I've always felt that if youre going to go live in a different country for a decent period of time (like more than 2weeks i guess) then it is your responsibilty to learn their language.

About 28 or so states have English as an official language though

But it is predominantly English, it is our national language, why else would our TV be in English, why would our president address the public in English, why would we break it down to use every aspect of it in our schooling system? Personally I hate when you can barely understand someone in a business or on the phone with a company. Also I hate immigrants and other illegal persons that come here for cheap labor.

I don't like it when americans or englishmen act arrogant and ignorant, because they have english as their national language... Mad because people don't spell perfectly or because they don't know english at all... They should feel lucky that english is as global language as it is. Happy that people learn their language and can communicate with them. The world would probably have been better off learning chinese.. Cause in a few decades it would most likely be more useful for everyone to speak chinese rather than english.

Im pretty sure Chinese is one of the hardest languages to learn is it not?

we should make one for the purpose of not putting up language barriers within our own country.

Yup. And in all honesty? I'm sick and tired of all these "hurr 'murica sucks" posts. I get it, America is a lie, it went down the ******* lately and was never as good as they overexagerated it to be. Now PLEASE STOP CONSTANTLY REMINDING ME OF THIS! it's like a very unfunnny bandwagon that never ends and only causes rage.

inb4 thumbs down for opinion

Compared to other countries, I would love to know "how it's not as good as it's cracked up to be" even with our economy in the ******* we still rank among the highest, and I don't wanna hear about little **** countries that run off of the oil that they were founded on where the economy runs off the rich people there.

english is the international language of business. So if some chinese guy when to russia and only spoke chinese that would be unacceptable. English is acceptable anywhere because it is the international language. In that sense no its not acceptable for a russian or chinese individual to come here without learning english. and the comment that the national language of america not being english may be true in the fact that it hasn't been written down but you must be retarded to argue that that isn't a convention.

Well **** .. Only the younger generations in Europe and especially Asia, speaks english... When business men from different countries doesn't know english, they find other ways to communicate. In my opinion every country in the world should learn english to some degree. You can't blame a middle-aged man from Spain/Russia/china/germany (you name it) to speak english, but you should be able to expect it from someone young. At least that's my opinion of it...

Well considering that foreigners who know only their own language are from countries in poverty, it makes complete sense. Inb4 ********* for going against the picture.

I'm American. Learning a new language isn't that difficult. I know a little Spanish, German, and American Sign Language. I don't like when Americans know only one language because it isn't that hard.

That's not true, everyone learns things differently, I am great with math but took two foreign language classes in high school and barely made it through the second one.

To be honest, when a foreigner doesn't know at least enough english to communicate in any way shape or form, I think to myself: ******* dumbass faggot.

I have to disagree because the American education system's standards can be a lot higher, the government is too lazy and greedy to make it so
