The picture is wrong. They both show equality. One is showing to treat everyone equally and the other is showing to make everyone equal.

I'm pretty sure this pic was originally meant to depict difference between capitalism and socialism, if I'm not mistaking.

Which is pretty dumb, because if you had a capitalist view, you would actually consider the possibility of the short man PAYING the tall man for his "good" (in this case, the box)

Nothing should be given for free just because someone is disadvantaged in any way; always think and look for the "win-win" scenario.

inb4 they should have bought some ******* tickets and the picture actually represents a fellony...

Since where do kids get equality? I mean, kids aren't able to vote.
inb4 it's a midget. There's still another kid.

Also you shouldn't peek over a fence for a match you didn't legally get to watch.

Incorrect.

The one side is equality in a very literal sense, the other side isn't justice in any real sense.

The concept of equality is thrown around like it means something that it doesn't. Women for instance for want "equal rights" but believe they should receive special treatment for being women. IE They can hit you but you can't them or its ok for a woman to walk around with her tits / vagina out but not ok for a man to have his balls hanging out. Equality pretty much is never going to exist, because the most vocal group of either side happens to be the most stupid and therefor when law / legislation / social norms come into existence one side is going to lose out. Look at abortion, there are two sides vying for control over the laws, the women say men should have no right to interfere even if they are the father while men believe abortions should either be illegal or forced. The left panel is the essence of true equality in that sense, everyone is given an EQUAL chance, no side receives more than another. The right side shows that others should give their things up so that someone else can be on the same field as they are, which is not equality.
#17 to #4 - anon (02/27/2013) [-]
that's not equal rights. the women who expect special treatment don't want equal rights, the women who want equal rights don't want special treatment, and the ones who want both are hypocrites

That ain't right.

That ******* bastard should just pay for a ticket instead of sneaking..

I dont know if its just me thinking this but you need perspective on this, they are both equality the first one is about having the same amount of boxes and the second is about having the same vantage point you cant combine the two because they arent the same thing.

What about all the people who paid to watch the game?how is it equal or just for them 3 guys to watch the game for free while everyone had to spend their hard earned money?..................Also i hate midgets
#15 - mkaymkay (02/27/2013) [-]
At the end of the day they all lose because they're watching baseball.
User avatar #8 - allamericandude (02/27/2013) [-]
Yeah, this picture is retarded, because you could easily swap the labels and it would still make sense. It's all a matter of perspective. The left one is "justice" for the tall guy, the right one is "justice" for the short guy.

And if you expand your perspective further, it gets even trickier. Who made the boxes? Did the three men pay for the boxes, or did some higher power force the maker to give them the boxes? If it's the latter, that's neither equality nor justice for the box maker.

And what about the people who aren't at the game? Do they get boxes too? If you want equality, you need to give everyone a box, even if some of those people are never going to use them. If you want justice, then you only give boxes to the people who "need" them--but how is that fair to the people who didn't receive a box? Why are all these resources being spent on one particular group over another? Are you racist against tall people or something?

Tl;dr: This picture is an extreme oversimplification.

equality - everyone getting the same assistance with no discrimination
justice - people getting only the assistance necessary to correct any disposition hindering them from becoming an equal to those around them
User avatar #18 to #14 - allamericandude (02/27/2013) [-]
By that definition, equality is inefficient and justice is unfair.
#20 to #18 - giveobamaquarters (02/27/2013) [-]
that's the point of the equality picture.
i don't see what's unfair about the justice definition though. it's not unfair just because people feel self entitled to the same aid others receive. if i see a diabetic student get a snack from a teacher to help regulate their blood sugar, i'm not going to demand a snack just because someone else got one.
User avatar #69 to #20 - allamericandude (02/27/2013) [-]
We keep talking about "equality" and "justice" in terms of the distribution of finite resources, but is that all there is? What about equal rights and opportunity? Those things are infinite, in the sense that everyone can have them (or rather not have them taken away) at no cost to a third party.
#21 to #20 - anon (02/27/2013) [-]
If everyone in the class was forced to give money to the diabetic instead of the diabetic bringing his own money this is what the justice picture suggests.
User avatar #37 - durkadurka (02/27/2013) [-]
Justice is about treating everyone equally under the law. Justice is not about treating people differently; giving to some and taking from others based on some determining factor.

It is not justice to take something from someone to remedy someone else's disadvantage.
User avatar #25 - bothemastaofall (02/27/2013) [-]
Other way around jackass. This example sucks anyway
User avatar #30 to #25 - WtfStrawberries (02/27/2013) [-]
Other way around?
Equality = they all get the same thing, no differences based on discrimination
therefore, regardless if the person is shorter, they get the exact same box as the tallest one.
User avatar #32 to #30 - bothemastaofall (02/27/2013) [-]
Justice is they all have to look over the same bar, and are each given the same tools to do so (the boxes), but must use their natural abilites (height).
It could be viewed both ways, that's why this example sucks.
User avatar #33 to #32 - WtfStrawberries (02/27/2013) [-]

I don't think that is justice. Justice bringing them down town because they are not allowed to watch a baseball game without paying for tickets.
