe, and you've got humans doing what every other dominant species does; strangling out the rest. It's not untrue that humans are the only one's who try to do anything to prevent themselves from strangling too many.
#453 to #444 - kirbizzle (03/02/2013) [-]
Check again? Are you trying to say that asteroids are a species?

And yes, obviously introducing a new species to a habitat will generally dominate in it, as the rest of the species has not evolved to have a defense against them, especially with a species such as humanity. But the fact is, humans dont use the resources, the resource in this case being animals, in a sustainable manner, they hunt for fun, they over fish, etc.
#420 to #415 - anon (03/02/2013) [-]
That's not true.

Yet after all that we're killing, enslaving and torturing our fellow creatures who also share this world and we're headed towards self destruction. Technologically we may be on top, but morally we're bankrupt.

There have been more examples since that article, I assume you are talking about the one regarding the polar bears and the ice caps. The whole in the ozone layer, caused by humanity, is having a big impact on the polar caps. It is proven that the world is indeed warming, most scientists agree that its being sped up by humanity, others do not. So, as a species we would like for our animal/plant friends to be safe and ofr our human companions to be provided but we care A whole lot more about our own selves, that's why we won't stop destroying things until we absolutely realize that we're all gonna suffer the consequences, and it seems that point will be reached when situation is FUBAR. And truthfully I hope you can disregard all that has been said here and go on to live a happy and prosperous life.

If however these words eat you up inside and reduce you to the point where you have no will to live, I would recommend spending your life developing a zombie virus, releasing it to spark a zombie apocalypse. Finding a suitable sized horde and jump into it.

You don't know me, and you still have the audacity to make such a statement? I wonder why. Is it just because I tore down someone you idolized (yourself) for a few seconds?
User avatar #556 to #551 - rhetoricalfunny (03/02/2013) [-]
First, let's go with what I do know. You absolutely adore Ryderjamesbubble so much so that you go to prowl the replies searching for people who disagree, so that you can make pathetic, unthought-out comments that are completely irrelevant to what's being discussed. You seem to be unable to cope with the fact that people will inevitbaly disagree with this man. This leads me to believe that my previous statement about your reverance of this man to be correct. However I do not know this. This is only my own inference. And I am aware of this.

Now my comments about the suggested method of self abortion were satirizing your own. Nothing else. In fact I actually temper this by telling you the truth mid way. (in hindsight that switch method was probably too much for your pathetic mind to comprehend, so my apologies.)

And worst of all, I'm taking the time to reply to someone who doesn't even put the effort into coming up with his own comment. I'm actually wondering if you're capable of stringing together a line of complex thoughts.

User avatar #587 to #556 - vaultboyy (03/02/2013) [-]
You obviously cannot fathom that someone would not agree with you. I look for arguments because I agree with what he says, and people post their opinions. I also post mine. I am under the impression you are incapable of distinguishing intelligence from what you seem to believe is a complex mind made up of thoughts that would be sought after by the masses, the envy of those considered intellectuals. Actually, it's just YOUR brain. It is capable of telling your fingers to type, but it doesn't know much more than that. I am, in all honestly, and I can guarantee this, 10x more intelligent than you ever will be. You could not fathom what goes on in my mind. You are nothing to me. You are just another obstacle. You are another chess piece placed in front of me by fate to test my intelligence. I just made my move. I just won. You have been defeated. I did not give you an in depth argument because you did not even present a challenge to me. Why would I waste my time giving attention to your poorly thought out, invalid arguments? That makes me smarter, since I choose not to waste my time writing to those I find stupid. I have time now, but I may not later. So I hope this clears it up for you.

User avatar #596 to #593 - vaultboyy (03/02/2013) [-]
And you think all fallout fans agree with your thoughts on things completely unrelated to fallout? Unlikely. You are not smart. I am smart. You think you are smart. That's the difference between you and me, ******** .
User avatar #595 to #593 - vaultboyy (03/02/2013) [-]
I love fallout. It's been proven? really now? And I know there's more to learn, I try not to learn from those that do not get a point across or make sense. Also, excuse me if you do not personally subscribe to my honesty towards those who attempt to convey that they are more intelligent than me, but I am an INTJ. INTJ, the mastermind, one percent of the general population, ***** .
User avatar #592 to #587 - rhetoricalfunny (03/02/2013) [-]
You know, it's been proven that those who believe themselves to be smart, are in fact the stupidest humanity has to offer. You are a shining example of this idiocy. Preaching that you're smart, (You're ******* not) because you don't make an intelligent argument.

You are not smart.

It takes a smart man to realize there is always more to learn. You practically claim omniscience, which id ******* pathetic cause you do not even know how to form a proper sentence. (A "smart" man would, and could apply that into basic typing. But you're not smart, so you can't.)

You haven't posted a single opinion, you have just insulted people like a 3rd grade child.

"You could not fathom what goes on in my mind. You are nothing to me. You are just another obstacle. You are another chess piece placed in front of me by fate to test my intelligence. I just made my move. I just won. You have been defeated."

I almost died of laughter when you said this. I mean, honestly, do you seriously believe this **** . I mean, I know people are capable of convincing themselves of certain things, but come on. There is no way you can't see how stupid you actually are. I half expected you to start telling me about how you were in the Navy Seals and **** , and top of sniper school, blah blah blah guerilla warfare, hunting me down.

If you were smart you would know that intelligence cannot be quantitative, it is impossible to be "10x smarter" than someone, or even twice as smart.

There is something about you I cannot fathom though. How someone as stupid as you exists.

Alas I've decided to not waste any more time arguing with some ******* .

Now I'm going to go do something productive. Which is more than you are likely to do your entire life.

In honesty you kinda messed up in tearing down a person that has said a positive and well thought out and explained philosophical excerpt. You were doing good with supporting your opinion but you kinda fell out when you said after all the anti human stuff, then you say all anti human stuff is a bit in a moot point. Also you make us out to be a large like minded group that's doesn't care about nature. Compared to past global emissions from factories and cars, we have greatly improved. There is also no entire need for balance completely, for that's the thing about human, and mother nature's nature, we adapt to survive. Even if humans mess up the entire world, as long as there is a single microbe, mother nature can begin again.

TL;DR You kind of mooted your own speech, Mother Nature is most likely to compleatly screw us over before we do to her, and cheer up you too negative.
User avatar #560 to #543 - rhetoricalfunny (03/02/2013) [-]
I do understand that people are different, and there are people who are aware of these problems and are trying to find a solution. I just think it isn't enough.

And I'm certainly not anti-human. I've said it before, we need to find a balance. Because the way we are headed, the earth is due to run out of the resources our modern society needs. Oil, and Gas. Wood, clean air, water. These things are all in serious danger, despite the claims that there are policies, or measures put in place to protect them. (Though they help, they are only decelerating the process.)

We do need to find a balance. One where our biosphere can co-exist in harmony with the still globalizing world.
User avatar #562 to #560 - woofman (03/02/2013) [-]
But considering the major advancements in eco-friendly tech, and the more used renewable resources we should be golden. Oil and Natural gas can run out but not for a long while, and don't forget, as long as there is swamp environments, these resources can be made over time. forests can be replanted, Air can be cleaned over time via lower production from human stand points, and said trees, and technically water never runs out because of the water cycle, you just need cleaner areas which it dumps into which even then we purify it. Also, sorry it's just that what you said made you out as Anti human, which is what probably made people more negative/aggressive toward you (saying insults doesn't help prove your point either).
User avatar #572 to #562 - rhetoricalfunny (03/02/2013) [-]
Meh, I kinda like my red thumbs.

Its a common misconception that when an ecosystem is devastated it will repair itself. If we deplete the forests, poison the water, and use up the oil.

We will never see these resources again in our lifetime.

It is true that trees grow back, but they also rely on each other. Their roots tether the soil and when clearcutting, occurs it is a rare thing for even a single tree to grow back.

And There are very few water sources that are not polluted, and that number is looking to shrink further with the Canadian Bill C-45 (Which reduces the protected lakes and rivers from 2.5 million to 82) Truth be told I'm not an expert on water, and as much as I know the resource itself cannot be wholly consumed, I do know that drinking water is a consumable resource. (Which extends to impact animals who rely on it.)

If Oil and gas run out, they're gone, that's it, no more. We won't be around for the millions of years needed to see new oil. (Alternative energy is one of those things we need to look into, again, finding a balance.)

Air is one of those things we heavily impact that cannot repair itself unless we let it. Our emissions only continue to increase, despite the claims anyone makes to the contrary.

I think the only real point I want to strike is that we need to find a medium where we aren't burning through the world's resources. We need to first realize and accept that humanity is a parasite. So that we can make an effort to change it. Certainly there are some who have already done and are doing this, but not everyone.

Also, everything is made of star stuff, humans are natural, therefore cities are natural, synthetically created chemicals are natural, they are the product of a species which was naturally created, "unnatural" should only be used to describe stuff not from this world or science fiction dimension-traversing beings.

The point is, human beings are a simply way for the cosmos to know itself. The universe seems dead from an outside observer, but within a human mind, lots more is possible. Creativity, art, imagination, wonder, scientific observation, exploration, discovery, and possibly most important to us humans, feelings, emotions and experience. The universe could not be aware if it weren't for the intelligent life that it created - us. Yeah, I know, but I just thought that it's unnecessary to thumb down people who just have an another opinion.

If that's your opinion, then you should support thumbing people down so they might commit suicide.

Nah, don't feel like it.

See? Everyone talks about supporting the environment, but when it comes time to act, they just don't want to do their part.
User avatar #206 to #201 - suitcasethinker (03/01/2013) [-]
True. I want to do something, but I just can't get my ass out of my house and take actions. Of course, I can stop being on my computer and I can farm my own food and hunt and stuff, but I'm too lazy.

Don't worry. It would be no service to the world if everyone stopped using computers and started farming their own food. We worked hard for thousands of years to be lazy, and we're not done yet.

Very true.

You can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs. There's no such thing as clean, just clean enough. If you want to go live in the woods until you discover footprint-less growth, go ahead.
Pro Tip: It's impossible all the way down to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.
