Very, very dubious. He isn't monitored constantly and it sure wouldn't be the first time a religious person from india has tried to con people, like Sathya Sai Baba for instance.

User avatar #78 to #77 - crazyhindu (02/27/2013) [-]
i guess that makes sense, seeing as how you seem to know about it, is it true that he once used to mock a monk who was legless and had to be carried around, much like how he was until his death
User avatar #38 to #2 - crazyhindu (02/26/2013) [-]
oh yeah im not trying to say he hasn't i genuinely wish to know
User avatar #18 to #2 - beerterror (02/26/2013) [-]
Well from what I've heard, he really has been monitored of some time, about 25 days or so, and he didn't drink, eat, piss or **** . And how about the guy, who vowed to go through life with his arm pointed to the sky? The arm is dead now, but he keeps his promise.
User avatar #21 to #18 - admiralen ONLINE (02/26/2013) [-]
its literally impossible to survive without eating and drinking
User avatar #22 to #21 - beerterror (02/26/2013) [-]
Well there is a medically proven incident of a buddist monk, who, diagnosed with leukemia started to meditate for about a year non-stop. No eating, no drinking from what I've heard. And after a year, leukemia was in deep regress, he's been alive and well for 30 or more years now, back then, they had been giving him 2-3 years in pain. Human mind and body is capable of things one can consider.... unnatural.
User avatar #25 to #22 - SteyrAUG ONLINE (02/26/2013) [-]
Alrighty then, let's look at it from a science point of view.

The first law of thermodynamics:
The sum of the energy into the system is equal to the change of energy of the system.

In the case of the human body operating at steady state (no temperature change) the change in energy in the system is zero.

Therefore, in order to keep his body temperature at 98.6 degrees he has to take in an equivalent amount of calories that his body dispels as heat. Assuming the body needs 2000 calories a day to survive means that the body burns 83.33 calories per hour. That is equivalent to about 100 watts. He would have to be constantly hooked up to a 100 watt power source that his body could harness in order to survive, so unless his body runs differently than every other human's body in the world (like photosynthesis, for example) it is impossible for him to survive without an intake of hydrocarbons.
User avatar #26 to #25 - beerterror (02/26/2013) [-]
I agree, that, basing the diagnosis simply on thermodynamics and biology, it seems impossible. Throwing a needle through a glass window seems impossible too, for an average person, hell - even a skilled martial artist. Yet - some Chinese monk accomplished it.

See, I'm not trying to prove wrong any of what you said (I'm not an expert in biology and physics, but I know the basics) and I totally agree, that any of us would just starve to death trying to meditate for a year. But, there are some facts, and I mean facts, not theories, not hypothesis and legends - facts, that make me think: was XVIII century, Age of Enlightenment (and what followed now, the somehow uncritical approach toward science) right?

I mean, there was a proverb? saying? "Magic is science we do not yet understand". And I think it's right. But when they say about seers (that's the word for those with visions?), about all the weird stuff from magnet-people to those damn monks and shamans from Amazon Delta who described Australia and kangaroos as being "the opposite land", when they didn't even know Spanish... Maybe we should give more scientific - mark my word - scientific attention to those areas.
User avatar #32 to #26 - HarvietheDinkle (02/26/2013) [-]
You haven't actually cited any legit sources that prove the tale about the chinese monk or the guy who meditated.

you just said "some guy"
User avatar #40 to #32 - beerterror (02/26/2013) [-] <------ it seems it's a common feat among them Shaolin guys. <--- forgive me for not giving you the exact moments, I think about leukemia it's there somewhere.

And for that being "legit"... i don't know about the movie. But the monk seem pretty legit :)

If he's surviving without food then somebody could earn a real quick doctorate by figuring out how.

Also, I'm gonna go with the ultimate fact to disprove this one- "People lie"
User avatar #41 to #31 - beerterror (02/26/2013) [-]
"people lie" isn't the best argument against words of traveling journalist, who lived in South America for quite a long time and is describing many conversations with shamans, who, according to him, didn't speak Spanish, nor he spoke their dialects, yet they understood each other. About abstract things, not about bottle of water. It's a Polish traveler, if I find the exact article in English, I'll let you know, all right? :)

Go watch the video ********** . It says he hasn't drank either
#45 to #34 - anon (02/26/2013) [-]
Then the video is an absolute lie. The body does not run on chi or chakra or whatever you want to call it. Adenosine Triphosphate has to be generated, then cleaved, in order to have energy. Without nutrients for cellular respiration, cells could not divide, or perform any functions. All organ systems would shut down. The man would die after about a week.
#46 to #45 - jinkazama (02/26/2013) [-]
I never said it was real. But you said "hurr it says he didn't eat so he drank hurr" when the video said he never drank either

#57 to #27 - deezknuts (02/26/2013) [-]
eaten = drink
drink =/= piss

urine is blood waste product

food and drink are essentially the same thing, they both are sapped of nutrients during digestion, so the remnants become feces
