This means at some time
some doctor thought it would be a good idea to inject aids in a alligator...

it's also a possibility (slightly less probably, but still quite possible) that alligator white blood cells or DNA were studied, and it was simply noticed that they did not have the gene that makes us vulnerable to HIV.

The question is HOW they do it, and can we do it too, without turning into goddamn alligators.

They get SIV, which is what HIV mutated from.

Wow. HUMAN Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) DOESN'T affect ALLIGATORS?
#63 to #57 - justtocomment (02/25/2013) [-]
You dunce. It just says their immune system can fight it off.
You know Armadillos? They can carry and transmit HIV to people. Their immune system doesn't fight it off, but they aren't affected either.

#29 - herpaderpasaur (02/25/2013) [-]
we should try fusing our DNA with theirs to cure AIDS and regenerate limbs no way that could go wrong
User avatar #16 - whyfalsewhy (02/25/2013) [-]
Ours can as well, some people are actually naturally immune to HIV, problem is its a minority percentage.
User avatar #58 to #16 - trollwoopnazi (02/25/2013) [-]
How would you even find this out?
User avatar #73 to #58 - whyfalsewhy (02/26/2013) [-]
There is one case that a man was cured of HIV after he received a bone marrow transplant from someone who was immune to it.

We must begin the harvesting
User avatar #22 - peachypeachh (02/25/2013) [-]
is it because HIV stands for HUMAN!!!! immunodeficiency virus?
#21 - John Cena (02/25/2013) [-]
Their immune system can fight it, because it acts unlike our own. Unlike ours, a croc's white blood cells attach to bacteria and viruses and then EXPLODES, killing itself and the pathogen.

Not much different than saying "tropical plants cannot survive in arctic climates". Dat venue.
#24 - John Cena (02/25/2013) [-]
it is physically impossible for an alligator to get HIV. the virus only affects humans.

User avatar #41 to #40 - thegamerslife (02/25/2013) [-]
That would be awesome, think of the advances we would make just trying to get around that to harness their immunity to HIV.
User avatar #42 to #41 - chuckbillrow (02/25/2013) [-]
if they can stop nanoprobs **** the hiv stuff we would be able to harness that ability to save the federation nay the entire galaxy from the borg
